I LOVE the Golden Saucer in FFXIV (because I don't play it)

FFXIV is the first MMO I’ve ever played that didn’t make me feel like I HAD TO do a system/task that I don’t want to do in order to do the content that I DO want to do and what a breath of fresh air that is.

TIMESTAMPS:
0:00 JUST LET ME MSQ!
0:59 is that kirby on the wall!?
2:12 forced tasks in WoW Shadowlands
3:09 “forced” tasks in OSRS
4:03 FFXIV obliterates FOMO
4:45 Accountability is for jobs and chores
6:50 FFXIV, a breath of fresh air

  1. Great way of describing FOMO and just how prevalent it is in game design.

Doing MSQ, Job Quests, and unlocking Blue + quests as you go is a great way to progress the game. Unlocking Blue + Quests gives you extra features and dungeons you can engage with as you play .

  2. the only things that you need to do if interested in cosmetics and storys that change yearly is events like crossovers and holidays such as chrismas or valantines days. though you can get old rewards in the cash shops instead.

  3. When I have MSQ to do that is ALL I do. With Endwalker done, and still 2 weeks to go for 6.1, I'm leveling different classes to get the class quests, finishing beast tribes, getting my crafters to 90, but that will all go on the back burner once the new story quests come. The variety of things to do and the lack of requirement to do them makes me adore this game.
I've been playing since the first beta for 2.0 and I cannot say enough good things about it.

  5. You're absolutely right to play how you want to play, but your friends are right too. It's good to take a minute and look around. If you wait until you're "all caught up" to see what's out there, you risk getting seriously overwhelmed. I recommend taking that minute at the end of each expack, you know, when you unlock all the new stuff AND you're at a good breakpoint. There's no need to do a deep dive into everything, but 5 expansions worth of content where NONE of it becomes obsolete adds up.

Decided to expand on this a lil'bit.

Daily tribe quests for example are a good bit of side content to start on before you finish the msq. There were 5 factions in ARR and 3 in each expack with the Endwalker ones starting to drop in 6.1. You can only do 12 of these per day(3 per tribe with exceptions I'm not getting into here) and there are currently 14(+1) in the game and they each take roughly 8 weeks to finish. It would only take me about half an hour to do my 12 each day and depending on how long it takes you to get thru the MSQ, you could finish some before you finish the MSQ making that total number smaller. They're also great for alts, so doing them on another job can be an efficient use of time, especially if you find one you like to play.

  6. Fun fact we didn't have blues quest marker at launch just slightly differently golden quest markers. I would often find myself off msq a lot.

I have used side quest to lv 2nd main or job I don't enjoy with side quest especially if share gear with main/2nd class.

  7. Ffxiv content is almost all optional even later, hidden normal trial, some raid is not really affect story MSQ. But you get really nice reward (gear, story, mount, glam, etc) for finishing it.

  8. For me I like doing everything from fishing, crafting, exploring housing district, and being addicted to gambling lol. Also lots of raiding Coils and Primals. Really enjoyed just doing whatever I feel like and it's all super casual don't need to spend a week prepping for nothing.

  9. Ah. I have little different approach: i treat every patch like things i like to check off the list, so i feel i eat every next expansion without things left undone. Theres something satisfying about having clean plate before starting another ^^
To me, that is. Everyone consumes game differently!

  10. I pick up every blue quest – I think they're called Feature Quests? – because the vast majority are for unlocking dungeons or trials and going back to get them later seems tedious even if I don't want to do them immediately. Though I've only really done Gold Saucer content during queue times, and it's honestly great for that.

  11. It's fine to leave the Golden Sauces for later.
But because you unlocked it, now you can get the Triple Triad cards as drops and working toward one of the hardest mounts in the game.
By the way it's fine not to live in the Saucer, but look up and do the Fashion Report once a week. You literally show up, your outfit get judger and you get points that can buy cool cosmetics and mounts.

  12. FFXIV has some interesting extra content such as Deep dungeons, End game zones with their own story (eureka bozka), The gold saucer, Beast tribe rep grinds to name a few things off the top of my head. None of these things are mandatory or were mandatory in the past to progress your characters gear or in raids at end game. The rewards are mostly cosmetics, mounts, minions and titles/achievements and the fun of doing the content itself.

  14. The only FOMO in XIV is seasonal events. Most of them take all of 15-20 minutes to do and give you a cute, unique story that is one and done – gone forever. Usually. They've brought back the ones that were crossovers with other games a few times, but the ones inherent to XIV only tend to be mult-year, ongoing sagas with their own unique cast of characters. So take a few minutes to do Hatchingtide when it comes out – sure, the reward is only cosmetics, but they're cosmetics that won't be available for free every again. (Seasonal event prizes get put up on the cash shop one year later.)
