I Was Forced To Do Optional Dungeons In FFXIV

So in an effort to show me all the great things that FFXIV has to offer, Galactic has offered to take me to some of the optional dungeons available in post A Realm Reborn. The Dungeons that we visit today all are fun but do not always go as planned.

  1. For vigil hard, the adds will often swarm the players, forcing them to either step away form the canons to deal with that, or rely on the other players to use their canons to keep them off.

You either got very lucky, or, more likely, the other players just knew this fight really well and were killing the ads before they could bother anyone.

My first experience with this fight went like this, but I've sense done with with 3 newbies a couple of times, and we always wipe a few times until I can teach them what to do.

A newbie with 3 vets on the other hand, it's going to be so easy, you get the wrong idea about how easy the fight actually is.

  2. With the Roulette system, for dungeons, it's divided into Main Scenario Dugeons (Praetorium/Castrum/Porta (Ultima Weapon)), Leveling (all dungeons not at an expansion's max level) and Level 50/60/etc. dungeons. You get Tomestones from these, which you can trade for the current best or second best level of gear, and can do one Roulette/Day for the most tomestones. You can also get Poetic Tomestones, which you use for any gear that's not max-level gear, from the roulettes. Most of these hard-mode dungeons are optional and fall into the 50/60/etc. category along with the patch dungeons for each expansion.

  3. Lots of these dungeons exist because of the relic weapons so if you were interested in getting them you would have been sent down this path anyway but it's always good to increase your options for roulette 😀

  4. Actually, the hard monikers for duties get dropped later on. And it's best to call them duties, considering that the term dungeon becomes nebulous once you advance even further through the story.

  5. All of the optional dungeons unrelated to story in ARR could disappear and the game would probably be better off. But welcome to how all the dungeons in ARR were before all the MSQ ones were reworked for NPCs.

  6. I've been trying to do Palace of the Dead solo for AGES. I think the farthest I've gotten is in the 80's so far. I just got to floor 62 before getting killed by a trapped chest and had to restart.

And I just did a bunch of runs of Stone Vigil (hard) just to get that shield the second boss uses as a Blue Mage spell.

  7. I miss older dungeons when the boss had some other mechanics. The Dungeons becomes too easy unless you play them synced. I wish they have an option to queue synced (not on pre formed party)

  8. I really like Hullbreaker Isle for the lore stuff with Mistbeard. I also like how after you beat it you can play your WoL as the most dense dumbass ever and have them not put the pieces together that Merlwyb's second in command is Mistbeard, which gets a funny reaction out of another NPC when he realizes how dumb you are

  9. Every expanaion has some optional dungeons, alas the further you go thr fewer there are. Enjoy your buffet now and have fun with the odd mechanics theyre not going to smooth out of msq duties

  10. Palace of the Dead isn’t about playing perfect. It’s also about being lucky for a 200 gauntlet of a randomly generated dungeon. Every 10 floors is a checkpoint and it’s quite the journey. I recommend bringing a static party with you first and doing the 200 floors with them before doing it solo. Get a feel for it before throwing yourself at the lions den. Also PotD isn’t the only dungeon like this. There is Heaven on High and Eureka Orthos. They too have solo only achievements and titles but these are 100 floors instead.

  12. You remind me of my older brother: he has a really good ear for music and our parents encouraged him to play the violin, he was quite talented. But like you, as soon as anyone would nudge him into any direction, he would grow cold and stiff and wouldnt budge. Needless to say, he didnt continue anything music-related, despite the fact his girl friend is a musician.

Maybe do something you really want to do, for your own sake and not to spite others.

  13. 11:47 if it makes you feel better about it, a lot of the sprout experience in the harder side content is the sprout essentially being carried. Someday when you loose your sprout icon you'll be able to do the same for someone else who is new 😀

  14. Most content is really amazing in ffxiv…until you've done it 100-200+ times but I feel like any content in any game gets a little old after that many iterations unless you're doing challenge runs or speedrunning etc

  15. Heh love the shout out to CiderSpider, his content is so great. I love how they do dungeons in FFXIV, yes they can get repetitive, but it's really a anything goes in roulettes since every dungeon is still relevant! (sometimes the scale downs hurt though lol)
