  1. just to let everyone know – I bought FFXIV just yesterday and played it for the first time over at my stream on twitch and it was MIND BLOWINGLY FUN Experience. I'll try to edit a video for that and show you guys my first-hand experience as I get completely lost figuring stuff out, LMAO.

  2. After all of this, community went and purchased so much things from the cash shop to support the publisher and the dev. Other MMORPG could learn from this. You don't need to squeeze money out of players by implementing unfair game mechanics. All they need is gain trust by listening to the community and make a good game. People will notice their passion eventually. You also make loyal customers out of it.

  3. Soken is the music producer. YoshiP is the director and producer. Welcome to the community. FF14 has its flaws like every mmo and it’s not without its problems. But what’s good about 14 is better than anything out there

  4. Soken has, as the main composer of FFXIV, done the impossible task of succeeding the great Nobuo Uematsu in directing the Final Fantasy music. It is incredibly loved and adored, praised all over. And it only got better and better over each expansion.
And the amount of importance they give to the songs is on a whole different level. Natsuko Ishikawa, the lead writer who also spoke in this video, always discusses the timing of the music for each of the cutscene. And almost all the lyrics of every song is deeply related to the bosses and the fights themselves, something that Soken and Koji Fox (the translator here, who is also a lyricist, as well as the co lead lore and world developer, as well as a vocalist for the ffxiv band), work on all the time. The song they mention, that Soken wrote in the hospital bed, "To the Edge", is one of the prime examples of that.

  5. notice your comment about trying out the game. I hope you enjoy the journey as much as I have. Couple tips

Take your time and try not to rush. I know it may be tempting with the expansion just over the horizon, but try to just absorb it and enjoy the journey, the characters, the music, etc. Also when it comes to story and lore, it is constantly building on top of itself. Some things in recent patches are referenced from something said all the way back in Realm Reborn to give an idea.

If you ever feel burnt out on leveling combat jobs or doing the msq as it is very long, try some of the side content. The crafting in this game is amazing. You don't just click a button and watch a bar fill up. You actually use skills and abilities, figure a rotation for the item you want to craft and equip gear for special stats to improve your ability to create a high quality item over a normal quality item. Gathering is also great if you just want to chill.
There are also other things like the Gold Saucer which has a lot of fun mini-games like triple triad (a card game inspired by the one in FF8), Chocobo Racing/Breeding, and obstacle courses/events. MGP you get there can be exchanged for glam, emotes, mounts, minions, hairstyles, etc.

FF14's biggest weakspot though is the PvP. However, seeing as you are a Guild Wars 2 player that might not be a problem. You could just jump onto GW2 when you wanna PvP. (that is what I do when I get the itch every blue moon even though I'm not very good I just use the p/p thief build. lol)

  6. And this is why this game is the best mmo on the market now…the dev team and the community….also the story. It is the best final fantasy story in the series…and thats a game series that started in the 80s and revolutionized and made rpg popular in the west…so that is saying something.
Enjoy the ride…and have a box of tissues next to you…you will need it, especially after you finish ARR.

  7. One thing to note: the fact Yoshi refers to Soken as simply Soken, without any honorifics, is something you would only hear a Japanese person do with only their closest friends and family. So it's real love on that stage, not just people who work together or just acquaintances.

  8. they love what they are doing that why the game is amazing. You have to love with you do to make/give a good product. They pay attention to their players. They love their players and their players love them.

  9. I don't think it's weird it makes you want to play, when you see they're good compassionate people it makes you trust them more to create a game with the players interests in mind, instead of ONLY profits like so many companies. I started FFXIV about 5 years ago and didn't know anything about the devs back then but as I've learned more about them and seen their passion for the game and the playerbase, it makes me feel better about my time/money investments into the game.

  10. Dunno if anyone else explained it yet, but 6.0 is indeed the new (coming) expansion Endwalker.

1.0 was the failed first launch.
2.0 is A Realm Reborn (ARR aka vanilla)
3.0 is Heavensward (HW, the first expac)
4.0 is Stormblood (SB, second expac)
5.0 is Shadowbringers (SHB, current expac)
(if you see mentions of X.1 to X.5, those are post-Main Story patches in the lead up to the following expansion)

Also, welcome, and hope you have fun trying out the game 😀

  11. As others have said, Soken and Yoshi are very close friends. When Yoshi took over to rebuild the game, and everyone was skeptical of him and if he could really turn the game around, Soken was one of the people who believed in him.

The woman who spoke to Soken is Natsuko Ishikawa, who wrote a lot of the story in the game including the latest expansion, and is writing the next expansion as well. She helps consult on some music because the music is so important to the story and moments in the game, including the lyrics. She felt bad because while Soken was secretly in the hospital while working, she was being kind of picky about one of the songs they were working on for one of the recent major patches. In the end, it was that hard work that drove him to recover and that song was incredibly well received, even by FF14 standards. He put everything he had into it, like it was the last song he'd ever make.

