  1. So a fun thing about the robots in Cuff of the Son and Burden of the Son is that they are references to Transformers, particularly the Combaticons, including their combined form.

    Brawler – Brawl
    Swindler – Swindle
    Blaster – Blast Off
    Vortexer – Vortex
    Onslaughter – Onslaught
    Brute Justice – Bruticus

Anyway that is the weird random reference in the middle of one the most fun ideas the game has ever had.

  2. Man, this story is a lot better than I remember it. I always knew the gobbies were fun and that there was a lot of bigness, but I kinda love Mide in her over the top melodramatic ways. It's not high art, but it's somewhere between funny and very endearing and it just gets the fundamental charm and appeal of female au ra.

  3. I'm really looking forward to the denouement, hopefully on Friday. Dan may have enjoyed Midas the most, but my favorite is the Creator. It's also my least favorite, but that has to do more with how tough it can be at level.

  4. Can't say I'm a fan of yet another FF14 villain being all "You may have defeated me, but it was part of my plan along!" but everything else about this raid is great.

  5. Lyrics again! This time for "Metal: Brute Justice Mode"! Similar to both Locus and Metal combined.

Snap, clink, crank, whirr, whizz, wham, boom

    Wheels, humsing, uplander, doom

Crack, thoom, snap, bam, bing, bangy, zoom

    Ah, nearsoon, firebloom, crimson, FOOM

    Stop dizzyheels of the wicked

    Defuse, pop! Debone, slup! Deflate

    (Brute Justics Trans-mode!)

    Twenty-two sectors tested

    Fragments in one direction

    Celestial noise detected

    Delirium unsuspected

Static tuned into reason (Falling back right into the system)

Time in the aether deepens (Who'll see you falling back to the end)

Transmissions blink uncompleted (Falling back right into the system)

Seven, two, three, two, three, send (Who'll see you falling back to the end)

Falling back right into the system

Who'll see you falling back to the end

When falling back is better than simply

    Falling back into pieces again.

If the saxophones didn't make this song like a fun tokusatsu show enough, the chorus of children shouting "Brute Justic Trans-mode!" certainly does

  6. As soon as the individual robots started aligning, I asked myself 'wait, are they gonna make like it's a 70s robot show?'

As soon as the trumpet riff began, I knew the answer was 'yes'.

  7. While A8 (Brute Justice!) and A12 (the final one) are definitely my favorite fights, the environment from A7 is perhaps the most amazing I have seen in the game so far. The reveal at 52:48 gets me every time.

  8. Today's Spoiler Free Lore Comment is going to have nothing to do with Durmin's adventures! Look, I'm discovering new things along with the rest of the Playfriends, I don't have much commentary to do with the episode's contents.

I guess since Dan talked about patch schedules, and Heavensward codified the patch release cycle for the game, we'll talk about that. Ever since Heavensward, the game has stuck to a schedule. In this list, I'm using the description of the patch numbers, with X standing for the expansion (3.0 for Heavensward, etc). This isn't set in stone, there are some adjustments as the dev team needs it, and minor patches are frequently released to address bugs & other issues.

X.0 – The expansion release, change in max level tomestones
    X.01 – 1st set of Raids (8 player content)
X.05 – Savage version of 1st set of Raids, addition of a new max level tomestone
X.1 – New MSQ, 1st Alliance Raid (24 player content), 1st Tribe quest series, 1st Custom Delivery quest series (Some of these may be deferred to patch X.15)
X.15 – Any X.1 content that may have been delayed
X.2 – New MSQ, 2nd set of Raids & Savage version, 2nd Tribe quest series, 1st of the Trial series, change in max level tomestones (8 player content) (Some of these may be deferred to patch X.25)
X.25 – Any X.2 content that may have been delayed
X.3 – New MSQ (Considered the end of the expansion storyline, except in Endwalker), 2nd Alliance Raid, 3rd Tribe quest series, 2nd Custom Delivery quest series. (Some of these may be deferred to patch X.35)
X.35 – Any X.3 content that may have been delayed
X.4 – New MSQ, 3rd set of Raids & Savage version, 2nd of the Trial Series, change in max level tomestones. (Some of these may be deferred to patch X.45)
X.45 – Any X.4 content that may have been delayed
X.5 – New MSQ, 3rd Alliance Raid, 3rd of the Trial Series, 3rd Custom Delivery quest series
    X.55 – New MSQ

Players knowing what to expect and the dev team working to a known delivery timeline have been attributed with the quality and reception of these patches.

  9. I couldn't believe my eyes/ears when the bots got ready to combine in that last boss fight. That was just… it was the single biggest smile this series has given me, which is saying something, especially in the midst of this incredibly entertaining quest line.

  10. My big problem with JRPGs in general is expressed perfectly by the Mide conversation at 44:00 – "I watched the man I love sucked into its core…." and then later, no one can put together than the 'He' she wants to walk with, the reason she summoned Alexander, was to get her love back, or at least his soul. She has to explain that to everyone, despite having essentially given all the context for us, the audience, to understand it. I get that maybe not everyone will pick it up right as she's saying it… but there's got to be a better way than having everyone act dense as boulders so she can spell it out. And that happens a lot. Or it feels like it does.

  11. I remember the comment about you enjoying the short segments before the boss and the inclusion of sometimes a trash pull or mini boss. Yes. Me too. I also enjoyed normal raids being full complex dungeons like in the binding coils. After this though normal raids are just trials with a sidequest storyline. Makes me a bit sad to see the distinction smoothed out of existence.

  12. (1:26:48) This is an interesting moment. Y'Shtola is saying things about aether that she can see. Cid ALSO has that sensitivity from his third eye, but not as much. She hands him the goggles that she wasn't using, drawing attention to her NOT needing them. File this with a few brief words in Matoya's Cave…

  13. – now i understand why Metal: Brute Justice Mode is the banger of a song that it is, that was amazing…. also i love that the limbs of Onslaughter were not used to combine into the other limbs LOL
    – i know is videogame scaling, but i wonder how much of the in-game dungeon compares to the Overworld Alexander arms
    – so considering what we know so far of Primals… yeah, Mide i got bad news for you
    – also it would explain why it went from Real Alexander's "future calculation super computer" to Primal Alexander's super glorified well… that

  14. I'm really digging how even in these side stories, the characters are interesting and not just ciphers. Mide and Roundrox have enough character time to make them fun and engaging, same with Gra'ha Tia back in the Crystal Towers.

  15. What are those blue glowy domes that appear in the Alex raid boss fights?
Where was "the bulk of their forces" protecting the core? There were no Illuminati the Burden of the Son raid until after it had been deactivated.
