I like this wholesome side of Pyro, very apt for FFXIV audience, aside from that last bit lol kinna cringe. Keep it up!
But I go shopping on different data centers. Pick your poison on what you want to do, then go to the place you need to go to. Population in mmos is ebb and flow, cross data centers are needed when populations are lower like at the end of an expansion, no so much when there is new content.
AETHER IS GREAT. THE GREATEST. WE'RE GONNA BUILD A WALL AND MAKE DYNAMIS PAY FOR IT. MAKE AETHER GREAT AGAIN.
It did mess up specific communities but for selfish reasons I’m so happy by dc travel. prior to travel, raiding on crystal was rough for me because I play very late degen hours and at a certain time I can’t find anything in PF. After being able to go to aether, I can still do high end raids at super late hours. Also when I do go back to crystal, I don’t feel like the servers are completely dead for other content
Tis the season for complainin.
It's been needless, I'm just sayin. 🤣🤪
Welcome to the attention economy.
Short answer: No
Long answer: The entire game is a community. Let people have fun with each other regardless of data centers
What's undermining FF14 is that the party finder isn't cross-datacenter,
and the duty finder should be as well, especially in regions like Europe where the player population is significantly lower than in NA/JP.
It's clearly feasible to create a massive cross-datacenter instanced server, and they absolutely need to make the decision to finally do it,
It would make duty tagging much faster and drastically increase the number of party finders.
Some people find an excuse to blame or complain about anything.
First, sample sizing is important with these kind of "analysis" videos. If a person is going to go on a random day of the week to see how one DC PF is loaded, compared to another, at least chart a trend over the course of a week, ideally multiple weeks. A single day does not equal the trend. It's like looking at political polling, finding one poll on one issues/candidate you're analyzing, and taking the single poll as gospel. This is why aggregated polling is superior data collection. The same is true for these types of claims: get a wider breath of data before drawing a conclusion.
Next, to make a singular claim as to why X is happening is also poor research methodology. Okay, so let's grant the argument that PF is scant on some DCs. Is it merely because of DC travel, or could there be other contributing factors? Many people have claimed to not like the current content, so is population lower because of that, directly impacting the amount of PFs? What about other title releases? We know 2023 has seen a metric ton of popular titles released (Armored Core 6, Tears of the Kingdom, FFXVI, Baldur's Gate 3, Hogwarts Legacy, etc.). Could people be not in game, prompting lower populations and therefore less PFs? What about comparing results with previous patch cycles in between expansions? It's a tried and true point to make that patch cycles see less population in the game. Regardless of the reason, it's worth comparing numbers here; not to mention comparing PF numbers prior to DC travel.
There are too many holes in the research here to make me take this seriously. Individually, if this person, or others dislike the DC travel, that's fine, but purely anecdotal. One off claims (I hardly consider consensus comments in comment sections to be viable pulse checks either, since viewers are either fans of the creator, or hyper polarized and on the opposite side of the fence).
What if, for PF purposes, all data centers were linked without needing to manually move over, but in-person zones still existed as they are now? And if you are in one of these data-center-wide parties, then you all get "sharded", to put it in WoW terms, into the party leader's server or something?
I have no clue about the logistics of this, but I'm just trying to think of ways for maybe everyone to stay on their home servers and data centers while being able to access the parties. On Crystal Goblin, I only ever see single digit parties forming in PF for basically any category, and I'd like to see some big numbers without having to move somewhere else and leave my homies for however long.
DC travel the only reason i can play on dynamis, but its hugely problematic and creates a very unstable duty finder for sure
Making PF cross DC within regions would fix the issue completely. "Dead" PF servers would be fine again and keeping it within the regions wouldn't have any major PF culture differences
I heard Yoshi mentioned it in a Liveletter once
15 yrs of wow i never remembered anyone. Random grps we cleared then parted ways.
The only people of note were guild members that i raided with.
Now for FF they do need to find a way to expand the player pool for raids and dungeons without having to travel.
Crystal hasnt been too bad. On average roulette takes about 15 min to get a grp at the worst times of day.
It is true in JP DC too. The problem is after the Elemental DC JP-EN drama. JP moved to Mana DC.
Elemental DC has like 7HighEnd duties. Mana is like 50.
The problem is to respectfully join a pf in mana you have to understand Japanese.
There would be issues no matter what Yoshi&co do, make DC travel, don't make DC travel, make DC travel limited etc. No matter what, there would be issues and people screeching that the "game is dying" or whatever. People will be people. Right now there's a content lull and many are bored. When 6.5 hits, the game will be lively again for a few months more, but we're in the end of the xpac, it's expected that many just got pretty much everything they could want out of Endwalker. However, when Dawntrail comes, it'll be Endwalker launch chaos all over again, log in lines of several 1000s in every DC and previous negative videos will disappear.
