One reason I find this so funny is the fact that when they… stretch the limits of the face rigs, it feels like some Source Film Maker stuff. It just doesn't work so hard it's funny.

God my love for Final Fantasy Gilgamesh is of an unknown origin but nonetheless, I love him, and so I can confirm that he is canonically a world-hopping traveller in his search for powerful weapons!
It does also mean that his presence in Gladio's DLC in FF15 leaves a sour taste in my mouth because he is a very, very different sort of person there despite being literally the same person. Like it is kinda neat but he's barely recognizable if you ask me so it feels kinda like it'd be better off if he were more like an homage character
Godbert's comment of "Enough expository banter" is actually a line from Gilgamesh in Final Fantasy V, his first appearance (which also gives explanation for his further appearances in other games). I am sure it's not the only line they cribbed.
i kept hearing Durmin correcting Hildabrand under his breath, especially everytime he said vase (long a) Durmin would just say *sigh*… vase (short a)

its always funny to see Gilgamesh as the "funny" enemy, because my first exposure to him as a character was in FF8 when he just casually flipping BISECTS Odin lol

Having occasionally complained about how bad the storytelling has been, I must say these Hildibrand stories are far better than anything the MSQ line offered until now.

At one point during the Coerthas portion of the investigation, Ellie has a throwaway line "How hard could it be to find a large man dressed in red in Coerthas of all places?" This happened to coincide with my giant Roegadyn ass playing Red Mage in the full Gambler set from Gold Saucer, dyed appropriately for the class.
I believe for me that was the beginning of realizing that Hildibrand calls for the most ridiculous of outfits.
I do love this sidequest chain now. This is just the best comedy I've seen in any game that's not a comedy game first and foremost^^
Carrie's joke at 49:57 got a genuine guffaw out of me. I didn't even know I could guffaw.
