I am sorry to leave you hanging 😬😳 Tomorrow is the big day though! ✨🌱
Here’s an odd thing about FFXIV: content isn’t gated by level so much as it is by completing the main story missions (MSQ). Your level is high enough to unlock mounts, but you are far from the actual quest to unlock them, as you’ve several more quest to go. Most stuff is like this.
Also, you are not going to a dungeon just yet! And the dungeons are nothing to fear, as the community in FF is waaaaay better than what you are used to in WoW. I’ve played XIV for over a thousand hours and have encountered rude people in dungeon parties on only a handful of times.
The Bartz minion is a character from Final Fantasy 5, and the jokes come from the fact that his name was originally mistranslated as Butz (pronounced like "butts" lol)
I have never read minion or mount descriptions.. so that's all new content! 😀
Don't worry about dungeons. Some best experiences for me are from msq dungeons where players are lost and confused (myself included). All veteran players will understant if someone is new and they often cheer and teach new players until they get through! It's very rare to find toxic players in ff.. and usually people just laugh at them. If any player ever gives you negative vibes, problem is usually he/she, just relax and ignore. That took some time for myself to learn but after I understood that, it was much easier to jump new dungeons without worry.
Thanks again for cozy video!
Don’t activate the fantasia unless you want to change your appearance. Fantasias will take you back to character creation screen where you can change your race, gender, or appearance. I would save it for the future. Unless of course you want to change to the bunny race which you now have access to 🙂
You don't need to worry about dungeons, for the most part people are fine in them and all the years I've played I've maybe had a handful of nasty runs and that's 6 years now. Like I said before I (as I'm sure others will as well) will be more than happy to help you when you get to the dungeons and such, so please don't worry too much about those and just enjoy your journey. 🙂
The greatest tip for running a new dungeon is a simple text
"Hi this is my first time^^"
I can guarantee you. People will roll out the red carpet and basically be bodyguards for you with earpiece microphone and everything. If you write this as the very first thing in the dungeon.
As for what you have to do in the dungeon. Well as a DPS you press 2 buttons to begin with. Your AOE (Quick knock) and your sprint button (if the tank is also running).
Once you are at a boss, you use [Venomous Bite] Then [Bloodletter] and then [heavy shot] with the occasionally [straight shot] if it has a glowing border until the boss is dead (re-apply Venomous Bite if it's down doing the fight)
All AOEs from the boss' and normal mobs will be marked so you know where to go to not get hit
Are you going to play on stream sometime too? c:
You have nothing to worry about in dungeons. You can play with NPCs, which is great for exploring and learning your rotation. Or, if you choose to play with others, state "This is my first time." Everyone will be accommodating, and more than likely will explain boss mechanics. FFXIV was voted best community for a reason. Most people are quite lovely, as you've already experienced. Happy Gaming Cozy.
Even if you're nervous/afraid of playing dungeons or raids, please do try it out in this game. The community is way more helpful and kind as in your previous game, I am sure you will be alright! Even more so when you say in party chat "Hi i'm knew, please bare with me" or something like that, it's 98% always polite people replying not to worry 🙂
I love that you get so immersed in everything, reading every line and taking your time with things.
It will not be pointless, I think everyone can promise you a great payoff, game gets crazier the further you get.
As for Fantasia, it would maybe be best to try and create a new character and if you do end up liking something else better, save the appearance and then load it on your main character, otherwise just save your fantasia, you'll get 1 more for free later on but after that, it's I think $7 a pop haha.
"Companion" is something that will unlock when you (eventually) get your chocobo. When you get the chocobo, you can see the barding options under Companion. About the mounts… you will get to it eventually… but prepare to do a lot of walking for the foreseeable future!
One thing I've always heard about the FFXIV community is that we are FAR nicer when it comes to raids and dungeons, particularly at the lower levels. Yes, you can run (most) MSQ content solo… Currently, there's still one expansion where you can't quite yet, but over the next year, even that one will be getting it. As Arromell said, though, there are probably people in your community (Me, for instance, if I happen to be on a character that has whatever you're doing unlocked and can get to where you are when you are playing) who would be willing to help.
(Hi, I have been playing this game since 1.0) The community in this game is very different from WoW. IMO, this is because of the FFXIV story. It is long and not for everyone. I keep saying to everyone, the MSQ is the endgame what comes after that is the other end game. The FFXIV story will "detox" players from what they have learned from other games, like WoW (I am vanilla player too, playing DragonFlight on the side).
Do you see the symbol in the game in front of your character name 'Lil Cozy'? It is called the sprout symbol. It means that you are a new player and other players that no longer have it, have reached the last expansion Endwalker or finished it. Your sprout symbol will stay for awhile and people will respect you as a new player, most players will even do much more for you just because of that symbol. Don't be afraid to go into dungeons, you have to, to play and finish MSQ. Make friends, play with them. They can always join you in any of the dungeons if they have unlocked that dungeon (by the MSQ). Their level and gear will be downscaled to match the dungeon.
Finding an FC (something like a guild as in WoW) and join it will help you. Keep playing, you have still so much to learn.. The story will only get better and better, it is 100% worth it.
Oh yeah. You will unlock the chocobo at MSQ level 20, remember that we always talk about the MSQ level, not your character level (that must be the same or higher than the MSQ story level to continue). To have your chocobo at your side in the world and fight with you, you will get that at level 30 (with a 'blue' quest). Blue quests are always more content unlocks, be sure to check them out. You can skip the normal quests, as they are just extras and some of them have very weird and interesting stories.
Just post a message your new when you load in, at worst; the healer will try to give you a heart attack by pulling you into an attack
what time do you play so i can log in and help or be a groupie XD
As people said, please don't worry about not being great in a dungeon or group environment. It's okay. If you feel comfortable doing so, you can tell the party "/p" "Hello all, I'm new. First time!" <– something like that. You may run into a grumpy person once in a while, but the vast majority are going to be excited to have you. Also if you want a little bit of practice beforehand, in the bottom right where all the menu buttons are, if you click the 2nd from the left (Duty), there is an option for "Hall of the Novice". These are a series of mini dungeon tutorials that try to help some basic combat mechanics in the game for your 'role' (you being a DPS as an archer right now). They are not going to cover
allmechanics, but having some familiarity from doing those might be that lift of confidence you need!I assume you know but just making sure about this. When you purchase the full game you have to pay a monthly fee to even play the game, so keep that in mind
I have tried wow during its new expansion but i had to leave it since its player base is… incredibly hostile
Of course those people exist in every game but in my almost 2 years in this game, i have maybe made one (1!) bad encounter. FF XIV really has a nice community.
Also… i like your choice of server, Alpha players rise up ^-^
