Maybe im just slow, but I've honestly never felt the speed stats did much of anything.
No matter how much i raise those stats, my cooldowns dont get noticeably shorter.
And to add to the Heavensward take, it brought the Diadem, butnit was so bad itnwas removed, brought back, and removed again.
Now, whenever people talk about adventure forays, they say ita like 'Eureka'. Even Square acts like that stuff started in Stormblood, when in reality, it started in Heavensward with the Diadem, but we dont talk about it because of how bad it was.
And people have the gall to say Endwalker was the worst expansion?
What's worse: Not having a foray or having one so bad it was removed twice and brought back completely rehashed 2 expansions later?
skill speed I disagree with, monk absolutely relies on it and it makes it insanely fun, buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuut I do think they should atleast tone down skill/spell speed, especially when monk at 70 feels like complete shit compared to shadowbringers lvl 76 (because you get the last skill speed increase which makes it a class I can genuinely have fun with without having to worry about my timers much)
Heavensward, like base Heavensward? bad, straight up, none of it felt impactful, and it took too long to be good imo, post heavensward aka Dragonsong War is great, post dragonsong is fine.
In summary, Post Heavensward is better than Base Heavensward, that's it.
Zenos is fine, I understand why he couldn't appear in Shadowbringers since it'd be weird if he just, popped up outta nowhere in the first like "hey what's up baby girl, haha" and to be honest, shadowbringers does make up for that in general. Endwalker I loved fighting him but I wish it was replayable, same with other instanced fights tbh, I don't understand why he just popped up in endwalker though all of a sudden.
The rest? Yea I got no stance on the other two lol
I disagree with the SkS part as that can differ per player on how it feels vs optimal. I more so dislike SkS synced in old content making it feel horrible. The DPS meters idc for as its there to be used for self improvement. I been parse shamed before even before I knew anything about parsing by Dice themself… Toxic parsers/raiders are a very small minority of XIV's community and whil its toxicity can be at its most Extreme here? it's not prevalent enough. Consistent (Casual)toxicity however comes from Casual players and Mentors in my personal experience playing this game.
Most adorablest lala
While skill speed and spell speed for some jobs can be a choice others it is a mess. The worse being DRK becuase its single target is skill but aeo is spell. So while in top meta this is not important it is really silly to see that the GCD of you stingle target is different then the AOE. No other tank has this issue.
My man I agree with the heavenward being overrated. For sks… Eeeh it or miss for me…. I do miss my meme build with ninja having all the skill speed with the arrow card… Aaah so fun. Did jack for damage but man did you go faster than a ogd. Oh and fflogs…. It ruined the last raid tier all because I wanted to play the job i love playing with the most experience.. @#$& you pf! Ninja a solid job!?!
Pretty largely agree with all of these, and even the one case that I don't fully agree with I see the problems in, and that's speed. Skill speed is just plain useless. It doesn't need to exist as it benefits no classes in the game in any meaningful way. If anything, as you say, it's an active detriment to the way many classes function. However, spell speed I will disagree on slightly. That one at least has the potential to have a meaningful purpose in the game given that casters and healers have, well, cast times in many cases. Thus, spell speed could, and I would argue should exist as a viable potential option for casters/healers to change up their approach to their classes that gives them a meaningful choice – aim for more casts with potentially fewer crits or somewhat smaller base numbers per cast, or aim for fewer casts with bigger damage/healing totals.
Problem is the system doesn't work that way right now. As it stands currently, spell speed is only useful to Black Mage. Now I'll fully admit, as a Black Mage main I love stacking spell speed. It feels fun and satisfying to me to get off those extra chain casts and bathe my enemies in yet more and more copious amounts of fire! (I would like to note that the ongoing arson investigations across Eorzea have found no evidence which directly ties me to these events. You have no proofs!) But the system as it stands now is broken because of the strange way it affects GCDs. For a class like Black Mage that can largely act on its own with little worry about how its abilities impact the rest of the party, the system working as-is is perfectly fine. For everyone else, though, it doesn't work well, and the general design philosophy actively makes any kind of speed a detriment to players in many cases.
