The problem people really run into are Healers tunneling the boss and not doing their REAL job: to keep the party up.
I've had healers not use Esuna, not use Rescue, not move out of AOEs, not pre-heal for raid-wide damage events, not immediately Swiftcast a rez when the tank dies, etc. all because they are tunnel-visioned on the boss spaming their two damage spells.
Far more likely to cause a wipe than not DPSing enough is not doing the core job properly. I've had healers let me die when tanking an Alliance Raid boss multiple times because they tunneled the boss. I've had healers let me die as a dungeon tank because they didn't stay in light of sight despite telling me to pull Wall To Wall. I've had healers run from the group multiple times with a stack marker even after telling them what it is and how to deal with it because they were on autopilot and tunneled.
Healers are not Green DPS. DPS is secondary; keeping the party up is what justifies their existence, and it is long past time to openly drag them on the carpet when they fuck up at their job. Better a healer that doesn't DPS but keeps the party up than a tunneling twat that lets the party (including himself) die- another thing I've run into a lot as of late.
