  1. Pretty much each zone the fish want a different type of bait. But recently they did add something called a versatile lure to the game. You buy one of those and it works pretty much everywhere. I assume it's not as effective for catching specific fish you may want but it does beats having an entire bag full of baits!

  2. You can always see if the extra fish you bought sell on the market board or that might be a good time to start being a culinarian! 😆 Use them fishies to make food. Or if you're able to desynthesize, you can do that to the fish to get some sand (which is garbage) and some water crystals

  3. Thank you Albs for the hilarious content. Just a FYI miner/botanist/fisher all share the same gear so to save some armory space level them up together. Also ocean fishing is amazing and getting a little update tomorrow in 5.5 patch

  4. People seem to have much… nicer… reactions to fishing in FFXIV than I did, but nonetheless I am grateful to them all. Were it not for their efforts, I would have had to do my own fishing when I leveled the class.

  7. Heavily recommend you try Ocean Fishing! even more tomorrow since it's getting a hefty fun update, you can do it once every 2 hours when the boat comes out near the Arcanist guild.

  8. Since you are already branching out, may I suggest joining the lancer and the rogue guild as well? The patch cycle will introduce a character that will be more interesting if you are a ninja (rogue's job). and the Heavensward story makes far less sense if you didn't do the job quests for dragoon (lancer after 30).

  9. With gatherer professions, your two main stats are Gathering and Perception. Perception influences your ability to find higher quality items. Gathering is your ability to actually gather them. As you get to higher levels, fishing becomes trickier. There are some fish that are easier to find depending on weather and time of day, and some require Advanced skills you unlock later, like mooching.

A really good website for reference if you get stuck is "Cat Became Hungry." It's basically a database of fish for FFXIV and the best methods for catching them.

  10. one thing that people might recommend is that, when leveling gathering/crafting class, do them all that the same time. They share gears, use same skills (with exception of fisher among gatherers), and often use material made by other classes. For example, fisher's catches are mainly used as material for culinarian and alchemist, and leatherworking and weaving sometimes use each other's product as material for another.

As for stat, gatherers need gathering (increase chance of success, too low mean fish can get away with your bait), perception (increase chance of high quality), and GP (need to use skill, which you will get as you level up). as you level up you will unlock skill that help manipulate these chances.

  11. Most mmo fishing: click the spot, get a thing. Some mmo fishing: timegated and/or microtransactioned to hell. Final fantasy 14 fishing: actual fishing, and a real time fishing charter for good measure.

  12. Check out glam dressers in your inn rooms (any inn in the major cities) to make glamour plates if you want to reuse a look as many times as you want 🙂 Especially handy for you I think, since your glamour items are just level 1 items that can be applied over anything
