Heavensward ENDING and Coils of Bahamut COMPLETE – FFXIV Heavensward Part 8

WoW Refugee to FFXIV Heavensward Part 8:
After 15 years of World of Warcraft, I finally took the plunge to try FFXIV around 2 months ago and it was the best decision Iā€™ve made. This game is absolutely incredible and Iā€™m so glad Iā€™ve become a WoW refugee and found a new home in FF14.
As always this will contain heavy spoilers for Heavensward, as this is the FFXIV Heavensward ending video it will cover major events at the end including the ending to coils of bahamut. Everything will be timestamped if you want to avoid certain parts of the video for spoilers.

If you enjoy this content I do stream 3-4 times a week on Twitch from 7pm:
https://www.twitch.tv/medievalmarty

Iā€™ve already completed an 18 part series through FF14 ARR and this is part 7 of the FFXIV Heavensward series. The majority of this video is the ending of FFXIV heavensword and the completion of the final coils of Bahamut. Heavensward story has completely thrown me, I never expected such an incredible story in an MMORPG and didnā€™t even realise FFXIV could make me this invested in such a small amount of time.

Really hope youā€™re still enjoying these FFXIV reaction and progress videos ā€“ please let me know in the comments if you want to see anything in its own video and where you think we should go from here. Would you want to see the series continue into stormblood or keep reaction videos for each patch from here?

  1. I did Coils unsynched at level 70 when Stormblood was out if I recall right. It was me and a few friends (Party of 4) and we had difficulty with T9. It's the instant kill mechanics that really make these raid fights so challenging. Splitting the meteors properly, healing through it I was NOT used to taking damaged like that in unsynched level 50 content. I can solo dungeons easily with that much of a level difference. But, not getting hit by the tower, avoiding the ground spam… just… everything. I was in it for the story.

Looking back, I do kind of regret not doing Bahamut (And Summoner) prior to Heaven's Ward. It explains SO much that you only get in hindsight. People who got up to Phoenix were likely not as surprised at Shiva's debut in the game for example.. or at least understood the concepts behind it.

  2. Alisae in 3.4 was the first time Red Mage was introduced into the game. SE did told nothing about it whereabouts and suddenly it appeared on MSQ. It was a surge of hype back then, since everybody want Red Mage as a job. SE even didn't made the red mage animation nor the weapon properly, so nobody guess that a prototype of Red Mage will be shown on 3.4, not even the dataminers. Gosetsu was a hint for Samurai. So Square Enix back then really like to give hint for a new job. Since Shadowbringers, instead o f giving hint inside the game; SE start using media tour, fan festival, and trailer to give hint of a new job (and race).

3.4 ending was confusing, even for us back then. Lots of theory crafting were surfacing and many think that the story is irrelevant to the whole story, thus making it a bad patch story. All of them will be answered in Shadowbringers. ;D

The craziest part it, you still play a Freetrial part of this game.

  3. PvP gets a lot of bad rap, but honestly it's pretty great casually. I think the actual design is some of the best I've ever dealt with, but the awkward netcode does hamper things a bit. I'm just glad you don't have to farm up PvP gear. idk if they ever changed in it WoW, but it felt really bad to just be an undergeared leech for dozens of BGs before you got enough PvP gear that you weren't useless.

I definitely prefer catboi, but that's my personal bias. You do seem to like edgy a lot, and I think DRK suits that better.

I much prefer your current way of doing things. I wouldn't mind both types of videos, but I like this format.

  4. had same sentiments about warriors of darkness when I got to 3.4 too back when I started XD

    HAHAAH parseltongue tho.

I really enjoy the commentary type videos you've been posting since part 1. but that might just be me, someone who never really got into lets plays and twitch streams. I enjoy hearing your thoughts about the game when you have more time to think about your experience.

  5. I like the synopsis type episodes where you highlight the parts of the game you found great. A few twitch/reaction videos to some of the moments that blew your mind would be nice too (personally I find a hour and a half video of twitch recordings boring). Anything lala related too. I was a fan of Stormblood with some of the most interesting characters in the game. It's overshadowed by Shadowbringers but still a fun ride.

  6. I like this version of the video as your 'main' content. I love listening to your thoughts after the event has happened, it's so unique and not many content creators I know do this.

The occasional live reaction vids are good too, don't get me wrong but those are usually less fleshed out coz let's be honest, when big things happen in FFXIV, most people just have their mouth gaping in disbelief/grief/shock šŸ¤£

  7. It honestly speaks so much about a community if you're playing for months with so many people watching you and you still have no clue where the story is going šŸ™‚ You still have the same reactions as day one, being genuinely surprised by the game and as someone who played through all of this content when it was fresh, getting the same reactions as you do now, it's SO entertaining and kind of like a throwback to my own story experiences ā™„ Don't stop what you're doing, the format is just right to not drag anything out too much and really entertaining. Really like the summary. Who wants a Twitch recap should just watch Twitch. Honestly, it's the perfect balance.

  8. I feel like u might find Stormblood disappointing, I love it but it's weeb hours and kinda sidetracks from all the story that's building here. Lots of people say it's the weakest expansion, but Heavensward and Shadowbringers are both outstading so it's tough competition. The ending makes sense by the end of ShB lol

  9. I did all of coil back in ARR, so …well there was only synced. It was all over the place with who though. some I got carried by the progress static of my FC back then (or subbing for one of their members, that happened more often during the last tier), some I did with a midcore static in later patches of ARR, some I got carried by other friends xD.
(obvioulsy the fights are hard enough that you usually cannot speak of a carry if I have to pull my own weight, but often times I was the only one not on farm when I got into there the first time)
I think there are players who play a lot of PvP here. Just with the importance of MSQ and so many cool sidestories in anything I dont think there are PvP only people. The amount of PvP interest outside of PvE content probably is different for everyone though.
I sometimes like it, but unless there is some sort of event going on, I only play ever so occationally. It was more often back in WoW, but still what I'd call occational.

  10. I def think you have something special with your format. Your not just following the trend but making your own honest content. I'd like to see Stormblood int he same format. THanks again for doing such a great job and bringing this community together.

  12. I think you're totally right that the warriors of darkness came and went a little too fast here. Seems like they wanted them to be a B-plot with heavensward clean-up and stormblood set-up but they accidentally made them too interesting.

  13. What an ending but there's more to come in Stormblood!

First of all, congrats on the mount and nice Au Ra look! And I cried to Papalymo's sacrifice and then Shinryu vs Omega! Intense! (Don't worry you'll be seeing these two again in the next expansion.)

As for the videos, I like the summary videos a lot! It seems to be a good way to cover the journey without too much detail as well as your thoughts so please continue with Stormblood and Shadowbringers with this style! ^_^

Have fun in Stormblood! There you'll see Alisae as a full proper Red Mage since that was the expansion that introduced that class!
