ABOUT THIS GAME

Final Fantasy 14 is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) developed and published by Square Enix. Directed and produced by Naoki Yoshida, it was released worldwide for Windows and PlayStation 3 in August 2013, as a replacement for the failed 2010 version of the game, with support for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and macOS releasing later. Final Fantasy XIV takes place in the fictional land of Eorzea, five years after the events of the original 2010 release. At the conclusion of the original game, the primal dragon Bahamut escapes from its lunar prison to initiate the Seventh Umbral Calamity, an apocalyptic event which destroys much of Eorzea. Through the gods’ blessing, the player character escapes the devastation by time traveling five years into the future. As Eorzea recovers and rebuilds, the player must deal with the impending threat of invasion by the Garlean Empire from the north.

The original Final Fantasy XIV, released in September 2010, was a commercial and critical failure. In response, then-Square Enix President Yoichi Wada announced that a new team, led by Yoshida, would take over and attempt to fix the issues with it. This team was responsible for generating content for the original version as well as developing a brand new game which would address all of the previous release’s criticisms. This new game, initially dubbed “Version 2.0”, features a new game engine, improved server infrastructure, and revamped gameplay, interface, and story. The original version shut down in November 2012 and was followed by an alpha test for Version 2.0.

The game released to largely positive reception; critics praised the game for its solid mechanics and progression, and they commended Yoshida for turning the project around. After a poor 2013 fiscal year, Square Enix executives attributed the company’s 2014 return to profitability in part to the game’s strong sales and subscriber base, reaching a total of over 24 million registered players by October 2021, also becoming the most profitable Final Fantasy game to date. The game has had a number of post-release updates produced for it, including four major expansion packs: Heavensward (2015), Stormblood (2017), Shadowbringers (2019), and Endwalker (2021).

  1. This isn't some kind of big important tip but more a guide about this game's biggest gimmick; being able to be every class in the game on one character. Now that you've done your starting classes' level 10 quest, you can go to all the other guilds in the city and do some short quests to unlock their class (and once the main story takes you to other cities you can get their classes too). How do you switch those jobs? Just equip that classes' weapon type and SCHWING you're that class. Now you have to equip their gear every time, right? Wrong! Just save a different equipment set for each of your unlocked jobs and swapping is as simple as clicking that equipment set as long as you're not mid-battle or mid-dungeon. Do you have to adjust the gear as you level those other classes including your main one? No, just use the auto-equip (a tiny blue button that looks like a silhouette of Link posing) and it'll automatically equip your highest level gear appropriate to your class. ALWAYS trust the auto-equip; item level and "main" stats are more important than any substat minmaxing until you're max level (and even then it'll still apply 95% of the time).

I guess the easiest way to compare it to SWTOR is to treat your character as your Legacy.

  2. Leves are okay early on, but they also fall off pretty early on. Your allowances are better served on leveling crafters and especially gatherers.

I would also at least try out some other classes, you can get really overleveled if you stick to one class and being overleveled doesn't really help much of anything. Spread out the EXP, see the various stories, maybe find some playstyles you like.

  3. Always fun to see what a new player thinks of the game, been playing for about 1.5 years now, and I am starting to become the person that seek up new player's streams/videos to see what they think as they go.

  4. The FFXIV Community is a wholesome one that loves newcomers. Because it sure does feel good to relieve these memories. Especially when you can't play like me. Have yet another sub and don't worry too much about viewership in the future. The core will stay. Even more with such good videos.

  5. Def pick up a sec fighting job. Lvl 30 will be the last class quest, after that you need to complete msq sylph management for more. Crafting ( e.g. Weaver) and gathering (e.g. miner) jobs can't do msq, so you can check those out whenever.

  6. Hey man, great video ^^ Can't wait to see you get further, especially into Heavensward-Endwalker.

Here's my 2nd piece of advice:
People will tell you not to bother with FATES, Leve quests, Side Quests, Hunt logs, etc – but feel free to jump into any of them at any point. They're a decent way to hop into gameplay and there are a few bangers there. 🤙

Also, feel free to continue with your current job (Gladiator), but definitely pick up another job class before you hit the Level cap.
The MSQ quests alone give you SO MUCH EXP that you can basically level two jobs at once just from MSQ exp.
You'll hit the Level Cap on each expansion way before you even finish the story.

  7. Sir, I've been laughing with tears through all of the ffxiv content you've provided us 😅 Keep it up, ffxiv players absolutely love when ppl give our game a chance and play it.
The gear you're getting right now will eventually start getting better, I think around level 30ish? Not sure if anyone's mentioned it already but
I do want to point out there's different gear for each classes/jobs, but before that there's DoW = disciples of war & DoM = disciples of magic,
as a gladiator until level 50 you'll want to get anything that says disciples of war or gladiator/paladin.
