Love FFXIV, and good to see you finally review it after the big festival stream from a few days ago. Obviously the characters and locations might lack context without a wiki's worth of text, but know that each of the songs present are big callbacks to previous expansions: a playbook of leitmotif mastery.
I know MMOs are a pretty heavy time sink, but if you ever decide to do a playthrough, know that it'd be as grand a story as any of the other main games; and no doubt you'd find no shortage of fans who will help you get through that grind. 🙂
Craziest trailer ever
Y’shtola ❤️
Not gonna lie after playing this game for the past 8 years this trailer got me feeling a little emotional. Endwalker is actually the ending to the storyline that has been going since the game launched. The storyline will end after 10 years and 4 expansions
I’m a little sad that you don’t know all the references of 10 years of the game through 5 expansions (counting A Realm Reborn) and each theme song
(Every long time fan starts screaming about Estinien and Sharlayan)
The endwalker expansion isnt the end of the game, its just the end of the current arc.
Best trailer i have ever seen. I just have to come back for the last minute part over and over again. Such an epic end.
Some very big spoilers below for any newcoming players/anyone interested in starting the game. But if you're interested in what's going on, I put some details there. If you're interested in checking the game out, know that there is a free trial for an unlimited amount of time in-game, which grants you access to the base game AND the first expansion. That's basically 120 hours, probably doubled if you're trying to do every little thing.
To fill you into the story a little bit, the world is coming to an end and we, the good guys, have to stop that from happening. Our player character is represented by the brown-haired man with the sword and shield. The bad guy who looks like Sephiroth is called Zenos, and his only motivation for letting this happen is for him to be able to fight us again, since he lives for what he calls: 'The Hunt'.
We have to fight him and the beings known as 'acsians', the purple-robed person behind Zenos is one of those. Our player characters are the 'Warriors of light', disciples of the god Hydaelyn, whilst the acsians are disciples of her opposite, the god known as 'Zodiark'. The ascians mission is to basically destroy as many of the 13 worlds (we live in The Source, the 7th world if I'm not mistaken), to cause an imbalance and resurrect their god, because it will bring their own world, that was destroyed long ago, back, also bringing back those who sacrificed themselves to keep the chosen 'ascians' alive, aka their family, friends, loved ones and just general population. We cannot both save our world and it's people AND help the ascians with bringing back their world however, so we need to oppose them if we want to survive.
Hope I didn't miss anything important or made any mistakes, but that should basically be it. o/
Hey! I'd like to give some insights about the music and characters in this trailer:
From 1:22 – 3:11 you can hear the title theme of this upcoming expansion. Lyric-wise, they deal with the story reveals from the latest expansion "Shadowbringers", in which our view on our arch-enemies fundamentally flipped around, up to a point where there is no "good" and "bad", only grey areas on both sides. Pretty cryptic, but I want to avoid spoilers where I can.
From 3:11 – 3:43 you can hear a reiteration of the title theme to "Heavensward", the first major expansion that came to FFXIV in 2015. The Character with the lance you can see there was introduced in said expansion and resembles our adventures we had in this expansion. They became a good friend to the player along the way, and they fight with us as an ally during the final days you see there.
From 3:43 – 4:19 you can hear a reiteration of the title theme to "Stormblood", the second major expansion from 2017. Both characters you see there are actually villians introduced in that expansion aside from our arch-enemies. They make a return in "Endwalker" as antagonists, these two seem to have brought the final days.
The Song from 4:19 – 4:45 is a remix of a song in the game called "Torn from the Heavens". This is a boss music theme introduced with the Launch of the Game and is reocurring throughout all expansions. In the community, this theme is also considered to be the theme of us, the Warrior of Light, breaking their limits to overcome any trial we may face. The two characters you see there are two of our closest allies and friends which are there from the very beginning of the game.
At 4:45 – 5:16 they introduce another yet another new theme, supposedly resembles the city and folk of "Old Sharlayan" you see in these seconds. We heared a lot of these folks in the game, but we get to visit their main city for the first time in Endwalker. They are rather isolationist and prefer to stay that way, as you can hear later in the trailer. The character introduced in this scene was introduced in the base game and then didn't appear again, only to make a grand entrance back in Shadowbringers. Yet again, an ally and good frined to us.
