I Have Chosen My Main Job For Heavensward – FFXIV

So I have been discussing quite a bit of what job I would play in Heavensward and after some deliberation I have decided what I will play. This is my Journey playing through the initial steps to unlock the class.

  1. It makes me so happy to see you're enjoying FF14. Your content is basically helping me get through a small hiatus I'm taking from the game. I'm just burnt out on the current content, so I'm waiting until Dawntrail to resub. It kind of sucks, but I'd rather not force myself and lose the joy.

  2. I played Monk in ARR, Ninja in HW, and then when Stormblood released I changed to Samurai and stayed with it until Endwalker, when I went back to Monk. I enjoyed the symmetry of closing the story out on the same job I started it with.

  3. Dragoon takes some time to really get going, but it really kicks into high gear at higher levels, with lots of off-global cooldowns and high octane burst windows.

… At lower levels its a little dull 😅

  4. Yeah, leveling Lancer to eventually get to Dragoon is rough and one of the main reasons I haven't jumped into the class yet.

The later expansions at least let you start the newer jobs at a higher level and a complete rotation.

  5. Uhh are you sure about that? CBU3's class reworks are sometimes pruning a bonsai tree with a chainsaw. See summoner, the tanks, machinist and the healers. It may play somewhat like it did before the rework and be good (Ninja/Monk). But it's best to not get attached to a class that may no longer exist come 7.0.

  6. Bit of a shame that doing the dark knight quests is delayed, but fair, figures if you try something new it'd be in a different role.

That said, I'd like to point out that you needn't worry about "changing it up". most of the jobs change significantly across one expansion's worth of skills; warrior at 70 is a completely different beast to warrior at 50, so you most absolutely can enjoy the story while sticking to one "main" job.

Though, it is generally reccomended to try out all the roles, as knowing the gameplay needs of each first-hand makes you better at coordinating with the team.

  7. I play all the jobs, cos there's times when I feel like playing any of them. What surprised me was I learned that apparently it isn't common across mmos to allow people to have multiple jobs on one character. So, I guess its a weird thing for FFXIV, but a huge pro. You can play all the jobs if you want, or just one if you want. But I do recommend playing several, especially before you get to endwalker since there's payoff (even if small, I still absolutely lost my mind with joy anyway) in endwalker. Endwalker rewards doing a lot of side content at a couple points, and I deeply appreciate it doing that.

  8. the good thing about the job system is that having one very high leveled job, every job thats lower than it gets an XP boost, along with the hunting log, its not very hard to play catch up to your highest leveled job. of course the hunting log only is in ARR where it was replaced with "The Hunt" which is a repeatable version of it with daily one to three star ranked mobs which ended up being a good upgrade, because the Hunting Log is finite while The Hunt isnt.

  9. You may have been told this many times already, or even already figured it out, but there is an option to auto-skip cutscenes you have already watched. This skips the dungeon intro and final boss cutscenes when you replay a dungeon.

  10. one of us, one of us — after I've gotten disappointed with the SMN, I main DRG as physical DPS and never looked back. I tried other jobs and here's my pick: Phs.DPS – DGN, Mag.DPS – RDM, Tank – DRK, Heal – SCH. I have my DGN, RDM, and SCH maxed — I'm currently working on getting my DRK maxed. I have my PLD maxed, but I don't like the recent changes they made to the job, so I'm switching to DRK.

  11. I played as dragoon for almost the entirety of Heavensward. It just felt so right, given what goes on in that expansion and what we fight. Although after a very specific moment, other players may get what I'm alluding to, I chose to swap to dark knight for the remainder of the expansion. Although then after clearing Heavensward proper I swapped back to dragoon for the patch quests. Currently I'm at the very first quest in the Stormblood MSQ, and I'm still trying to decide which class I wanna main for it, being tied between monk, samurai, and red mage.

  12. My alt is also doing a wol job walkthrough (need to finish every expansion with main jobs at level cap) but I started as a lancer! So working on warrior, then bard. I also have some extra thematic requirements too, but that’s the main jist of it

  13. Dragoon is SUCH a good job thematically for Heavensward, and the job quests introduce you to a lot of really important concepts! On my second character I've been levelling everything and doing the DRG quests make the main story even better. Honestly I second the suggestion of playing the 'official' jobs for each expansion, it's a fun way to play and gets you used to every role but Healer.

Edit: Probably said this before, but I am loving watching you fall in love with this game from a completely different perspective to my own journey. This game has such a great community that's welcomed me and you and many others in with open arms and good advice. It's glorious.

  14. I hope this has nothing to do with the usual peer pressure people give streamers to play through HW as Dragoon.

Like once we see you go through Stormblood as Samurai or Monk, I'll get suspicious.

  15. I slowly started playing FFXIV again (still not in Heavensward yet lol). But I still go back to gw2 every week because I still love that game and it's my main game to play.

  16. I tell you, having dragoon leveled for my first alt’s run through Heavensward made for a very special time
Being recognized alongside Estinien as “the second Azure Dragoon” and all

  17. ARR guild masters don’t care how many gods you slay, legions you fight or how many times you save the realm. YOU BETTER GO OUT AND KILL THOSE LADYBUGS!
