  1. On topic of gathering latex irl. Here's a short description from wiki article, but you should totally look up some videos on it:

Rubber tapping is the process by which latex is collected from a rubber tree. The latex is harvested by slicing a groove into the bark of the tree at a depth of one-quarter inch (6.4 mm) with a hooked knife and peeling back the bark.

  2. I first played ARR back at launch on the PS3 and one of my more fonder memories was grinding for my Chocobo. Back then when you joined an Alliance you didn't get 1400 seals for free, you started from 0 and the License wasn't 200 seals it was 2000. I would wake up early in the morning before school and grind out company leves at the Hawthorne Hut for days until I finally was able to afford one. Launch ARR had a lot of issues and the loading times on PS3 took eons, but I always remember back on that grind fondly, really made me appreciate my Chocobro. Also not to talk down to that Arcanewolf guy, but we 2 shot Ifrit, we wiped to the nail once and then killed it on the next run.

  3. I think ARR quests got culled more than once. I wasn't keeping track, but I swear there's been like, 3 times.
Edit: you then talk about how you wouldn't mind wiping occasionally on story bosses. That's happened to me on some of my first time playthroughs, but crucially it was shortly after the launch of the xpac or patch, when gear levels weren't at their max and most players were going in with fresh, unspoiled minds. The later you arrive to the content, the less likely you are to encounter difficulty like that though. Even a week (because weekly resets on tomestones) after launch there's a small but noticeable chance you're the only new players in the instance, and if you're particularly unlucky you might spend half the trial dead and trying to understand why, while a group of experienced players essentially finish without you, which is kind of the worst of both worlds.

  4. Hi there, this was a good one. I plan on resubbing and getting into more than before after following along again and dabbling in the controls on a fresh account. You mentioned that the earlier dungeons are easy, but I remember going through them the first time, loving and enjoying the party roles. As a tank, it felt intense to be the one to initiate combat, and being new, it was fun. I enjoyed the comparisons and talking points regarding GW2 and 14, many things, but I am happy and enjoy your enthusiasm for FF; it's contagious :D. I've recently rewatched your dedicated video, which was excellent while trying to figure out what to get into after wrapping up another genre/game. I hope you are rewarded for your efforts, and it enables you to continue to follow and make content for whatever game you want. Cheers man. Catch you in a day :D.

  5. I have to disagree with the one chatter talking about the game not teaching players enough therefore the Nail story making sense to them; even if you are a new player to video games, or come from text based DOS games only I don't buy it. If someone in your group said "hey, target the nail the next time it's up!" and the new player still doesn't do it it's not an issue with the game but rather an obvious issue with the player.

The player being able to target the boss and press damage buttons means they can target monsters period, so they should have no issue targeting one additional enemy after being reminded to do so.

  6. I'm guilty of not having paid much attention to the early dungeon lore prior to this lp, the story of Haukke Manor finally sunk in today. Aside from loving the dark edgy tone, I also adore the "domestic", relatively low-stakes nature. Yes there are ~demons~ and maniacally laughing villains, but it's a local threat, which makes it feel like a classic mmo adventure to me. Knowing where the story goes makes me appreciate these halcyon days where the wol's a nobody basically just messing about.

  7. Stay away from that ffxiv discussion subreddit folks. NO ONE in that sub is happy with anything in the game but…. Still log on every day. Take opinions from that sub with a grain of salt y'all