A sudden muscial jump at 5:16, only lasting to 5:27, the singer recites one of the strongest line from Shadowbringers title theme: "One brings shadow, one brings light
– Two toned echoes tumbling through time." Yet again a reminder of what happened in Shadowbringers.
From 5:17 on the music keeps the endwalker motif until the end.
At 5:28 the woman in black is another of our closest frined and ally, one of the "scions", being there from the very beginning. She tries to convince the sharlayan folk of aiding us in defending the planet against the final days, unsuccessfully as you can hear.
At 5:51 we get a glance back at one of the villians from Stormblood, being the antagonist for Endwalker again. Here, with the scythe, a new playable class is revealed, which the antagonist turns into.
6:24: This character is the standard resemblance of the player character, the Warrior of Light, fighting a monster we already know pretty well, which was introduced to us in Shadowbringers plainly as "The first beast" or "The first Doom". We had a Dungeon, in which we get to see the so called "Final Days" that are upon us, with The first Beast appearing in there, so we may or may not know what to expect.
This is the most brief breakdown i could give of the music and characters. After all, with Endwalker, they end a saga that has been told to us the last 10(!) years.
Also sorry for my english, i'm not a native english speaker lol.
Aussie servers confirmed at least, but I don't have any issue on US ones anyway.
Also look up Soken and his recent ordeal, and see how he wrote amazing music from a very dark place.
This expansion appears to have a number of references to FF4. (I.E. MC was a dark knight in the last expansion and has since switched to paladin, MC goes to the moon, You can buy the spaceship from FF4 as a mount, etc)
Its understandable not diving in to the online. It is very time consuming especially for some of us but I am appreciative for FF14. It’s been going on for so long and the story is so insane.
The trailer included remixed music from every expansion which really adds to it being the coming of the end of this storyline
you will get tons viewer if you keep upload about contens FF XIV. and i dont know why youtube brougt me here XD
Y'all noticed how the Warrior of Light looks EVEN MORE PISSED than Shadowbringers?
It's not going to be the final, final one Dean. It's only the final one of this story arc, which has spanned several expansions now from 2013's 2.0 release A realm Reborn (and also technically the defunct original 1.0 version from 2010) up until this falls 6.0 expansion release (Endwalker). They are still continuing on with more story afterward but there will be new villains and new everything as we know it will definitely change narratively. There will be a 7.0 expansion in the next few years and more to come beyond that as well so great cinematics like this wont go away.
That bit where you thought it they were holding off on a character reveal, it was actually the weapon they were holding off on revealing as the weapon was the trailer tease for the new melee dps class that ffxiv is getting. Also want to say hearing you call Sephiroth a punk nearly killed me because how of true it is.
Most powerful guy in the world, looks like a punk…I mean, you’re not wrong. Doesn’t stop my character from being obsessed with him in the same way he’s obsessed with her.
Dude check out 14!! It’s a great story game!! If you like ff stories then you would love this game
If you've played other Final Fantasy games, might be interesting to know that FFXIV is actually designed as a standard entry first and an MMO second. With the exception of story dungeons, it's a solo story experience and each expansion is essentially aimed to be equivalent to a mainline Final Fantasy play length. You can play most of the game solo, using the Duty function to find other players to play through the 4 man/8 man/24 man content for a single time when necessary and then resume single player story again.
It's basically like playing the single player games and then when you enter a dungeon you have MMO aspect for your party members, then when you complete it you continue the single player experience (if that's how you want to play). There's tons of content for ongoing players to do, but a single player Final Fantasy fan could likewise enjoy playing through it.
Just note it's still a lot of time since you've got A Realm Reborn, Heavensward, Stormblood, Shadowbringers, and Endwalker (in November) each equaling a standard length game. So it's like 5 Final Fantasy games forming one long story. Endwalker will conclude that story at launch and the patch content (6.1, 6.2, etc) will be starting a brand new story.
