  1. The first story, A Realm Reborn, is kinda slow. The expansions are so much better plot-wise.

That's not to say ARR is bad, it's just that the others are way better.

  2. I jut got into the game a few months ago, and it is just…. so damn good! Really hope you do stream more of it, at least once you get towards the end of ARR and into the expansions!

  4. FYI if you decide to do any more mmo's, guild wars 2 and the old republic are voice acted (might be others, but those are the ones I'm familiar with… Personally I like to play a norn male in gw2 so that my voice is Matt Mercer)

  5. Oof the early game voice acting. That gets better every patch and expac. Off chance that you see this I recommend taking a day to play with the settings and the ui. Get your menu sizes, font sizes, and hot bars worked out. This game has a staggering amount of content and the best way to learn is to fumble through it and fail a few times. Barring that jocat has good intro guides to all three roles that will help get your priorities straight.

  6. dude this is awesome. you started out with the same race and class i did. you are in for one heck of a long and wonderful journey, and you came in at a great time! They recently trimmed and updated A Realm Reborn content so it's more stream lined

  7. "You'd LIKE that, wouldn't you?" ;p

Something the game doesn't tell you – when NPCs move around, they have more to say. The story gives back everything you put into it, so don't skip!

  8. This game is easily misunderstood, because it's an MMORPG. So you likely have some prejudice what that means. But that is all wrong. It is not like your typical MMO. FFXIV is actually a series of five single player RPGs inside an MMO as a frame around it. And yes, I mean that each of the expansions is its own Final Fantasy single player story both in spirit and in length. A Realm Reborn (ARR) is the one that still feels the most MMO-like. Introducing gameplay mechanics, visiting the most important towns and doing tasks for them, unlocking dungeons and trials, etc. But from Heavensward on they concentrate on single player stories which are also paced like single player stories with way more cutscenes and voice acting. And they are about as long as any other single player Final Fantasy, introducing new places, characters and have their own themes, music and stories. (And yes, that means while FF-fans, like myself, have been waiting for a good single player FF these past ten years, they were actually releasing a great one every second year, but inside their online game.)

So don't treat this game like a multiplayer game and say that you're maybe going to play it off-stream. Treat it like a single-player story focused game (which it is) and react to the story on-stream. People will eat it up. As I said, ARR is still the one most MMO-like. So maybe you can skip over most of that. I DON'T mean to literally skip the cutscenes or buy a boost or something. You will miss important world-building, character-introductions and most of all the later patch-stories. I mean you can click away what doesn't seem too important to you and just concentrate on anything that is an actual cutscene. But if you take your time and read everything, there is a lot to enjoy here too. It just isn't what people mean if they are speaking about what's so great about FFXIV.

At the latest start recording your reactions and stream the story from patch 2.55. Because from there the story suddenly gets really good. 2.0 is base FFXIV. MSQ progresses from lvl 1-50 here and it ends with a big last dungeon and boss fight heading into a long cutscene with credits at the end. But before the game goes to Heavensward, there are these patch "episodes". At first, they may seem boring, but they are actually way better than the base game in terms of story. It's just a bit of a drag because there is no level progress (it's all lvl 50) and they introduce a whole lot of stuff you don't understand yet. It all seems very political at first. In top of that patch 2.1 (moogle story) starts very slow with not so important stuff, almost no voice acting and people tend to think that is how all these patch episodes are going to be. But from 2.2 (Leviathan story) you will notice that the amount of voiced cutscenes drastically increases. So stick with it and I promise you that it will all be worth it when you hit a certain MSQ called "A Parting Glass". I promise you that this will be the best moment you had with Final Fantasy since… I don't know… the 90s?

Edit: Deactivate other player names unless they are your friends or in your FC. There are settings for these kinds of things. It'll greatly improve your screen in cities. In general the whole UI of FFXIV is so extremely customizable, that you can make it extremely minimalistic and not clutter your screen so much. There are some elements like the enemy-list and the party list that you will only see in duties or battle-situations, which you can also exploit to have all the important information while in battle and have a clean UI outside of battle. And you can play the game on a gamepad just as good as on keyboard and mouse. You don't need to play this like any other MMO.

  9. Congratulations on your first step to your massive addiction. And possibly glam/fantasia addiction. But unlike some MMOs, this one will be giving your money's worth (including the infamous free trial content).

  10. I won't deny it, the beggining is kind of stale, but it pays off immensely! This game keeps on giving.
Very glad you even managed to get into the game after the fail of the first stream XD And yah, pc is the way. I got pretty much 3 skill bars full of things, only the combat things, can't even begin to imagine the nightmare that'd be on controller…
