Yeah that is the WoL at the end of the trailer. The WoL always changes to a different class/job in each new cinematic.
1.0 was Archer
2.0 (ARR) is Warrior
3.0 (HW) is Dragoon

Yep! That Hyur in the trailers is always the insert for the player character. He's known in the dev team as Meteor Survivor, but the fan name for him in Japan I believe is Hirohoshi or something similar. Very happy to see this come out after ARR finished. I've seen folks spoiled by the intro to this cinematic before, sadly. Heavensward is right about where Final Fantasy XIV hit its narrative stride and found how it wants to pace itself. A lot of lessons learned here carry on throughout the rest of the game's lifespan.
This is the expansion everyone hails as "when it gets good."
It's also the one where most of the WoW players realize 14 isn't a dumb weab game lmao

Okay so I’m gonna hop on the discord bc I genuinely wanna see you go through more FF14, BUT ALSO to avoid spoilers of any sort Lolorito really does have THE most punchable face. Even other villains later aren’t as smarmy as him (except for one but he gets handled fairly quickly). Like yeah we may hate these future villains bc the writing is that good but that smarmy “can’t touch me” attitude sucks balls.
Can’t wait for you to try dragoon and maaaybe dark knight and Astro? They’re Ishgard related alright, I know you can technically pick them up the first time you visit ishgard but still 😂

A very important point to understand Ishgard current situation that the game never quite tell you : It wasn't always a frozen landscape. It used to be green plain as far as you can see with a warm climate. The 7th calamity wrecked the local climate turning it into a tundra in a very short time.
Are you planning to do Coils before you start Heavensward MSQ? If not, I HIGHLY recommend that you do. Both for the gameplay and for what the story of Coils does for the story as a whole

FFXIV used to be very ballsy. They weren't shy to show major plot in the trailer. They also had major plot reveal hidden away in the most difficult content at the time; the coils raid. From what I remember, less than 2% of the population was able to see that. Sadly, they don't do that anymore. But I suppose it's for the better.
I love all the small details in the trailer. The music is a great example. The female vocalist has a sort of radio filter on her voice while the WoL is making their way through the blinding blizzard, and then the voice clears up just as the snow subsides to reveal the Gates of Judgment.

A cool thing you could try is watch this trailer with the song lyrics after finishing heavensward MSQ, its very minor spoilery if u read the lyrics but its basically a song by the people involved in the heavensward storyline.

Since I don't see it mentioned in the comments there's a fnny tidbit to know about that cinematic, as you play through Heavensward you might spot that the dragons used in the trailer are… similar to another, which has a very important role that doesn't correspond to what's going on in the cinematic.
And that is because… The studio that did the cinematic was not provided the right dragon model, but I won't tell more than that, who it is is spoilers.
Yes, that hyur is your stand in, and you are now legally obligated to become a Dragoon. Drop your sword and shield and join the brotherhood of hopping potatoes! >:)
