🐲Basilosaurus, the Collectable, the Mooch.
Since Basilosaurus is a collectable, you can ‘hold’ it with the collectables window. While in the collectables window, the fish is not added to your inventory. If you press “no” to the collectables, you will get non-collectable fish in whatever quantity you hooked added to your inventory. So if you Triple Hook a Basilosaurus and press “no” you’ll get THREE (3) Basilosaurus, TWO (2) if you use Double Hook.
It’s also worth noting that with Basilosaurus mooches, you may also get a Basilosaurus Rex. It’s safe to Double and Triple Hook up to 25s after the mooch, sorta risky up to 28 and very risky for bites up to 32. Any bite after 32 is a Basilosaurus Rex and should not be Double or Triple Hooked. You can ignore it if you want to save some time.
Finally, note that when you mooch a fish, ONE (1) of that fish is removed from your inventory. So your final count will not necessarily be exactly 12 Basilosaurus. Intuition only requires that the correct number of fish enter your inventory, not that they need to be keep in your inventory.
🔁Basilosaurus Catching Methods
Now, Basilosaurus can mooch into themselves, getting more Basilosaurus bites, which you can mooch again, so on and so forth. There are a few methods for getting 12 Basilosaurus during the 6 hour window ahead of when Gharlichthys is up.
Mooch Loop Method
Much like mentioned above, you can continually mooch Basilosaurus using Triple and Double Hook as often as possible. When the mooch loop breaks (either by catching a Basilosaurus Rex, or having the bite slip), you just get another Puff-paya and then carry on with mooching. Remember to press “no” on the collectable window to get more than one if you Double or Triple Hook. Use Makeshift Bait when needed. When you catch your 12th Basilosaurus, do NOT press “no” and wait for 14:00 to do so.
“Mooch II Cheese”
With this method, it’s a bit slower, but much less active. While the game has the collectable menu up, you still regenerate GP and your cooldowns still countdown; which we can use to our advantage. Once you get a Puff-paya and mooch it into a Basilosaurus (a !!! bite, remember), use Triple Hook, then wait on the collectables window. If you have more than 400 GP left and your hi-cordial is off cooldown, you can press “no”, drink the cordial, Mooch the Basilosaurus, and Triple Hook again.
On this next Triple Hook though, do not immediately press “no.” Let your GP regenerate and hi-cordial and Mooch II come off cooldown. Once you have 800 GP and everything is off cooldown, press “no” again, Mooch and then Triple Hook the remaining bites. You just need to do four times to get the twelve (12) Basilosaurus you need for intuition. On the fourth TH you do, WAIT until 14:00 before clicking “no” to get the intuition.
Single Mooching For Safety
Some people have defaulted to just getting a Puff-paya, mooching it, Triple Hooking Basilosaurus once, then breaking the mooch and catching another Puff-paya. This is not very efficient and while it provides safety against accidentally catching a Basilosaurus Rex, it is not recommended. I would not use this method.
Regardless of the method you use, the 12th Basilosaurus should be held with Collector’s Glove, ready for you to press “no” to when 14:00 rolls around or passes.
🎣Catching Gharlichthys
Once 14:00 rolls around, trigger intuition. Use Chum and cast out, catching the first thing that bites. If it’s not Ghalrichthys, use Surface Slap and then chum and cast out again. After you’ve slapped something you should ONLY attempt to hook !!! bites with Mackerel Strip, using Chum in between each cast.
Repeat these steps until the 5 minute intuition is up, 16:00 has passed, or -ideally- you catch Gharlichthys.
Good luck and happy fishing!

Gz on ur garlic fruity 🤍🤍
Had it bite several rounds ago, but it got away. Was I unlucky or is it a little slippery?
Feel they could have made intuition last 6mins, to cover the full time period. Feels weird leaving 'early'.
Was that Pa-Paya music at the start a reference to your Cinder video (a lot of the same fush to prep for Intuition in both cases) or it's just a coincidence? 😀
Anyway, grats on the catch! Idea of Triple Hooking each !!! in loop is very interesting, I kinda like it, although slips are a really big threat in this case.
I got it on my first try and seems like i was lucky o/ cause some of my friends had several slips of it
After a few windows where I failed to get the 12 basil's (including one 8 minute period without a single one!) I decided to show up an hour early and prep across two windows. Garlic-jail wasn't mentioned as one of the strategies for this fish but I do think it is worth considering for anybody having trouble. Actually catching garlic seems fairly easy once you have the intuition.
