  1. I used to do a lot of Casual Battlegrounds – sometimes you would win, sometimes you would lose but either way you earned some Honor so you felt like you were making progress. And then in Legion they started dropping those certificates – which I never seemed to get, even when I won. It became pointless and I stopped.

  2. It's simple. iLvl increased every even patch. Tomestones gear is 10 ilvl less than Savage raid gear. In the next patch (which would be an odd patch), tomestones gear can be upgraded to the same ilvl as Savage raid gear by doing 24-man raid.

  3. You only get the currency reward for an individual dungeon once. The 2nd time you do it you will not get that reward. The reason for this is that they want to push you into the roulletes and made those roulletes worth it because the gear you can buy with that currency is better than any individual dungeon reward. The only real reason to farm a dungeon for a specific piece of gear is for glam.

The best way to get an individual piece quickly if your only option is dungeon or raid content is to do the 8 man normal raid as that drops a ton of tokens that you can exchange for gear and you can run that as many times as you want. The raid gear will be at a higher ilvl than the dungeons, so this is the way to go if you lack tokens to purchase gear or don't have the money to by crafted gear as the token and crafted gear will be better.

  4. I have mixed feelings about anyone who recommends Hunts for gearing at FFXIV end game. It can be a bit odd to get into as a new player, especially if the data center you get into isnt communicating about cross server hunting and poaching from different servers. It can be a real drama fest during the updates when people are zerg rushing hunt kills so hard that they wont even render until they are almost on top of you (And a lot of hunts have one shot AoE skills specifically to wipe zergs).

Bit of Trivia for you; in FF 11, for the first ten years or so, it was incredibly rare to get any rewards from quests at all, including experience. The story was the reward! Boy, did people hate that. Equipment gains were almost entirely from specific npcs in the main cities, crafting, or hunting monsters that only spawned once a week.

The primary complaint I hear from new people coming into FFXIV is the dungeons being tied to story, actually having to watch cutscenes before running off to kill the next big bad. I used to laugh at this until the 2 hour cut-scene edition thing started becoming more common. I feel bad for anyone who has small children trying to make it through those.

  5. I would like to mention that there is a system where the game will award you any piece of gear for your job at the end of the dungeon. And because you cannot have two of the same item (from Heavensward and beyond. Some gear is sellable in ARR.) You can get every piece of gear from that dungeon just by completing it! That to my knowledge is every dungeon 1-69.

ALSO you can unsync dungeons/trials! Run in as lvl 80 iLvl 520 get all the gear. Slamming out the dungeons in minutes. Some can be solo'd. Some require at least 2.

  6. I like grinding for RNG drops. I enjoy Path of Exile for that reason. I just dislike when it's time-gated. As long as I can grind the content as much as I want, I don't care if the drop is RNG.
