Final Fantasy XIV | Don't Rush to Endwalker, Take your time

With FFXIV Endwalker expansion almost upon us, I’d just like to reiterate the importance of taking your time with the game. This isn’t World of Warcraft, the content isn’t going to expire, take your time, smell the roses, enjoy yourself and the journey, don’t rush through it. This isn’t fast food, it’s a gourmet meal.

  1. I mean, I've been in the waiting room for months now, been levelling my crafting and gathering tho. That and slowly getting all my DoW and DoM to 80 too. Aaaaand clearing all the sidequests

  2. Rushing through everything to get to the newest sh*t is never good.
But I can't blame 'em for wanting to do it.
Seeing all the hype around Endwalker and all the bigger streamers/influencers in general basically 'speedrunning' the MSQ to get to Endwalker in time is a terrible influence.

And here I am, having problems with perfectionism and anxiety before every new dungeon or trial I have to get through to finish the MSQ and being absolutely crushed if I make a single mistake…
All the mechanics that easily kill you if you f*ck up don't help one bit.
It's actually made me resent group content in the game and is actually driving me to quitting the game right now.
Of course, you might see this as a 'you' problem, but the game does force you…

  3. I'm currently in the patch quests of stormblood and I'm loving this game it's a great game that should not be rushed and I'm only hope is that I make it towards shadowbringers before endwalker comes out.

  4. The raids are great in ff. But if that's all I was playing for I wouldn't be playing ff. Skipping the story just feels like you are skipping the thing that makes it unique. The entire reason for it's popularity. Just kind of wasting your money at that point.
People are free to do it, but I will never understand it.

  5. I think the cast majority of people who come to this game wanting to powerlevel through it end up realising at some point through the story that you shouldn't do that. I did. In ARR I was skipping the vast majority of cutscenes, I think the first time I paid attention to any of it was the first cutscene that gives you a warning to set time aside to watch it right at the end of ARR. It grabbed me in Heavensward, and I slowed down and loved it.

  6. I'm at the point where I can do endwalker msq, but also I never did any of the raids beyond the arr alliance raids. I was gonna do them before endwalker through duty finder but apparently no one does that so I still haven't touched them lol

  7. I think FF14 is supposed to be experienced in a slow manner, by reading everything, strolling about taking in that atmosphere, etc. …
But also, why the hell do some people care about how other players want to experience the game? That gatekeeping is pathetic beyond words.

  8. People tend to miss that a lot of the reason many people rate shadowbringers so highly is in part due to the road to get there. Sure it can be enjoyed as a stand alone experience but its so much better if you've been following the story up to then too

  9. As someone who went into FF14 with the goal of doing every Raid wing, Every EX trial before I move onto the next expansion…
It really has made me a better player. It has helped me appreciate the story more. FF14 is a game where you get out what you put in, and even just settling down to read the dialogue is just as valid. And if you wana do something similar, I do it on Crystal of all places. You'll find people to vibe with.

  11. I can't imagine skipping the story and raid logging FFXIV, the game has so much more to offer than just raid life. If all I cared was raids, I think I'd still rather play WoW and deal with the crappy systems and chores because at the end of the day WoW still gets 2x or 3x more bosses per raid tier and raid healing that's actually engaging. (Also Blizzard even skips the story for you if you missed 9.0, lol)

  12. Well said and it makes sense. WoW teaches you all the bad habits when it comes to MMORPGs where 14 unteaches you those bad habits. The fact that very little WoW players realize the biggest issue of WoW is…that the dev team has little faith in its set pieces lasting so they force the player to move to the new set pieces and rapidly discard the old.

In effect WoW and 14 are two diametrically different games. WoW specifically focuses on the player's Power fantasy, everything revolves around the player and their accumulated power. Even the systems emphasis on this aspect. Then you have meta builds and specific gear that one 'must' have. Only for that to be undone within a expansion sub-patch. FFXIV is mainly on setting the player up for a Hero's Journey. The gear and items collected help your player but the core of the game is your character being the hero. The builds, gear and even raids come secondary and in turn respect the old content. There's no rush because the character is on the journey, the gear you own is transitory (unless its for glamour).

  13. Caught up with msq a few days ago. When I'm not helping my freinds through, I'm just being a Diadem Degen and leveling my DoH/ DoL classes just enjoying the other aspects of the game. My freinds are wanting to rush through but I told them take their time and enjoy it slowly. the payoff for shadowbringers only hits if you play through it all.

  14. My perspective on story skipping is that if you haven't played through at least once, there are so many references to past events that will be completely lost. I've seen at least two people who boosted and then regretted it because they didn't know WHY specific events were important, or how this character came to be as they are. Fortunately if you DO find yourself regretting a story skip, New Game + is available and highly recommended to find out how specific events unfolded.
