From Warcraft to FFXIV – 6 Weeks later – #FFXIV #Warcraft

It’s been 6 (or 7 weeks) since we swapped fully from Warcraft to FFXIV. Here’s a short list of things that either shocked me or I noticed for differences.

  1. I can't say I have much of a culture shock in the WoW to FFXIV sense, but before I played a really grindy Korean F2P MMO.
It was a shock that levels weren't insanely hard to get, the story was great, and that I didn't need to grind for every little thing.
I got burnt out on events (month long grind fests build on 'the fear of missing out') and almost disregarded FFXIV events due to it. An FC member told me to give it a shot, and then I found it was just simple fun distractions.
This game respects our time, and I appreciate it.

  2. I've played this game since Heavensward launched which was around 4-5 years? I went into haitus(because life sucks) before stormblood launched and just got back now in Shadowbringers expac. And during my long haitus(which was yearsss) I've always think about my life in Eorzea, how I miss my Warrior of Light. To develop that kind of affection and attachment to your character… Is something special about FFXIV. It helps that you can do all classes and content in that one character. I just love that the most!

  3. So, we know that Riot Games is developing an MMO. I can't help but wonder how much they were taking notes from WoW and how much the sudden, massive success of FFXIV is going to cause them to pivot. I actually think they're generally a pretty smart dev team and this big shift in the market probably sledgehammered some of their initial plans. It's just neat to think about how the past couple of months have likely impacted games currently in development and how we'll probably still be seeing the results years from now. This is a huge moment for the MMO genre.

  4. Their stance on third party stuff is don't talk about, don't show it and we won't know you have it. So there is no mocking, harassing, etc of somebody because they aren't parsing at maximum efficiency, however those who want to use it for personal improvement you can as long as you don't chat about it. This is also the same stance as texture mods and filters used to make the game look better. They don't actively track it, but if you make it known you have it you can expect to get a ban or suspension.
I like how they implement Savage and Ex raids/trials into the story. lol

They are essentially enactments of the exaggerations Bards make when they tell your tale to the people making the boss seem more terrifying than they were. So you aren't fighting the same boss, you are fighting the boss as the bards describe them as.

  5. There's no problem in saying dungeons. Trust me when I say NOBODY is gonna get mad on that.

Because "duty" englobes everything. Dungeons, trials, raids, alliance raids, single player instances. So no one actually says "duty", just "I'm doing my roulettes".

And the hard modes you are describing are in the dungeon section of the Duty Finder, so, honestly, if ANYBODY gets mad at you for saying "dungeon", you are on your full right to say "Go f**k yourself".

  6. Having played only a few MMOs before; I'm always taken aback at what horror stories some of my friends have had for WoW.

If anything; I'm just glad a lot of new people are getting to play a game that respects their time (and other things).

  7. The main reason why addons won't be allowed is ps4-ps5 population of ffxiv. Ppl from wow tend to forget that it's cross platform game. And ps players just CAN'T use addons. So Square Enix won't approve this advantage for pc players.

  8. I feel like the only reason why I was able to give Final Fantasy a try is because I played some of the older games, and those were some of the best. Final Fantasy X, X-2, Crisis Core, Dirge of Cerberus, XIII, Dissidia, etc. overall the game did (and still does) feel very alien to me, but things like the blue diamonds that separate the different zones, the dancing cactus thing, the chocobos and the music helps to make the game feel a bit more familiar to me and it doesn't feel so off-putting. My first character was a gothic female au-ra hunter who is now a bard with lightning hair. and I just made a cat boy loosely inspired by Tidus from FFX.

  9. You C O U L D get a DPS meter… but you can only use it if you do not harass someone or gatekeep people based on numbers. Been using one for nearly 6 years. But be careful, because you the INSTANT those numbers are used to harass or belittle someone else, you'll be punished.

(Also, even IF you use them, don't let people know. And be safe, and turn it off while streaming.)

  10. I've been playing on console since the launch of arr, this game's community has exploded beyond my wildest dreams, I'm glad to have the refugees, despite what the monetarists think, it's good to have fresh eyes and fresh minds to expand the wealth of ul'dah

  11. I've played since 2.0 and I call them dungeons. I've never even played WoW. For the daily duty roulettes, I just call them roulettes. There's a lot of WoW refugees since WoD, this is just the latest and biggest refugee wave that I've seen though. So people understand when you call them transmog in ff14.

  12. 12:15 — Here, grab a popcorn and join the club (cleaning day is monday, dont forget it 😛 ). I can only sign that. When I decided to quit WoW I looked out for a game that would successfully fill the "void" WoW would doubtlessly leave behind. And I'm so, so glad FF14 was that game (I also tried GW2: I played that game since launch in Aug 2012, on and off, I have all the mounts, even the special ones, but it just isnt enough to cover up behind WoW… not for me at any rate…). It may not be as open world as WoW, but screw that. Yes, its not perfect, but I dont mind. Its enough for me. And I'm replaying Heavensward now, I have to do the Vault again and I'm thinking of reasons NOT to do it o.O

The beauty of this game is, even if you view yourself as DPS, Healer or Tank… it doesnt matter because every role is just super fun. Even if its not initial cup of tea, try it regardless and be pleasently surprised. I leveled all my job to 80, and it was one hell of a ride, one I can only recommend. Each job is unique, even if jobs of the same role are similar, they feel different. And you might never know if you're not a hidden Healer or Tank under your DPS-heart 😛 Personally, I prefer caster dps but hell, running up front pulling wall-to-wall, is so much fun 😀