Data Center Travel really feels like a reminder of both the wonders and pitfalls of globalism
Personally I cant stand all the venue advertisement there needs to be some kind of cap on this its all I see in shout chat and in the PF for that matter, it is completely impossible to start up and hold a conversation in shout chat anymore in the past it was regular occurrence going to a city state and just doing shout on whatever you wanted sometimes it would strike up a conversation other times not so much.
Edit: I went to a venue ONCE just to see what all the hype was about and I genuinely hated it, all the genuine RP got replaced by this? For shame I say!
I don't understand where these claims regarding Dynamis being a toxic cesspool of people come from. I came to Dynamis when it opened up since it has Road to 80 and you get free gil when you get to Lv30 which is a nice way to attract new players (which I was since at that point I've been playing FFXIV for a week basically) in addition to having more plots available for housing. So far I would say that the huge majority of my interactions with Dynamis players have been super positive. Sure every now and then there is that Mentor that is a bit toxic towards sprouts on roulettes but that happens in all DCs so this isn't a Dynamis-exclusive feature. Every time there is people from Dynamis discussing the state of the DC compared to other DCs is that sure, it would be cool if we have a bit more people since queues for Duty Finder can be a bit slow and some duties barely even exist (looking at you Alliance roulettes) and some others don't exist at all (PvP) but most people agree that Dynamis has this very unique "small town" feeling to it. When you go to hunts or FATE trains, it's always the same group of people, probably most people know or have interacted with the "locals" on their specific server and the city they visit more frequently, in general Dynamis has a very wholesome vibe, I've seen people setting up PF groups just to help sprouts going through Alliance raids for their first time so they get to do them chill and watch CS without anyone pushing/rushing them. It seems to me that people that say that Dynamis is a "toxic cesspool" are people that either don't play primaraly on Dynamis (the ones that have an alt here just to have a house) or also mostly hearsay as in "oh a friend of a friend of a friend told me Dynamis is super toxic and you should avoid that DC at all costs". As a Dynamis player the only reason I hop to other DCs is either because I feel like doing PvP, or want to have quick Alliance Raid queues, or something I want to buy is waaay too cheaper on other DCs compared to their price on Dynamis and of course if you want to do Savages on PF but at this point everyone just defaults to Aether anyway so again DC hoping for PF isn't a Dynamis-exclusive problem at all, but the entire thing trying to portray Dynamis as this very particularly toxic DC is such a weird and unwarranted statement.
DC travel simply made the DC's more specialized, Aether is where you go for pugging content, Crystal if you want to RP and what not, Primal for idk.
It hasn't ruined server communities as much as let them go to where things are thriving, as it is free to do and available to everyone.
You know it's bad when OCE has more parties up after reset than some NA DC's.
Releasing DC travel while also dropping a new data center was not a wise choice they made. Dynamis has absolute HORRID que times just for example. Not sure how it is right now but a few months after they released it was still a "more than 30 min" wait just for dailies over there. I'm a Jenova native and Aether has definitely been the "go-to" for both party finder and duty finder activities. I have seen a lot of traveler tags running around; especially lately.
I agree on the "we need party finder and duty finder to be cross DC" take for sure though.
Primal has been dead for months now. It’s sad
The problem is basically low population data center players have trouble finding groups which is why they implemented travel in the first place.
Honestly it’s a good idea if they implemented data center travel into duty finder and party finder basically merging all of it together there would be no more complaints.
Oh yeah and something like a grand exchange for market of all data centers.
Last raid tier there was not a problem filling in party finder on primal until the end of the tier. This raid tier it's nearly impossible to fill in pf. Cross data center pf would solve the problem. I love visiting friend, but I prefer to hang out on my data center and quite a few people I know do as well.
Mind-blowing stuff!
Dc travel ruined hunts for me
What no one is considering is the fact that a lot of people are less motivated to raid due to dc travel. Its not just making it a hassle for non aether people its actually reducing the number of raiders. The affect is exponential too. If just a few people dont feel like dc traveling to raid one day then the pf feels more dead and people will drop off of raiding because they feel like no ones doing it.
Aether pf is NOT 3-4x as busy. Its like matbe 1.5x as busy. At the cost of 0 pfs in all other DCs. People are not raiding because of dc travel. Inconvenience is not to be underestimated.