Dive into FFXIV, it is basically a single player rpg with mmo elements.
I just found your channel, great content! I just came back from a year long break from ffxiv, I see its a good time to play again.
The story in this game is on par with the offline entries, if you're interested in playing, though you'll need to reach the first expansion for the story to pick up steam. There's no pressure, and you can play it at your own pace. If you're looking for an Aussie-friendly server, choose Tonberry, or wait for the Oceanic servers to roll out later this year.
The expansion goes live, Nov 19, 2021 for early access.
Here's what's happening in Final Fantasy 14 Endwalker: The World is on fire. Demons are breaking dancer land; big dragon and his new dragon knight buddy Jump into action. The new emperor, the former emperor's violent son's empire is in ruins and is also on fire. There's a passive nation of scholars, sages, and smarty pants sitting idly while the end of the world is happening. And we're going to the moon!
it wasnt a character reveal they were going for, the main baddy, blonde dude sitting on the throne like chair watching the world burn, changed his weapons, it was a weapon reveal, we've been waiting months for zenos to show us his scythe and we finally get to see it
god you have grown so much since i first saw your channel, like damn, u have a new intro, icon and link your social media nowadays
i started with ur league but if ur reacting to ff14, oh im up for a ride
So much stuff from Final Fantasy IV in this expansion, especially the moon- and if I see a Fusoya, I'm going to freak out, he was my favorite character in IV!
When this trailer debuted at fanfest, I was literally awestruck, the Heavensward part literally brought tears to my eyes.
It’s so much deeper then that my friend I highly recommend you hop to n as a fan of the series.
Glad to see you react to this
I enjoyed your your other FFXIV reactions
I'm not quite sure why but ive just been delving into other people's reactions to the Endwalker trailer. Many walks of FFXIV life from those who have never touched/heard of it, those who recently joined as Warriors of Light, and those who have been with the game for years, some since its inception 10 years ago. Always different takes but it honestly makes me smile seeing the wonder and bewilderment that people experience. When a trailer like this can give such a powerful response to those who know nothing of the game as well as more so to those who do, well you know the dev team is doing it right.
I am one of those players who joined FFXIV near the release of the latest expanse, Shadowbringers. It's been a bit over a year now I think but I've put thousands of hours into this game, play it practically daily (at least for a little bit just to socialize), am doing the hardest content the game has to offer (im talking months to finish a single fight called Ultimate fights), and have found a family of people I've never meet IRL who mean the absolute world to me. To say this game has touched me is an understatement.
I've been blasting this trailer on repeat since both the teaser and full release and literally tear up every time. I honestly can't wait until Endwalker comes out and I turn into a crying mess for a week or more again (ShB ending got me man). Really can't emphasize enough for those (even those who don't like MMOs traditionally or think they have the time for them) to try the game.
Even better considering the free trial now goes up to the level cap of level 60 and includes the critically exclaimed expansion Heavensward (which is really where the game turns everything up to 1000% and get REALLY good) as well as unlimited game time during said trial. 😜
you are so cool man
When I tell people my FFXIV came on a disc they think I'm joking, the first time I ever downloaded it was when I got my PS4 years ago I had to play it on both PC and console, now recently I redownloaded it on my PS5 and man I don't know if I want to play on PC or PS5 cause they both look the same now graphically. Actually the ps5 4k looks better IMO
The best part is how the narrator is a villain from earlier.
a tua reação e de um enterro que M….
Yeah, this trailer was definitely rendered differently to the teaser which is why it looked so much better. Also, ffxiv is a final fantasy first, an mmo second. Definitely single player in a lot of instances like all quests aside from dungeons are solo. Also, the world domination/destruction is definitely one of the villains' goal because he's a nihilistic little shite (that would be dude in the red robe) – but blonde dude with the scythe? His goal is literally just to fight you, the warrior of light. All of the destruction is but a means to an end and he really, really wants to have that epic showdown. He's a weirdo but he is a villain who essentially grew up bored and the only thing that brought any kind of joy in his life was fighting the Warrior of Light. So yeah, our villains, or at least the forefront villains (since there's a lot more going on and it's longer and spoilery to say) are both crazy as hell.
