How Mods "Saved" My Life in FFXIV

This is going to be the most controversial video I will make (so far), where I talk about Square Enix’s biggest opposition: Plugins, or Mods. In the hit MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV, FFXIV for short, there is a rule written in the Terms of Service reading: Third Party Tools are forbidden. And in this video, I go over why Third Party Tools are a good thing. Now I am aware of the cheating atmosphere that Third Party Tools offer, but in all honesty; majority of the people that do use Mods only use it for the aesthetic reasons and for the Quality of Life reasons that everyone desires and needs. I hope you enjoy this video as much as I loved making it! Hope you have a wonderful rest of your day or night, wherever you’re from and I’ll see you in the next one, take care!

  1. One of my favorite mods, allows Bards to make accurate (well CLOSE to accurate) MIDI's of songs and play them instantly in the game, which allows you to do what bards are supposed to do… make others feel a bit better by listening to some banger music.

  2. I'd enver say this in-game or on the subreddit, but the Job Bars mod has unironically made me a better player.
It's helped me get a much better feel of timing for DoTs and personal buffs, way more than anything in the vanilla game does.

  3. Its fun seeing what other people come up with. on one side of limsa youll see a devilish mommy succubus with large black and red wings, on the other side someone is boxing players dressed like an oversized flaccid winky that flops to the ground when it /playsdead

  4. I dont mind mods, but I stay away from character mods. Like if I see myself as a sexy badass, but to everyone else I look like a regular guy, it ruins it for me. So I do what I can to make the best looking characters in vanilla, so I look great no matter what.

I dunno if this is a silly thing to worry about, but I think about it alot.

  5. I haven't thought about modding too much since I've only been playing for a few months and is currently a free trial player, but I have heard there's some useful ones like ACT you mentioned. I knew visual mods exist, and could understand why. Admittedly, I'm debating on maybe changing into a Hrothgar whenever I buy the game. Not sure yet. So I looked at a video of the character creator to maybe get an idea. And holy crap, they're have it rough! I knew about the whole hat situation and admittedly the video is outdated, but geez!

I know some Hrothgar players use "certain" mods, but I totally don't blame them for using any visual mods to spruce of their character's appearance. I might have to look into it myself once I buy the game. Here's hoping Dawntrail does add more though. They need it.

  6. Mods give more life to the game that SE takes years to impliment. Like 70% of the rp scene uses mods. They havent given us customization, emotes, chat bubbled, antiscroll lock for chat. Just dont talk about it in public and youre fine

  7. I really wish I could enter the mod scene and add them to my gaming experience, but my only medium of playing FF14 is my laptop. And while it is decent, the fact it takes me 30 seconds to load into Limsa and another 2 min to fully load in the other characters NPC and being able to right click does NOT inspire confidence that modding will be a good idea hardware wise.

That said, if there were mods i could get, it would be shaders, some clothes, HD hrothgar models (Cus them eyes look mightly blurry), Horthgar hats, and some UI QOL stuff.

  8. As a mod user for roughly 7 or so years playing this game, I can absolutely say with confidence that they do in fact encourage me to play the game more! Mods enhanced my player experience and I was able to discover so many high quality aspects that made me love FFXIV in ways I wouldn't have before had I not taken the deep dive into the mod scene many years back.

I was also able to discover an incredibly deep & rich photography side of myself too, which has in turn allowed me to encounter many different types of people and even discover more about myself as a person. Truly, people appear to not think about the fact that little changes in your life like this can actually help with self-discovery that causes a positive domino effect!

I really enjoyed the video and had some nice laughs, so I think I will be subscribing since this was my first!

  10. I used to use ACT as well back when I was preparing for savage content. The game is actually kinda toxic around that level as people basically wouldn’t let you join if you didn’t have a parse of a certain amount. And so I decided to try and get better. While I never did go for parses. I did opt to learn the game better. And thus I practiced at S.S.S. Honing my rotation and joining the average game and watching if my numbers where keeping up. I soon became the top DPS in every game I joined. And all this so I could finally take on that savage content. But the reality is… people still didn’t let me join… the toxic environment that is end game just wouldn’t let me… and so… I stopped hoping. I ended up becoming more casual about the game. I still do a basic rotation. And when I play a new class that knowledge passes with me and I can see how classes are supposed to function. But I’m not as tight about it as before. Now if I slip up… oh well. Guess my cooldown is off.

Now adays the only mod I use is one that gives Viera their hats back lol.

  11. My general understanding is that Yoshi P doesnt much care about cosmetic mods, so long as they can't somehow improve your performance.
The only thing he's really antsy about is mods that give people an edge in raids and such, as it's from a tool not everyone has/has access to.

He also doesn't like people streaming this stuff because if he sees it, he is bound by law to do something.

  12. Mods are great fun, though I personally never use them. I can also appreciate Yoshi P’s stance of not allowing them and not asking questions. The degeneracy is a double/edged sword (in both style and combat encounters). When the alterations are small and personal, that’s great! But once it becomes something the development team has to start designing around (apart from adding new features), that’s when really nasty things can start creeping in.
