  1. 16:18 this whole section here from Emet Selch is so interesting to me. It’s not only fascinating in retrospect, but also, I can clearly see this point as where my wol Gen really started understanding him even while vastly disagreeing with the methods. On the one hand, he very much understands wanting his original home back, but at the same time… he knows it’s destroyed and gone and Emet Selch is partially responsible. The strange and confusing notion of remembering any other old world doesn’t help matters either. There’s also the whole thing of Gen really not wanting to sacrifice millions just to restore a world he wants to return to, much less another that Emet Selch is alluding to. It produces a wild conflict of empathizing but also frustration at this man who sees himself as above the rest of the currently living populace across multiple worlds.

  2. Wait… those who survive the Rejoinings are stronger because they're more complete souls? Doesn't that mean that the Ascians were fighting an ever steeper battle from the start? I mean, each new WoL fighting back against the calamity as time passed would be more and more complete, more and more powerful, as time went on. So between that and the blessing of Hydaelyn, wouldn't they have inevitably been properly stymied by the time they got to like… 8 or 9 rejoinings? Then again, they might also have been arrogant enough to not consider that even a possibility.

  3. The sAssian angle is so good. I really want to see where this leads. Their methods are abhorrent (and by extention them and any result it would bring) but I don't personally think a rejoined existence and world gained via the right methods would be wrong.

  4. Playfriends, we've got some engineering to do. Fortunately, Durmin won't be doing any calculations. This is your spoiler free lore comment!

5:30 – … Okay, maybe Durmin will have to do some calculation. But it's not like determining multiples! Venmont Yards gave the town of Wright it's name, as it was once the home of the shipwrights working at Venmont. This is Kholusia's version of the Moraby Drydocks, but they've been in disuse since the Flood. After all, where would one sail these days?

13:55 – If we compare the titles of the Ascians to a legacy of an Academic Chair, I can't help but think of Emet-Selch being from the Theater Department. Probably specializing in drama.

17:10 – That's a big conditional there Emet-Selch. Surviving calamities isn't an easy thing, and Urianger's vision shows Durmin dying to Black Rose.

17:40 – Team Emet or Team Exarch?

19:30 – A century of solitude nearly undid Ardbert. While Emet-Selch can affect the world around him, he and his ilk have been at it for far longer.

23:55 – This Shoebill (which is a real bird) is in every one of these search sequences. It's a humorous little easter egg, but its scowly demeanor has lead some to joke that it's Emet-Selch's incognito avatar.

29:20 – I do like the conservation of NPCs. Tristol is put to great use here, giving us a familiar face that knows exactly how horrible Eulmore could be. This gives us a very quick understanding of what the town of Amity is like. They're all like Tristol. They've all been burned by Eulmore.

37:45 – Welp, there goes our recon drones. At least we've gotten a force estimate on Mount Gulg's defenses. The place is a literal flying fortress.

39:13 – No, Thancred, this isn't Final Fantasy 7 Remake, grappling guns aren't going to work here.

40:00 – I'm sure Carrie is pleased with the caffeine.

Next time: Reaching for the Castle in the Sky.

  5. I mentioned minions before (tiny creatures/wind-up toys that follow your character around) and wanted to mention another fun one: Wind-Up Dulia-Chai!

This clockwork toy perfectly captures the Chais' relationship IMO, featuring Dulia-Chai carrying a teddy-bear-sized Chai-Nuuz under her arm that flutily tries to wiggle free while she cuddles him affectionately.