  12. On a WoW / FFXIV compare vid, Chris from Work to Game put it best. FFXIV lets you see behind the curtain, they invite you into the home, and if it is a mess, they will apologize for it. FFXIV and Yoshi P are very transparent, and Yoshi listens to what the players want, and if it is reasonable, works to make it happen. I loved my time in GW2, and I love playing FFXIV. the fact I can do both means I am never bored. 🙂

  13. it doesn't seem weird to me that you want to play because of the devs. for a lot of ffxiv players, the devs are one of the big reasons we love the game. they are so passionate about the game, love their work so much, and the community. they will actively listen to player compliments and complaints, go through forums seeing if anything needs fixed, etc. and are even fans of some content creators. soken strait up admits to being a fan of alex moukala and husky's videos and watches them often. they all play the game too, soken mains white mage, tried paladin once but had tank anxiety, and yoshida is one of the best black mages to exist in the game.

  14. .0 patches are expansions (2.0 is A Realm Reborn, 3.0 is Heavensward, 4.0 is Stormblood, 5.0 is Shadowbringers, and the upcoming 6.0 is Endwalker.)

.1, .2, .3, .4 and .5 patches are continuations of Main Story Quests (MSQ), additions of Savage and Trial content, relic weapons, etc. Such patches are usually every 3-4 months apart, but 5.3 (which they talked abou there) was delayed because of Covid and took 6 months to come out. It was such a major/emotional patch that the international community made compilation of content creator reactions regardless of language because the reactions transcend any language barrier.

Of course, 5.3 and the theme that came with it (To The Edge) now REALLY hits different after the announcement of Soken having cancer.

  15. While other developers makes excuses to delay their games n such , using corona as an excuse. This mad lad continued his work n push it on time while battling cancer in a hospital with even telling anyone. I literally pre ordered end walker after this just to show support

  16. Imagine loving the project so much and giving 200% to give it the love it deserved and being indirectly responsible for the heavy workload on all his employees, his best buddy with cancer in a hospital room during corona included. If Soken didn't pull it through, then I wouldn't even imagine how awful and heartbroken Yoshi-P must feel. Passion has a price but it shouldnt be the lives of those you hold dear. Cheers to the devs

  17. YoshiP knew about it and that fact hurt him even more because he was friends with the creator of "Dad of Light" who died from cancer. He was afraid to lose his best friend too. For a lot of people (like me) this was their very first fanfest so everyone was just bawling their eyes out everywhere when they heard the news.

  18. Well, many comments say it but Yeah, the devs really love their game at the point of playing it on regular accounts, like you, me or all the players and they are good too, I thinks the fact they test and do the raid inside the dev team before release them help a lot to improve while playing but being good without liking the game is impossible so they geniuly love it.

And Yes, the 1.0 (who can't be accessed today) was a total failure who almost lead square enix in bankruptcy, even the CEO did a public apology (yeah, it was this bad) but the change of team (it was another team who did 1.0, Yoshi P (the director) come up at the end of 1.0 to end it rightly (with the greatest fire History knew: Answers Cinematics (and yes, SE was almost in bankruptcy when they did this cinematics, they were totally insane) to wipe all the world and do a new game) and do a Realm Reborn untill today so yeah, telling it's a miracle to transform a such failure into a great game is not too much

And yes, indeed: Soken is really the greatest hero this game had, composing masterpiece from an hospital room, asking to not tell the rest of the team to not be treated differently (also, the fans really loved the song when they tell it because, well we didn't know either so he has saw we really love his work and himself) and above all win against the cancer, Yeah, for me he's just a Hero

  19. To give you an idea of how dedicated they are: even with the coronavirus pandemic since they couldn't come to work, they spent money setting up a way to access their testing server remotely and in the end, they only had roughly 3 month delay on content.

  20. It's not wierd, the reason why I want to play FF16 is not because it's another FF title but YoshiP, the director for FFXIV will be directing that game too and Soken might be the music producer. The team deserves the best, I know mmo's tend to fall off the grid for awards compared to other games and I want FF16 to explode.

  21. The FFXIV Devs are the best. They care about their fans and they like to have fun with us. Memes and Shit posts are loved by them and they listen to our feed back. I've been playing for almost twenty years now I think and this is the only MMORPG that I think I will ever play because of how the devs treat players and most of all because the community of players within FFXIV is just so welcoming and helpful. Sure we have some toxic people and I hear there's one server that should be avoided because of toxic people, but over all the game is just one people can throw themselves into an be happy about. Everyone should try FFXIV at least once in their lives. Yes, it can be slow at first in the Realm Reborn area, but if you can stick with it to Heavensward you are bound to enjoy it and find friends. Chat alone in game can get pretty fun if you pay attention to it. Those who've been in the Diadem during the restoration know what I'm talking about.

  22. The devs love this game & their fans so much that the art & animation department made the male Viera models in their spare time because they wanted to see if they could pull it off & give the community something they've been begging for.

    These guys are legendary.

  24. I always love that with the Final Fantasy XIV team and their culture. The bow at the end is in respect to the player to thank them for playing their game. They acknowledge that without the player, there would be no game.

  25. Just compare the people working on FFXIV to the suits running WOW just for profit and you know which game to support. You'll learn to love Yoshi P!