I transferred from Balmung to Halicarnassus to get a house and lemme tell you it's like going from a bustling, populated city to living in the middle of the goddamn desert.
That looks normal (and better) than Materia! 😛 (Aussies please leave Japan and come home)
The only reason that makes me go to Aether is raiding. Everything else, I do on Primal. FC chat, retainers, island, my linkshells, friends, my house, my FC house, FC buffs. This is kinda urgent, it's sucks so bad not having the perks on Aether. The only thing that I can see that will fix this issue is a cross DC PF. I don't think DC travel was a mistake, BUT they kinda dig other issues that weren't so obvious in the past years, like not having a cross DC PF/DF.
Does cross word damage the server community, TLDR yes.
You can't have 'Primal raiding culture' clashing with the 'Crystal raiding culture' if NEITHER DC HAS ANY RAIDING! The 'culture' is already dead, now stop making me give up my fc, house, and retainers whenever I want to raid.
Server communities died when they added cross world party finder. In Heavenward if you need a static you would have to recruit in your own server. This led to things like raiding FCs and communities where everyone knew everyone. Everyone even had to gather in the Hinterlands to enter Alexander. It sucked we had to do that, but it did create a sense of community. The game has never felt the same to me since cross world party finder
Cross dc pf would be fire!
I have a strong FC presence and a house on Primal Excal – I only go to Aether for Savage Raiding when I wanna practice in PF or if my static needs a fill. If DF or PF where cross Data Center, I would leave Primal a lot less. I think that will be an overall benefit to congestion of the game on more popular worlds like those on Aether.
As a Aether player, its funny joining a group, to see the 7 other people with the <Traveler> tag on them.
FFXIV community : "Is Data Center Travel destroying FFXIV server communities?"
Me : "What'chu talking about? It's already dead."
I mean, for real. Server community in MMORPGs is pointless. Because all they do is cook drama and feuds between people. I've seen this in many MMORPGs, and I would be glad to see FFXIV rid of that. But DC travel is a tad tricky, because different regions incorporates different cultures. As someone whom plays on JP Elemental, it's not easy to adapt when JP communities had their way of doing things while EN communities had their own. The recent drama in JP-EN has shown that JP communities were sidelining EN players thanks to some EN black sheeps whom couldn't communicate in japanese and doing disrespectful acts such as leaving parties out of whims. I've tested using the japanese client myself, and the main reason for such discord is because JP client DOES NOT have japanese-english auto translator, while there is one for english-japanese. Hence in Elemental Duty Finders, english speaking players are often subjected to seeing JP players greet with "よろしくお願いします" while we type "Let's do it!" in the auto translate, which JP players sees the same words from EN players.
NA and EU data center probably could have one, but I don't that possibility for JP data center with others. I blame that on Square Enix for not giving South East Asia the support for english speaking fans(even for their other FF titles too). Oceanic server was a mistake, and even some oceanic players are moving over to JP Elemental for better latency from their own region.
for NA, raid is on aether, pvp on primal, and erp on crystal, dynamis just bunch of homeless people that transfer to
Good thing I joined Aether back when ARR first released so I don't have to travel to the best DC. ;p
There's plenty of gluck gluck roleplay on Aether nowadays. Trust and believe that!
Cross-datacenter party finder and duty finder would be AWESOME. I could stay on Dynamis and do my damn Roulettes from the comfort of my own island. But as it is now, either I travel to do my roulettes or I spend an hour or more waiting on a pop that doesn't happen.
Dynamis, because of this, has started using Party Finder for just about everything in a way that the other DCs might not. I dunno, haven't checked them when I travel for roulettes.
Right now there are less people getting on due to getting close to the end of the expansion patches. Which seems to affect Crystal more. DC travel hasn't helped.
I don't think DC travel is to blame for population drops. It's pretty late in the expansion so by this time a lot players have lost interest, are moving on to do other things until new content drops. There's also been a lot of great games this year, which maybe pulling people are. If there is any problem with the game that is making this worse, It's that content for this expansion is more shallow than previous ones.
There just is not a lot of things to chase. Take the relic quest for example. Love or hate those old grind that kept players around and invested to make them. There's no Bozja/Eureka zones things expansion, which again maybe some people disliked but it kept players around. No Ishgard restoration content and crafting is pretty easy these days. Deep Dungeons are fucking boring and the new one doesn't really add anything interesting. Variant/Criterion also seem like it has potential but again nothing to chase to keep doing it for long time. Last raiding has always been a minority group in XIV, and EW raids aren't as good and previous raids. There really just not a lot to do outside of daily chores.
