In this video Xeno gives his initial thoughts on how Gunbreaker feels to play in the latest Final Fantasy XIV expansion: Endwalker. Xeno talks about level 90 Gunbreaker rotation, power level, what he likes and dislikes about the job and what he would change to make Gunbreaker better in the future.

Is it time for another GNB rant? I think its time for another GNB rant.
Don't worry they'll fix gunbreaker when they decide to fix living dead for dark knight, so in another 2 years.
I agree wholeheartedly. Do you think to eliminate that moving the boss gnb should take over the role of OT rather than a MT? Some upcoming fights maybe they force to have to do a swap until the next buster (like zodiark EX for instance), but if they don't force you i think you should be a pure OT or, as you said, have a rework to fix those issues. Really looking forward to your take on the rest of the tanks!
Most other classes have more OGCD than RPR. Kind of insane how it has so few.
100%. As soon as Burst Strike got itâs continuation, this job felt so much clunkier to me. Popping mitigation in the middle of burst windows feels absolutely terrible.
You're so right man, I can play the job well but holy hell does it feel like shit to play, even if the high apm can be fun.
Your discussion on why you think gunbreaker at 90 is bad was fine until you started making unsubstantiated claims like "they didn't test this." What exactly are you basing that on, because you think it's bad? Maybe it is–but that doesn't mean they didn't test it. Just because you can't comprehend why someone did something doesn't mean they didn't do at least some kind of due diligence. Stick to what you can reasonably assert–that you think gunbreaker has bad design. Leave the rest of the assumptions and hyperbole out of the discussion. Otherwise, I enjoyed the vid. Thanks!
Truly believe its the other way around: they added a cardridge and then thought: "oh s*** thats too much actually, BUT we could add an action that eats TWO cardridges…"
"okay we do it that way"
Continuation on Fated Circle and double down would have been cool, but on Burst Strike, kinda weird.
That skill felt like utility for defensive weaves and moving the boss alot of the time and no longer can be that flexible GCD during no mercy
Gives me a similar sense to Ninja changes. There is basically one less Ninjitsu now because Huton is a waste of mudra now with that wind slash thingy. Itâs never worth a mudra charge or GCD because you could spend that GCD on like a 300 potency attack and have a Raiton leftover instead. So instead of making a new ninjutsu, theyâve just crippled the entire system and now it feels incomplete. The joy of the Ninja was in actually feeling like you were crafting your own spells and feeling like a real Naruto ninja, but now one of your spells is an objective waste of time. Really feels like no one gave this any thought whatsoever
Maybe it's a ping thing or something, but continuation after burst strike comes out so quickly, that I have absolutely zero issue double weaving a defensive after continuation. It definitely doesn't feel clunky to me, I actually enjoy it. If that makes me wrong, cool.
That said, moving the boss is a bitch, and I'm definitely not great at it. Luckily for the extreme trials, I am always OT cause my buddy is WAR lol, so moving the boss is a non issue 90% of the time. We will see how the raids affect it.
I know they said they'd never do this again, but I feel like Gunbreaker should be split into two classes, a tank and a damage dealer, like how Arcanist splits off into Summoner and Scholar.
While I've never felt issues with doing the damage rotation as well as using defensive cooldowns when I need to (note that I haven't played any tank in Endwalker yet, this is small Shadowbringers experience from levelling) this class so clearly should have been a damage dealer, and with how people feel about it having a damage dealer rotation and the thoughts expressed in this video the only way I can see getting the best of both worlds out of the idea of the class is if they gave it the Arcanist/Summoner/Scholar treatment.
That way if someone wants to tank with Gunbreaker it can be a more solid tank while also allowing it to be a pure damage dealer in the form of a separate class so Square can give it that kind of rotation instead of amalgamating the two.
Can't wait for his warrior video, I for one does not like the new level 90 skill primal
Would you argue that dark Knight is also poorly designed because of all the ogcds?
From what I can tell, gunbreaker does about 10% more dps than any of the other tanks. Have you seen this as well? If so, does this seem acceptable to you?
BUT….its fun!
They should make it so continuation can hold up to 3 charges and the abilities just give you a continuation charge so you can delay its use if you need to use a defensive.
Is Dark Knight better?
Gunbreaker's like an awesome pair of shoes that have a rock under the soles.
Love Gunbreaker to death but I have to agree. Great defensive abilities and fun yet simple DPS rotation but they definitely have to address the clunkiness issue. I'd be okay with getting rid of Hypervelocity.
Good to know I'm not the only one feeling like the job feels clunky as fuck.
based hairless asmongold teaches you how to really tank (alternate title )
GNB is fun except when I have to move and also hit 4 buttons in the span of 1.25 seconds
Everything about GNB could stay the same atm, they just need to add another one or two ways to gain cartridges, cause as xeno said its hard to have all that you need to fit in the windows.
The problem with Xeno's take is that he claims he loves the job but he also claims he doesn't like the playstyle. While not completly contradictory, seems like he just want Gunbreaker's defensive options on another class, and I'm not knowledgable enough to know it that's already the case…Paladin maybe?
I feel like continuation is only going to plague the job more and more as time goes on
Great video as always brother! Will you share your thoughts on the other Tanks for this patch? Would be great take care
As a dps player, I dont think everything not fitting into a single No Mercy window is bad. Knowing what to prioritize going into your burst window makes for more engaging gameplay. Look at EW Ninja, if they want to fit everything into a trick window, they need like 30s of trick. Yet the scarcity in the amount of time during the trick window makes burst windows a lot of fun, at least for me.
Although I do have to acknowledge a problem with my claim. Ninja is a dps, gnb is a tank. Im not sure if a gnb should have to juggle tank responsibilities AND optimize their burst windows, but I dont think not having a long enough no mercy window is inherantly bad design.
Edit: Continuation is ass backwards for sure though. Its fun until you have to press any defensive cd
I'm torn as I agree that the dps ogcds can easily get in the way of your defensives and that is a feelsbad. However, I really like the pace outside of said defensives. Obviously they won't change it to a dps job so yeah…torn.
I agree with Xeems!
if they made these 4 adjustments, GNB would be really good:
1. Put continuation on a stack system and allow you to use continuation at any point within 30s after using the gnashing fang combo or burst strike. It would hold up to 4 stacks.
2. Give NM a 25s duration.
3. Increased the range of continuation.
4. Give Gnashing Fang a higher potency than Burst Strike. A GCD that you can only use every 30s should not do less damage than a GCD you have access to at all times.
Edit: I had 4 adjustments in my mind before posting this comment, forgot one after typing 3 of them, oops lol. And I just remembered what the 4th is.
gunbreaker sounds like the tank version of ninja
I played GNB all of ShB and is the first tank I got to 90.. saw the final rotation and went to level up Warrior. Sorry not sorry đ I prefer to do a little less damage and be more comfortable moving around than being a machine-gun who can't pop defensives during the burst window
personally i disagree with alot of whatÂŽs being said here… and also the claims that "you dont like it" and then "its really fun"… seem a lil spoiled.. go play another tank that doesnt play like that, and "have fun" ? i enjoy playing gnb over any of the others tanks atm.
Youâre clunky strummer
I really wanted "Trigger" ability.
Like already in shadowbringers i tought they would make it the core of GNB, but no. If they remove continuation and replace it with any trigger mechanic that even remotely works like in FFVIII , it would make the Class A. Harder B. Not clunky C. Not DPS in disguise.
