Finally I Speak out: Racism in FFXIV #ffxiv #gaming #racismingaming

I had to speak out about this.

I couldn’t take it anymore.

If I had let it continue in the community, it would do more damage while those sat idly by and did not say anything about it.

It was late at night and had enough of this issue.

I wrote an article on the sexism and racism I receive in this game due to the choice of playing a male Viera. People will be people, but that doesn’t give you or anyone indignation to pester my choice of the race (in my case, characters) I play. The stigma is real. The stereotype is accurate. It doesn’t mean I fall in the category.

If you’re having a bad day, take it out on some weights, or another outlet. When it comes to the games I love and enjoy, you will NOT run this 6’9 black man off. I’m no perfect man. I’m flawed just like you. But, the color of my skin doesn’t define who I am.

As such, this video was impromptu to speak out about what I’ve endured. I ask for grace on how I was nearly all over the place but regardless, I’ve made my point.

Square Enix, listen carefully: I am working on a documentary about my love for this game. It has brought me insane, incredible times and learning experiences as a gamer and even as a man. But, this needs to be addressed in the community. The trolling, stalkers, sexism, and RACISM, has to stop!

To the YouTubers/Content Creators: if you wish to reach out to me, you may.

To the folks in the comment section: please be respectful. If you have something positive to contribute, do so. I’m highly aware of the presentation of this video. It was produced out of sheer impatience for what I’ve endured. I was racially attacked and it has affected me a bit.

All I desire to do is create FFXIV content and enjoy myself in the game. Why is it this hard here in North America to have common decency?

  1. Speaking the damn truth. Too many people let FFXIV keep up a mask of innocence. It's no way that this started with wow's exodus. It's been everywhere even including the official forums. The official forum had a 200 page thread about how trans people shouldn't be allowed in the game. Mods didnt even delete it. This game's "great community" is a farce.

  2. Each person's skin color and life choices are what makes each of us unique and that is beautiful in my eyes people need to stop the harassment of others and just except that we all have a right to be different no matter what game we play or character we choose to play they need only be accountable for themselves and enjoy the work the devs have put into the game and have fun with others trying to do the same my hat goes off to you sir for speaking up on this issue.

  3. That's unfortunate. I've dealt with bullying for months in this community for not playing a certain way so I closed my chat and made my status, "busy" to avoid more interactions. It's really sad. I came to ff14 to cope after losing someone close to me and I had to deal with that. I've tried to believe that the community is good, but it's hard to grasp that with so much toxicity within.

  4. as a black woman who likes to rp and game im not a stranger to alienation or fish out of water experiences in the gaming rp sphere but i was genuinely surprised by how…i guess you could say blatant the ffxiv community is about non white people are treated. there are the more subtle undertones of downplaying the more hostile and unpleasant side of the fanbase with the "were so wholesome !" narrative that is largely pushed but there is also the overtones of black and asian features being fetishized by people not of that race while also outright alienating the irl players who are black or asian.

im someone who likes to mod and it is almost scary to see how outright racist and fetishizing people can be. from making dark skinned "chocolate bunny" vieras to overly cutesy tiny asian characters. but when you actually try to find mods that gave real black features or textured hair you find next to nothing. when you try to look for black players in those larger discord spaces for rp or modding you seldom find them. not because they dont exist but because they are silenced. after going out of my way to find actual black/asian players and hear their opinions a lot of people feel put off or outright disgusted by the language used about us in rp and modding spaces its really stressful

im just so glad you took the time to make this video and show that we wont be quiet about it anymore. i myself have put in time to try to learn 3d modeling so i can make mods for black WoLs and i look forward to all the black creators coming to make our own space in this fandom