Thing is, I'm not really sure what kind of fix would need to be implemented to rectify this. Skill speed should probably just be axed from the game all together, but spell speed is a trickier case because of the unique way it interacts with Black Mage specifically. Maybe they could have it only affect the GCD in the case of spells with cast timers, and then Black Mage could get a class specific passive that allows spell speed to affect all their GCDs or something, but that feels like it would probably be a difficult solution to implement so I don't know. I'd like to think there's some sort of reasonable solution out there which doesn't involve completely axing both stats, especially in the case of Black Mage since boosting spell speed has been part of its kit since Heavensward via Ley Lines and it would feel terrible to lose that aspect of it, but I don't know what that solution would be.
Good video as always I actually agree with all the takes ask for the last one – I do think meters and logs are something to be wary about. While I don't use them myself, I think the real fortunate thing is how Square balances jobs is so balanced that it ultimately doesn't matter what you play as.
Most you could say is the max sweaty cheese build is like staking warriors, dancers, summoners and some red mages together. Good news is high end content requires so much technical execution simply showing up as the job won't get the job done.. or I should say won't carry you as much as in WoW.
As a former WoW player myself I think we all see the red flags and know what kind of gamer things like DPS meters and ff Logs creates. So it's important to be mindful about it. If groups do toxic shit like filter people out on Logs, more than likely some Shadowlands era WoWfugees who bring their bad practices here. I already noticed a shift towards more concern about doing Savages and Ultimates more so than ever before this expansion or wanting some eternal grind where your never finished to stay logged in. (while obviously I agree Relics should be a grind, not an eternal one, should be one I set my mind to it and complete it.)
I think however with Savages being more difficult than Extremes by a significant margin and ultimate's being in a league even beyond that sort of squashed that "đheh. Real game is at end game kid M+69" cuz trying to do a Savage raid half heartedly is a sledge hammer to the balls, and a Ultimate is like putting your balls in a blender.
Here's another hot take for you; they should get rid of rear and flanking mechanics.
And before the melee DPS players set me alight, here me out. Once upon a time, using flanking and rear based attacks was a goodd mechanic. Think ARR.
Now that fights have more movement and complication to them, this awful mechanic needs to go. I know, I know, some of you feel like you're striking a dummy if you don't move around. But if the mechanic is gone, what's stopping you from moving as you see fit? đ€
I'm new to FF14 but non of these Sound like hottakes exept for the Story / Expansions based ones
I like skillspeed I just wish it scaled a little better for ninja
What the hell is the deal with those subtitles, I hate them so much,
That "hot take" on parses, FFLogs, and DPS meters is nothing but air-tight facts. THe amount of CASUAL and Midcore statics throwing up recuitment posts on community discords, demanding a bare minimum of purples is completely insane to me. Ultimates, fine…I guess. Not really, but it's more understandable. But savage? Cmon… It's ludicrous that there are little to no outlets for people to get into endgame content – especially for healers. You can be a perfectly rounded, team player with the best attitude, but if you don't have purples and oranges (even as a healer) you're going to be turned down. I miss the days where I was seen as more than a number on an unofficial website…
6k hours in the game, my hot take is that the msq is boring
if u dont want sks just dont equip gear with sks or meld sks, avoiding sks gear pieces is like 90% of the thought process behind pld bis, sks is ever really only a problem when there isnt a gear piece at a specific ilvl without sks, like right now with the 660 fending ring having sks so we use the 660 tome ring and the 650 tome ring. i do think sks and sps should just be merged into the same stat, but completely removing them makes some jobs way worse, like gnb at 2.5 with 2 cart burst is way more painful than having to reverse drift gnashing fang every few mins
also fflogs and parsing is never going to become a bigger issue as long as SE keeps actively discouraging it, the only groups that exclude certain jobs are parsing groups and thats actually only because of the 2 min meta. and parsing is so dead anyway that theres no real threat of anything. if u want an actual problem look at dsr/top groups requiring lil cuzzy on the mic in pf, thats something that can easily spread
hw is overrated tho literally who tf is haurchefant dont care didnt ask
