How to catch Magic Carpet in FFXIV

Zone: Southern Thanalan
Fishing Hole: Sagolii Desert
Bait: Sand Leech (mooch Storm Rider)
Conditions: 9-16 during Heatwaves

Catching Magic Carpet can take some time, but is straight forward. Start off by casting into the Sagolii Desert. You will want to hook any !! that bites roughly 10s or less using a standard timer macro. If it is a Storm Rider, mooch using whichever mooch is available. If it is not, cast again. When the Storm Rider is mooched, hook any !!! bite, and ignore the rest. Magic Carpet shares a window with the Legendary fish Helicoprion, which is used in the Feast and Famine questline. If you get that fish, it is worth holding onto if you’ve not done the quest!

While your Mooch II is on cooldown (for 180s) use Patience II. Patience I will work if you don’t have Patience II. Patience will increase the likelihood of the fish you catch being high quality, meaning you can using Mooch I. You only need to use Patience if Mooch II is on cooldown. It is not worth chumming as you want to save your GP for Patience and the window is already pretty long.
