I get that they wanted us to "learn about the various cultures" as part of yhe adventure, but that's just like taking beast tribes and making them mandatory…
It could've been optional and a greater emphasis could've been put on CHARACTERS having MEANINGFUL and SIGNIFICANT scenes together.
What makes a journey like this is quite literally the friends you take it WITH. Not the ones you meet briefly for like 2-3 levels along the way.
Leave exposition and culture digging for the optional side content and keep the plot intriguing and free to be a plot instead of an introduction.
I would've been 50 times more invested in these new places and cultures if the story that traveled through them was written more elegantly and skillfully. Instead we got heavy hamfisted obligatory exposition and "speak to wuk lamat" over 100 times…
It's just sad, man…
Dawntrail's msq feels like it's 90% written by AI. They feed it B rated movies and random documentaries on LATAM cultures and let it write the msq. Honestly. It's so freaking bad.
ew no time travel sucks always
In regards to the viper controversy, I'd say it's literally always better for classes to be accessible to as many players as possible.
There are many players out there that prefer to commit to a class based on the class's aesthetic and theming rather than the class's gameplay or "skill level"
While not every class needs to play exactly the same, i believe that they do need to be relatively easy to pick up and do well with for anyone that feels like doing so.
Imagine they released a class that you absolutely love the look of, but then you can't play it because it's literally too hard for you or the gameplay feels unlike what you enjoy.
That's such a waste imo…
And it's exactly why i think it's better to make the game's difficulty come from the boss-fights instead of the class-rotations.
The argument of "git gud" could always be made by the elitist gamer, but rather than "gitting gud" i think it's better if more players can simply craft the kind of character they appreciate without too much hassle or growing pains.
Also I don't find it fair to compare this garbage to ARR. ARR was the beggining of our story. We were NOBODIES when are began and we became the WoL by the end of it, saving 3 entire nations and killing literal gods in the process. Sure the pacing was slow, but what did people expected? That we got the isekai protagonist treatment and become superbeings starting the game? For DT this doesn't apply. We already came from an epic adventure of saving the entire universe and our "vacation" is taking care of a furry entitled princess and watch her tale of empowerment . Watch her become a being almos as powerful as us in a matter of days and with no effort at all? C'mon…
Yoshi P is a good fit for his job.
Sooo…if 14 is now released on Xbox does that also mean we maybe get FFXIII 1-3 on PS too? I played it on 360 years back and really wanna play it again but I don't have an Xbox anymore…
I don't think storytelling is a strong part of Yoshi's skill set.
The idea they had was good, regarding scions supposed "rivalry" and competing for the throne, but god the execution was abysmal. The first half felt like a babysitting job, and to me the best part was when we got to Yak'Tel. Shaaloani is definitely a product of many rewrites. I think the expansion could go on without them pushing in Estinien, Y'shtola and G'raha in the end to do, well, basically nothing.
The pace being slow is an understatement…
We should have had a break from Wuk Lamat for bigger part of second half of the MSQ. The final trial has her basically stealing the show while Krile and G'raha are just… sitting there? I'd like it way more if they all came to help instead of Wuk soloing the boss for us.
cant wait for XVI to come to xbox
Where is our vacation? Toward the launch of dawntrail promotion, for it was a vacation for the wol, yet we just ended up playing side kick the whole time. Where is my beach episode where we and the scions play volleyball while eating tacos? Like where is the fun π’
Why is he talking to outlets no one cares about?
He's really starting to look like a boomer…
Also why is everyone trying to gaslight me into thinking the ONLY problem was the story…
Wuk Lamat ruined the expansion.
Im just hoping that if they had plans to keep Wuk Lamat as a recurring character that they have either scrapped that or at the very least scaled her role back significantly. This is the first xpac that I have skipped cutscenes and dialogue because I was simply so fed up with a character and I hope all of that is behind me now.
SfEeEn LisTeN ToMe!
i have some criticisms of dt but overall i liked it. & i also like wuk lamat. so glad im not miserable enough to let a fictional character tilt me & get me crying about it on every comment section π
Dawn Trail is literally just like ShadowBringers. It had essentially the same exact kind of start of the game and world building. Yet people LOVE Shadow Bringers and are "mixed" on Dawn Trail. Honestly, I just chock it up to people being fickle. 3 to 6 years ago you can satisfy them with something for several years or months, then later they want something else. People lack self-awareness of themselves and what they actually want as well. When you're more in-tune with yourself you rarely find the time or interest in complaining about things and instead you move on to different things and quit wasting your time. The people who complain about DawnTrail are the same people who complete EVERY piece of "new" content within 24-48 hours and then complain that they're bored and "there's nothing to do." People truly have TOO much time on their hands and don't understand the meaning of deferral of gratification and savoring something while you have it. You can only experience something once, so enjoy it. Sink your teeth into it slowly. It took me like 4-6 weeks to complete DawnTrail. Mostly because I had to work and only had a couple days to truly dedicate my mind to it. I don't mindlessly play games unless I'm grinding something.
mmo devs are screwed no matter what, there will always be people who are unhappy something isn't being done the way they want it lol. This has always been the case, it's just now people make a bigger fuss online when they aren't happy often time far louder than the people who are happy or just neutral.
After playing all the MSQ from DT, and let me tell you, it took me SO long, I can safetly say its the first expansions MSQ that I literally, didnt like nor enjoy. Its like playing a whole different game. All the first part is about an NPC that doesnt change at all in all her journey, she starts as a hyped, ultra optimistic and boringly accepting character to… that, just that. Somehow she has some powerups out of nowhere, and outshines WoL all the time, while the character only does a "mhm" to everything she says or does. Second part I was like "WELP, here we go to adventure!" Just for it to be rushed and get back to Wuk doing the same shenenigans from the first part. I was incredibly dissapointed in how little is Kryile story developed, and how, for no apparent reason, the scions not important/present for most of the story. One thing that really bothered me is that I felt nothing at all. No empathy, no love, no sadness. All the story was so plain, obvious and the characters so forced, I couldnt feel a thing, while on other expansions I even cried with many stories and characters. I love FFXIV, I love Yoshi-P, but IMO it was terrible to say the least. We came from two INCREDIBLE expansions, for me, the best stories in the game. And this was a major dissapointment to me. Either way, I really hope in the future we go back to our scion lads and all this new expansion and all gets a time off to say the least. Anyway, this might be a terrible rant, but yeah, sadly is how I feel about DT MSQs.
I hope internally they will bench Daichi Hiroi. 6.1 onwards the story is so mid until 7.0 where it became terrible
I haven't been able to slog my way through this expansion yet. Wuk Lamat is possibly the worst character I've had to deal with (she's so BORING), and everything just feels like it's moralizing to me about something I couldn't care less about. I realize that they wanted to take us away from the whole "world is gonna end" seriousness, but I would still like to have a compelling reason to play. The pacing has been awful, there's been next to no fighting outside of dungeons, and NONE of the characters have been memorable. Poor Krile is still just a footnote hoping she'll get a chance to ask about her grandfather.
Thats crazy no games com untill the year 20,224
Looking back on it, Krile's story was the most tacked on portion of the whole story, even as far back as the Endwalker stingers. If they wanted to make it more organic, then it should have been the connective tissue between the contest and the second half of the story. It should have lead the way, not poor story in New Mexico.
