  1. I love the extreme version of this trial
She has an attract as well as a repel and the shapes outside the arena start as the ones we saw at the end of Dan's fight except each shape shows up twice in the sequence
    It's very fun

  2. There was a wonderful analysis by the Grinding Gear team about the visual storytelling in the Trial:

If she had started with the hot (har har) woman form she has in the second phase, it's more lustful. The fact that she starts as basically a bird in a dress, and pushing to this more attractive form shows the love she has for Tenzen. The painterly visuals outside the battle arena also sells that; this is what she wanted the world to be.

  3. Extremely tangential comment: Final Fantasy XII has its own Four Lords bosses! You fight a tortoise, a white tiger, and… an interesting take on the one auspicious beast we have left on the way up through its Ridorana; after that part of the story, you can optionally explore Ridorana's basement, and fight a phoenix. This unlocks a Hunt against the Shadowseer, a shadowy figure with glowing eyes not unlike what we get to see of Koryu at 23:18. It's basically a Four Lords boss rush, and might be my favorite boss in that game.

  4. 15:51 fun fact about this track! It’s one of the few Stormblood tracks that made it into the latest incarnation of the Theatrhythm series, Final Bar Line, for the Switch. It’s an absolute blast of a game and one I think Dan would enjoy imho. [hinthint]. Some spoilers do exist beyond that from Shadowbringers however (not sure if any Endwalker tracks have been added though. I know XVI has some now at least, but haven’t checked recently.)

  5. 4:29 Genbu refers to Durmin as "Heir to the legacy of Tenzen". That's the first we've heard of that. Until now Durmin was just Warrior of Light, Strong Mortal to Fight Gods. Whatever could he mean by this? 🤔🤔🤔
    (no spoilers in replies pls)

  6. 21:4822:25 Honestly, this whole questline's relationship to FFXI is kind of bizarre. Like, it's supposed to be an extended homage in the same way the Warring Triad line was to VI and the Crystal Tower line was to III, but the actual connection is relatively downplayed, with both Tenzen and the Lords having only superficial similarities to their original incarnations (heck, in XI they had absolutely nothing to do with each other and in fact were from two different expansion packs altogether).

I dunno, just something I think about from time to time.

  7. 16:40 I believe the voice actor for Suzaku is Bethan Walker, who also voices Alisaie! Something they do a lot for bosses and small roles like this is to reuse voice actors who already have other roles (for example, Susano shares a voice actor with Urianger!), and it can be kinda fun to try and spot the voices!
