This week in Final Fantasy XIV we pick up where we left off last week with more Aloalo Island. We’re on a mission to map the entire place and find every route in this latest Variant Dungeon.

  1. On dodos: You're horribly mistaken about them. Long story: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YXVLPqY1FrY

Short story: Dodos were the Apex Predator on their island and nothing could kill them, so they grew so large they couldn't fly because they didn't have to. When humans arrived, they had no instincts to fear humans, because for millions of years nothing could kill them, which is why people could just pick them up. And then they went extinct because Monkeys and Dogs were introduced to the island, and because evolution taught them they were safe, they weren't able to fend them off. This is how most species go extinct, something not from their area is brought in and kills everything because they aren't evolved against it, so it isn't even special to Dodos.

  2. I feel that when soloing variant dungeons, they only really shine when you're actually solving them at the same time. If you're just following a guide then yeah that definitely breaks any of the mental engagement of looking for paths and puzzling things out.

  3. A couple of notes. I swear in a past video, you sported that hairstyle. Yet I noticed it didn't have a checkmark on it saying you owned it already.

As for the lizard. Keep it out for a bit and you'll see why it has the bow. It is of course a chameleon so it'll just go invisible except the bow for a few seconds at random.

  4. The Aloalo chests actually have six furnishing items, a parasol, and two minions, but the drop rate for any non-prism item is so comically insanely low. The minions aren't even good but they go for a few hundred thousand gil on the markets just for being rare. I know it's the Criterion dungeons that get all the rewards discourse, but the base variants are pretty awful, it's the only content in the game where the rewards would unironically be better if chests dropped materia sometimes, just for the variety.

  5. Hello, local morbol obsessed person here: If you count all the standard morbols and the variant models, it's basically four. You got standard, one with the bulbs, the little floating ones and the big morbol towers. I would love a couple more variants but that is just me and my crazy morbol love~
