  1. Used to alternate between WHM and AST in the past, but over the past couple expansions or so the healer design has just felt super stale and dated. Too much mashing of one button. More a Tank or DPS these days.

  2. Being locked for BiS for weeks is garbage. I see where you are coming from. I go for playstyle. For me I go for the following
Tanks – WAR is amazing. PLD isn't for me to play anymore. DRK solid OT (but is a DPS) GNB is just kinda like DRK but same boat.
Healers – I like SGE just for playstyle and same for AST. You're right about WHM and I just don't really like SCH.
Melee DPS – They are all Solid AF. DRG needs to lose the animation lock but outside of that I think they are all well balanced and very fun.
Range DPS – BRD is really fun. DNC is enjoyble. I really do not like MCH, the playstyle is dry and compared to the other 2 classes… it's just for me.
Magic DPS – SMN is dumb fun. I love casting while I move. RDM has button bloat but really solid. And because I can't do gear slots easily… BLM isn't for me. Though I am planning on trying to make a specific gear set just for BLM with spell speed to see what it's really like.

  3. I was in the same boat as you when Endwalker dropped. A lot of people made WHM to be the short end of the stick, though still playable if melded correctly. If you still want to enjoy white mage, scholar would be its pair in materia melding. They both need spell speed and piety along with some crit and det. Astro and Sage are kind of the speed builds of the healers. They would require more crit and det. The unfairness with AST and WHM is that whm is spending more MP for the same potency of heals that AST is doing and it casts slower too. We are hoping that 6.1 will give some quality of life to our dear job. In the meantime; enjoy the other healers and expand your horizon. Throw yourself in every piece of content with all the other 3, and see where you learn towards over time. Don't feel too bad; there is always 1 or 2 jobs that just get shat on every expansion. I think with white mage having its problems; its forcing a lot of casual healers to stretch their wings a bit; and I think that is good. The most job played by casual players is white mage; so why not encourage a bit of wiggle room? Anyways, great thought video.

  4. I mained Astro Shadow Bringers, but I have switched to Scholar. I feel like the busy work of Astro is frustrating if your party isn't playing well. Also, Lady of Crowns is horrible as you said. Scholar just really has no downsides. You don't actually need to use the shields to play it outside of savage content either, so I don't unless it's pre-pull or an emergency. And I will typically use swiftcast for adlo aswell.

  5. Zoe + Pneuma is not the only healing option, you should alway first be mitigating with kerachole than using physis + Ixochole to heal. This way, you get 440 potency from Ixochole and 650 potency from physis regen and 500 potency from kerachole. This by itself should be able to top the raid to full easily. Sages should always make use of the fact that unlike SCH's Indom which is a DPS loss, Ixochole is not so you can spam it as much as you want.

  6. SCH used to have issues of running out of resources
Sage just..have almost infinite resources but the potency arent really impactful, but very very very flexable.
    AST being way too busy.
And WHM. I dont even want to talk about it…

  7. I was a Holy Priest in WOW and eventually it just became bad and annoying to play. I started as WHM and it is the class I have played about 90% of the 6 years I have played FFXIV. I just can’t stay away from it.

  8. Sage is relying on mitigations more than scholar. I moved from scholar to sage and I miss the aesthetic of having a fairy friend, but it just feels better. Sage's fat heal is zoe pneuma and that's fine. In solo content, you're going to be lacking, and that is by design. In group content, sage is excellent. You didn't mention physis 2, which you can pair with Kerachole for a good regen heal. Sage might not have a burst heal, but it can still heal.

  9. Dumbest reason here probably: Sch.
    Why? Que times
I play smn, beat savage in statics with SMN, after week 8 and all the loot is no longer needed on mains, i just throw the leftovers onto it. I use it purely for dungeon expert runs, does the job. It aint as good as the WHM runners, but I am comfy enough with it, and when I get a good group who can utilize chain strat on the bosses right, it feels nice.

  10. When comparing SCH and SGE, we've seen that SCH can pump out the biggest shields when using their entire skillset (which helps with skipping boss mechs), and Chain Strat/Expedient are always appreciated. However, SGE offers multiple smaller heals/buffs (and I think dps) over its rival, so it really depends on what you really want out of it. SCH all the way for me.

  12. SCH just feels so good right now. I really feel much more in control than with WHM (that I always feel behind?) and AST (that's always making me feel overwhelmed). Haven't tried SGE yet though, but hearing you speak about it I'm excited to try it!

  13. I enjoy the mana problem for WHM but I understand that I'm in the minority for it, its just a side game I liked playing keeping my mana up and running from old WoW when mana still mattered so I'll still always be WHM

  14. I started as a dps main. Geared monk, Sam and reaper. But now I’m healing savage raids as whm/sage and I love it. P3S is still a pain in the ass but I love the healing in the game. Definitely switching to healing. As for a main, I have whm and sage because they are the only ones my monkey brain can handle on controller

  15. I've mained SGE through this tier, it's fun. I'm currently leveling SCH for some variety. I was an AST main last expansion, but man, the buttons, and the lightspeed opener, it kinda stresses me out. Also shields just seem better than regen.

When people say "the optimal thing is to just spam dosis/broil/glare/malefic," they're not wrong, but that's the not the scenario you're playing in 90% of the time. The fun part of healing is fixing other people's mistakes or even preemting them with rescue or a shield. Ideally, you do that while not using any GCDs. I would love to parse well, but if a DPS dies, that's a lot more of a DPS loss than you missing a couple dosis or glares.

  16. The goal of a Sage, in my opinion, is to not have party members low enough to need a phat heal in the first place. And I say it's acceptable weakness compared to the other healers.

  17. I liked astro in ShB, and I thought it would be really strong in EW. And it is, but I don't like how they reworked the card system. It just feels worse to play, even if functionally it's really not that big of a deal. If I had to play a pure healer I would just play white mage, just because blood lily. That said, scholar was my favorite healer in ShB. I loved the old damage kit back in the day, and even the pruned version is still fun to me. Playing scholar is kind of like playing black mage. It feels really good when you make some kind of big brain shield spreading play. The fairy has cool buttons, expedient is really handy in a lot of situations, and the shorter cast time on broil really opened up the class to use a lot of it's kit without losing much dps.

All THAT being said, sage is the best and all other healers are trash now. Sage has the best dps kit, it has a really good off global kit, and it can even cast it's global heals while moving. The heals might not be as big as some of the other healers, but it's not really a problem. They have enough heals to handle anything assuming people aren't playing like idiots, and everything else about the class is just better. Not to mention the rescue+icarus combo for laughs. Need I say more? Just play sage, because sage is sage. Sage. And convince your other healer to enjoy astro, and then you won't have to worry about the healing feeling light. Just throw out the dome + physis 2 whenever damage is coming up, and then zap to win. Sage. Scholar is honorable mention. But sage.

  18. I am 2 months into the game, just finished SB. I've started as a WHM, found it really boring, even though I loved WoW's Holy Priest. I now main AST, and I find it really really fun (plenty of OGCDs), and tbh managing cards isnt too big of a deal once you get used to it.
