I’m not an MMO person, normally, but maybe I can make a difference for the award winning game Final Fantasy XIV, with its free trial including gameplay up to lvl 60 and all the other stuff.

  1. 40:00 will the alt character also be shared on the channel? if not, oh well, but I do respect some stuff being only for Skyen. though at the same time I want to hear the thoughts on the magic classes, if only because I myself started with one :')

I myself have been chipping away at different storylines, and already have Arcanist, Lancer, Gladiator, Rogue and Archer done. they're all fun and interesting, but I'm still the mellowest on Arcanist as a story.

can't wait for next episode!! I think that this is actually the part of main quest where my favourite bit with Noraxia happens :')) but I might be mistaken. really hoping I didn't misremember it, since it is the moment that endeared me to her to no end

  2. 34:30 NPC dialogue there changes after you deliver your quest to Minfilia, that's the trigger that makes them realize "time passed", and also why Minfilia's room is a separated instance from the rest of the Waking Sands. So that when you go out, the game load the new Waking Sands instance.

39:40 I'm the kind of player that really loves having everything in a single character, but I understand that some people prefer to have separated characters for different reasons. You do you, and whatever float your boat is the right choice to make.

  3. FFXIV isn't really alt-friendly, since everything is character-based, not account-based, save for a few mounts you can purchase from the shop. That hasn't stopped me from making at least ten alt characters. I think of them as their own people, and as someone who mains a Lalafell, it's nice to play an average height character (or max height, sometimes).

I can look over the counter without a step stool that way.

And see how different the clothes look.

  4. I know some friends who gladly rock alt characters to the supreme, be it for other servers (before data center swapping is a thing of course) or just wanting to have other OCs!!! Do as you'd like, though you may want to emplore some level skips and such depending on when you tackle it, unless you're willing to just burn through all the ARR grind again.

  5. Most Elezen names are pronounced like they were french but most Elezen actually have RP accents (probably because after ARR they moved to London based studio for the voices), also as some have stated FF14 is quite Alt unfriendly and Wrothgar casters are a thing (most being from a place called Bozja with a major Bozjan NPC you'll meet later being a conjurer).

  6. As a healer, one thing that bothers me, (this is outside of the healer quest of course in which healing mechanics are part of the plot) often you'll be like:

    "I'm a healer I can help… can't I?… I can't? …ok"

which of course makes sense because well, you can't fix everything otherwise the plot wouldn't go the same for every class, but still, sometimes I feel stupidly powerless in the plot, as a healer that can't heal.

  7. Yeah, the Elementals are the definition of Ecofascism. Everybody (that doesn't worship them) hates that they have to answer to them, but they'll destroy the nation of Gridania if they are not appeased. Admittedly the calamity has significantly weakened them, but the Greenwrath is still a threat. Used to be, in 1.0, the Twelveswood was filled with level 99 monsters when everyone's max level was 50.

  8. Oooh, Storm Eagle's theme this time, nice.

Welcome to your first taste of why Gridania isn't the super happy peaceful place their nature-theme would imply. The elementals are dicks. More than that, they're also eldritch horrors. They're not touched on a great deal in the modern game, under the excuse that the Calamity has weakened them, but in the original 1.0 version of the game, they were apparently nightmarish things that could do really horrible things to anyone who irked them slightly, and still have the power to just end Gridania if they don't kowtow to their whims, which are barely comprehensible to the Gridanians as is. So a lot of awful shit happens just because that's how the elementals say it has to be and no one wants to oppose them.

Something I'll recommend is that from this point on, you should really stay on top of your class quests. From level 30-60, every class quest isn't just story but also unlocks new abilities as well. So just doing the Warrior quests, and for that matter the Monk ones too, is gonna be pretty important to making sure you actually have all your skills.

  9. You think you have seen what the game has to offer? I guess you have seen the basics. I am further along in the msq than this video and I believe there is more to experience. I don't know why but I really like the *** *** quests.

  10. Haukke Manor is still from times when devs wanted to created dungeons that feels like dungeons, with some places to explore and some gimmicks, here in Manor that is tiny keys and locked doors. With full first-timers party, you supposed to investigate rooms, find keys to open more rooms (with nice lewt). Sadly, later dungeons becoming more and more straightforward, where you just move from point A to point B, there is always only one path and only one door to go through. My favorite 3 ARR dungeons are Thousands Maws of Toto-rak, Haukke Manor and Sunken Temple of Qarn, cause they really feel like dungeons and not just a walk thru fancy decorations.

  11. As far as magic casters go, you might consider Red Mage for Bricc. As others have pointed out, having alt characters can be a bit of work, since you have to go through the MSQ again (unless you buy a skip potion from the store).

The reason I suggest Red Mage is because the idea of Bricc leaping about the battlefield with a rapier and stabbing while casting spells tickles my fancy. Red Mage becomes available at lvl 50 if you're interested. Ultimately, you do you!

  12. Something I'd like to point out during the final boss of Haukke Manor: notice the cast bar above her life bar pulsing red-orange on Void Fire and Void Thunder? That means you can interrupt those spells with Interject. You'll want to get used to Interjecting those… some spells NEED to be interrupted, and the only role guaranteed to have an interrupt in any given party is the tank. (Physical ranged, like archer/bard, machinist, and dancer, also have interrupts, but 1, not guaranteed to have one as dps, and 2, no guarantee they'll actually use it despite it being off-GCD.)

  13. I have been playing this again recently, having fun with my little armoured doll-person, but sadly there is no chance of me paying subscription on it so I am heavily restricted in what I can do, which can be frustrating at times. I have a couple of characters on different servers, still low level – nothing like my Guild Wars 2 account, which currently has 34 character slots (9 empty, ready for the upcoming expansion). I have a bit of a character creation addiction, so I tend to make a lot of characters if given the opportunity.
