  1. Don't put sprouts and mentors in the same boat, at least sprouts are learning and listening, while mentors are trying to give false information since they don't know what they are talking about … Learned that from doing Shiva, fed false information to all people, after 15 min of 1 shot wiping, did quick guide video for mechanics, confronted him on his/hers bullshit, started bitching and left ( that's one example of many ) … No, mentors are below sprouts.
Sorry for the 5% of good mentors out there.

  2. I’m a PvE mentor. There’s a couple things to understand about mentors. There’s the status icon mentor. They want the status, not the work, and you’ve probably met a few.

Then there’s the real mentors. Remember that we’ve done that content likely a thousand times, and sometimes space out wanting to get through it. When I queue expert, I’m just a player. I didn’t sign up to answer your question about the best way to level BLM in Heavensward. Now, Mentor roulette? That’s a different animal. That’s solely for mentors to help sprouts. And I do my best, even when sprouts decided to all queue Minstrel’s Ballad Nidhogg and I know what’s coming down the pike.

  3. It's exactly why a lot of people who should be mentors don't wear the crown. The people parading the mentor crown around having no clue what they're doing half the time. It's people with experience of harder content getting shutdown by these mentors and called toxic elitists, while telling sprouts not to listen to them and just enjoy the game. They're detrimental to actually helping people develop.

  4. I wanted to be a mentor to get into the novice network. I was ok, trying to help new players, but the chat is … is just like being in Limsa reading stuff you wished you didn't read. I left the chat and I don't miss it.

  5. I was a sprout doing a dungeon for the first time, I died once right at the end during the final boss. I was just a DPS so we beat it anyway. Before the Mentor left he said to me “Holy shit you’re so bad at the game just uninstall it”. This was the only thing they said during the entire run.

  6. not a Mentor, but saw mentor tank realy hammer chainpulls to point healer was struggling. they had go at this healer for not keeping up, being bad. I got in to a fight with the mentor saying he poor excuse for a tank , he job to guide new people. he rage quit, tell healer and other dps add me as a friend I'll tank for them (Main tank). Tanking for healer for while now, we do big pulls they have come amazing healer to point they are now on my sever as my raid healer. Be Kind, doesn't take much to do, someone wary don't be a dick, just encourage them if it go wrong tell them it okey it happens let try again. Don't rage on them.

  7. As someone who was a sprout very recently I've to say that my main issue is with the crafter mentors. The battle ones usually know what they are doing and are willing to help, crafters think they are entitled to give advices in duties as well but they know absolutely nothing. The weirdest advice I got has been at the end of my first time in Sohr Khai. At the very end the healer crafter mentor said "tank… You need more abilities" and immediately left. To this day I've no idea what he meant

  8. They should make mentor qualification stricter. They should at least have done all extreme trials 10 times, completed all savage raids and at least complete one ultimate. FFXIV mentor title is a joke and only clowns wear the crown. I've been a hardcore player for years yet still not willing to take the mentor title. the mount is ugly anyway

  9. I'll admit it's an ambition of mine to reach mentor status but because I want to be apart of the NN chat again and actually help/give advice there. I type on a ps4 controller so if someone's in a duty I can actively help them better if I'm not in thd duty with them since it takes me a long time to type but if they ask something I can answer while they run and kill the in between boss enemies if that makes sense. I find other ways to help without the status but it's usually just through my FC. Those seeking the rewards, well, though some see it as selfish and greedy some like the sheer challenge of it. It's not easy having to get 1,500 commendations, complete 1,000 duties to establish thr mentorship then complete 2,000 mentor roulettes afterwards

  10. Not all mentors are bad, but yeah there are those that only have the crown just for the status and vanity, like some ultimate players. Gotta have that crown with that title with that weapon out.

    But those weapons are cool.

  11. I think there are unrealistic expectations for mentors as well. I got Sephirot ex in the mentor roulette recently, but hadn’t done that fight in 3 years or so sync’d. Now I’m expected to remember every mechanic and teach it. Thank freakin goodness for mtqcapture!

  12. Was playing tank with a healer mentor in Bardam's Mettle, dude just ran into every single enemy while sprinting while I'm explaining to the sprout about some mechanics just to get it out of the way early, and then the healer gets mad I wasn't rushing the dungeon with them lmfao
And then in the second boss the guy gets EVERYTHING wrong. Not just one thing, not just one phase, but EVERYTHING wrong. There was not a single time he wasn't fettered like immediately 💀

  13. Was in an extreme trial with 7 sprouts and one mentor,. Wiped 10+ times, and the mentor doesn't even utter a single word. It was a fellow sprout who then explains the whole mechanic and carries the whole team.

  14. i have a different perspective, usually sprouts are dicks and think you can just tunnel vision or instant pull a extreme. Then when the mentor calls them out they pretend you shot their dog.

  15. Only time I saw someone tell the group "no" when asked to do something was a mentor. Guy didn't stack during a stack marker, tank asked him to stack, he said "3 is enough." I died.

  16. Yeah, sounds about right. I got my crown recently, and it feels kind of wrong to have it on sometimes due to the stigma of being a mentor. So many trash crown players who have a superiority complex because of that little icon. I had all 80s and was helping players left and right long before I applied for mentorship, it's nothing special really

  17. I play in the japanese server and most mentors are okay, they still follow mechanics and are generally nice people. But it gets real frustrating when they try to teach you something and all you can see is kanji 😢

  18. Never bothered getting involved with Mentors. I'm one of those people who likes to do my own research and learn things at my own pace. I've asked a few members of my FC questions about stuff in the past, but mostly I've either looked it up myself or learned it through experience or trial & error.

I have thought about applying for Mentor but after seeing the comments here I'd rather not be a part of the one toxic aspect to this game's community XD

  19. There’s a reason I never have my crown up, I just explain the mechanics and offer tips on tanking/dpsing as I go. No need for a mentor tag for me to just be a nice and friendly player from the turtle server.

  20. You will understand the mentors behaviour after becoming one your self and going for that achievement… No one has the energie to be amazingly helpful after hundreds of roulettes, going through the same stuff, over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over , keep smiling , over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over