I never made the connection between zenos and sephiroth before… two powerful bad guy with long hair.
Also FFXIV is really casual friendly, don't be afraid to try it out, a lot of people with families or that play once a week play the game. You don't grind endlessly to try to catch up if you miss a week or a month of content like in most mmorpg in this game, and there is a lot to it for different ways to play. Most of the game is done alone since its story focused too, so you can see it as a solo game with part of them being online ( dungeon , trial, etc. even lvl 71-80 dungeon now can be done with npc for a solo experience)
4:20 – Actually, it was the weapon reveal that they cut off til later. It's the weapon of the new class in the game so they were teasing it
Right now is a good time to test it out if you’re curious. Im a casual player and really enjoy doing dungeons and raids with others but like most folks have said, its plays like a single player with mmo elements.
Fun fact, the strongest guy in the world is the guy on the moon there. That punk with the scythe is just formerly the strongest.
Fun fact. The man with the scythe, Zenos isn't the most powerful person. That honor goes to the paladin in full armor that is affectionately called 'the derplander' by 14 players, aka the player character. As for history of 14…It originally failed. FF14 1.0 in a nutshell is a hilarious abridging of the situation. But 2.0 was the game's revival and its been a rocket upwards from there. If I'm incorrect or didn't explain something well…please let me know, I'm not the best with words. you have a sub though man 🙂
As a long time FF fan who has been playing since 7's release, and played 7,8,9, 10, 12, 13 and 15. I can tell you that I had the same opinion about playing an MMO FF, but it will shock you as to just how good the story is, and that you can actually play it more a less as a single player game through and through, except dungeons and raids.
It's pretty much impossible to do this trailer justice without giving horrible horrible spoilers for the game. The writing is good enough that it can survive being spoiled, but there is real benefit to having that first-time feeling of revelation and realization rather than coming into it knowing exactly what to expect.
Long story short: For the past 8 years (10 if you count the 1.0 launch), the writers have been building up an intricately-crafted, sweeping story about the struggles of natives and nations, of alliances and empires, of summoned false gods and manipulative shadowy figures whose goals were often unclear. The man in the cloak and armor represents the Warrior of Light (aka he's the stand-in for your PC), who has travelled all over the world, liberated nations, fought gods and monsters and armies and death-machines, uncovered the secrets of the ancient ancient past, and repeatedly saved the world from certain doom. With the expansion that just wrapped up (Shadowbringers), we have finally learned the true motives of some of our greatest enemies and then defeated them; now, the last vestiges of their forces have turned to nihilistic destruction, wanting to end the world rather than shape it to their own ends (like the ones we defeated in ShB). The Warrior and his allies are going to places like Old Sharlayan (the super pretty island place with all the marble columns and such) and the moon, to try to stop the blonde man with the scythe and his lackey, who will stop at nothing to destroy the world and while actively goading the Warrior into a climactic battle of literally godlike scope.
And yes, I know the above paragraph is long and vague. That's about as accurate and summarized a description as I could possibly give. This game has carefully built a world over the course of 10 years, never wasting any details, never failing to give players the chance to predict things and just enough evidence to foresee some of what is to come (while keeping a few shocking surprises in wait). Summarizing all of that world in a single paragraph is a bit like asking someone to summarize all of the Lord of the Rings after seeing a trailer for only the second half of RotK. There's so many allies and struggles and changes and world-elements that have come and gone, it's nearly impossible to explain any of it without being incredibly spoiler-heavy and long-winded.
But the developers have absolutely EARNED this conclusion. They've kept us players involved every step of the way since A Realm Reborn arrived, and they've crafted an incredibly interesting, satisfying story. That story will be drawing to a full, complete close when Endwalker comes out in November. After that, we embark on new journeys and start a new tale.
If it wasn't obvious, I'm so excited I'm practically vibrating in my chair as I write this. Endwalker is going to be one hell of a trip, and I'm chomping at the bit to experience it.
The Endwalker Benchmark trailer has released and is worth a watch! =D
