Xeno goes over people’s complaints about the Final Fantasy XIV combat being slow and clunky and explains why in reality the combat is smooth and hard to master. He also shows how to properly use oGCD (off global cooldown skills) so you don’t clip and mess up your rotation.

I'm still a sprout… at 80, almost through post-ShB… maining Gunbreaker. Played WoW for like 14 years…
Combat in FFXIV is anything but slow. It is extremely engaging, imo… and the rotations while weaving oGCDs and, in my case, mitigations, is incredibly entertaining.
I'm still probably total dogshit compared to high-end FFXIV raiders still, but frig man, combat (and tanking in particular) feels so much nicer and involved. than WoW.
when he said "if you're weaving appropriately…" I heard "if you're weebing appropriately…"
after reaching lvl 70 on gunbreaker i dont think the combat is slow anymore, however all the GCDs and oGCDs do feel rather clunky, like you are playing on 100-200 ping
I knew this from asmon stream, damn you're savage 🤟
Drk started kinda slow when I switched from warrior but after hitting lvl 64-68 when you get key traits/abilities that help with mp regen or blood meter it REALLY picks up and there's almost always an ability for me to use.
So what skill speed recommended if you play, say, Monk and you have a 35ms ping to the NA data center?
dude immaculate break down and explanation of gcds thanks!
I love how a 20min video is a "short" Xeno video, gotta love it.
The combat is only slow early on when you have 5 abilities and nothing else LMAO. People hear that it has a 2.5s GCD, play until level 20, hate it because they expect it to be bad even though they havent learned that high level has lots of weaving.
God bless whatever editor is bringing the good word of Xeno to the masses via these condensed videos.
Before everybody 'oh toxic bald man', Asmongold would react to this 100%
These are great
oh yeah
ff14 dungeon is shit, after defeating level 15 dungeon boss
oh yeah story is ….boring
after boost to 70
oh yeah, combat is too slow
killing stuff during MSQ
problem is leveling up you dont really need to use proper rotations, or knows your class very well. the difficulty will significantly risen after you hit max level and then need to properly know your class to be effective
arent ppl saying its slow at the beginnig/low lvl? cuz it is slow at first but then goes crackhead-type of fast later
Im not to 80 yet, in the 50-70 levels on several jobs. I dont find the combat slow as I enjoy doing more than just 100% button mashing. Getting some oGCD going on SAM and NIN now. Not very many on DRK so far. My main issue has nothing to do with fast or slow and more to do with setting up my keyboard to better fit the combos vs oGCD sections and getting some muscle memory down. Going to need far more keybinds than in WoW / Rift / EQ that I have played in the past. Or Ill be mouse buttoning too much hehe.
"now depending on your ping.."
cries in Australian
Hey Xeno, thanks for the video. Just a suggestion, can you please lower the music volume? It's a little high for your low volume voice.
Thanks alot
I need a guide like this for monk
everything starts slowly until your near climax, then everything gets crazynuts.
I understand your point but i would have to disagree with you and before i say why yes i am someone who reached max level and finished all the hard contant like ultima and savage and even tho i dont do parse run my parse is always around 98%. And every time you say the game is not slow i say compare to what ??? I mean i play alot of mmo and when ever i come back to ffxiv during an expansion or a new raid the first thing i feal is how slow the combat is ( and this feeling only stay for 2 weeks untill i get used to it )compare to the other mmo ( let pick wow in this case since those 2 game always get compare to each other ) yes if you are someone who only play ffxiv the combat is not slow but it very slow for some one who just came from wow and that where most player are coming from right now . And i had to argue with my friend on this subject defending ffxiv saying the same thing you say just because i hate how he bad mouth ffxiv and the more i try to back it with fact the more i relise that ffxiv is indeed slow ….
Let give an example how can we say for sure that ffxiv is slow and you mentioned a great point you said ((( cpm ))) which is one of the thing i researched to prove that my friend is wrong so i picked the fastest classes i can think of like ninja and machinsit and went to ffxivlogs and saw the best player in there to see how much cpm they do but since this is your video ( let pick you xeno for example ) and your avarage cpm in the last raid is 42 …. I understand that cpm get effected by mechanic and other stuff including the player skill that why i only pick people with 100 parse which is still sooo slow . It very very slow compare to wow where some classes pass the 100 cpm which is more than 200% faster . And this the reason people say ffxiv is slow . It because other game is so much faster that it feal so slow when you come from this game
My only issue with Ffxiv right now is that I cant decide which of all the jobs to main !!! Love them almost all…
Technically you want to use manafont on black mage as the first OGCD, since it takes a bit longer to actually get the mana. As to your comment at 11:00
let's be real it's really slow compared to black desert, blade and soul and tera and I play ff14 too.
The sad thing is that the people calling the game slow or clunky wont see this video becaus why would they try to prove themselves wrong. People who say the game is slow have already made up their mind and wont change it and only a very few people do.
You're using max level as the example when the reality is that people who complain about the slow combat are talking about ARR, levels 1-50 (give or take some levels depending on class), and they aren't wrong.
The early game weaves suck ass, and just aren't interesting. Weaving buffs is not as fun as weaving damaging abilities, and there just isn't enough of that early on.
Arcanist is an example of a class that is all about the weaves, and it's a super fun starter class because of it… Then you have Rogue with the most boring ass rotation with super long, visually unimpactful OGCDs with 2 useless abilities that are a waste of space till way later on in the Ninja class.
The early game of FF14 is the problem. It's a 50 level tutorial that treats it's players like toddlers with its mind numbingly simple, and unengaging rotations, and MSQ encounters.
So yes, FF14 DOES have slow combat, YES, it DOES get better… Sooo much better… But should it really take that fucking long for a game to be good?
Hell no.
yes, its clunky
I think slow combat is the perception of new players, as there are not so many OGCDs to use. My lv30 bard friend says he wants to press more buttons. /me laugh loudly in my head
nnnnnnoooo but xiv combat is too slow 2.4 second gcd the game is bad!!
