Coming to this map, I thought this was going to be some bleak, boring, final stretch map. I found myself really enjoying the lore of all these different worlds, and the history of their downfalls. It really makes you wonder about life beyond our system.
Doing the Omega raids will help you to understand this zone a lot better.
Feeeels. So many feeeeeels. 🥺💚
More story here is told by Omega raid
I really liked what they did with the music in this zone. Especially the gradual layering in the background over time.
Now here's where Ultima Thule starts losing people, narratively speaking. At this point none of the following is spoiler, but it is crucial to keep in mind to understand why things are playing out the way they are:
Venat gave you one last enchantment before she faded away, her gift to your crystal. Azem's Crystal typically pulls out champions from other worlds, or transports them across the same world, to assist in a battle. It cannot pull on the dead, however. At least, not to fight. This was dabbled with back in 5.3 against Elidibus at the Crystal Tower.
The last enchantment she gave you, those blue sparkly energy bits, in her words "gives form to the formless". Basically, it's a wide scale multi rez spell. Like Y'shtola said, since everyone isn't technically fully dead, you can use that gift to bring them back from this sacrifice. So, why worry? Why have any sad feels as they leave you one by one?
Because you can't bring them back. If you bring back Thancred, the ground he created is gone. Estinien, the wind and air will be gone. Y'shtola and Urianger, the pathway they made to that next civilization. Venat warned you this enchantment will not last forever, so basically you only get one shot of it. Your friends are right there, you can literally bend your knees, touch the dirt, and feel that Thancred is right there helping you.
But you can't save him. Doing so would doom you all. That is why this hurts so much. While trapped within this realm of despair, you have the power to literally call upon the fallen and you still can't save them. Meteion has had an eternity to plan this out, and for all your absurd power, you are still at her mercy. Worse still, the clock is ticking. The Scions cannot maintain Ultima Thule for long.
Lastly, as you saw by Estinien and Y'shtola, by this point your team is just as genre savvy as you are. They are aware of how their stories are likely going to end, but they have so much faith in you, so much belief, that they accept these fates. You have three Scions left, do what you can to protect them. You made promises to Tataru, Krile, Forchenault, and many others that you and your friends would return.
Keep that promise.
If you're looking for the Mini Ea minion (assuming you don't hate them now xP) you can get it from the Shared FATE/Bicolour GemStone vendor in the zone. It should become available for purchase after you level the area up once. And if you've fallen in love with the zone music like most people have, you can get the Orchestrion Roll for that from the same vendor by levelling the zone up all the way.
This one is a hard road. Such a unique, beautiful zone and the music <3
48:55 Yup scientist making stuff without properly implementing risk managment, glad the latest virus in real life has became weaker than we thought. Always a train wreack in fix other people mess
After Y'shtola & Urianger it was clear I wasn't taking anymore breaks on the story train until I resolved it. Cut to 3am and just drained.
As others mention, doing the Omega raids (The raids released during Stormblood) will explain more about the dragons and its machine invaders. Also during the MSQ for Heavensward or ARR Midgardsomar mentioned the same story that Estinian recounts before he disappears.
I have a ton of stuff to say about this part, but not until you have finished
