Yet another BANGER video from our boi Rep-Rep
FF16 will likely be a success even after the interview. I do understand however the difference between a T or an M can be the different of mommy and daddy buying it. For me personally at this point, the hack n’ slash combat with more mature themes can make it more interesting to me. FF12 was my jumping on point, FF: SoS is likely going to be up there for me with games, but that is it… I will have to wait a long time for this one. I thought about FF Type-0 however that gameplay looked to out of place for me. The most I might do is FF15 maybe… Anyway the dance between how much blood you want in the game and T and M rating is something AAA studios have to do for a bigger and broad audience…
CHAOS
Speaking of blood we need a Bloodborne remaster 😏
I don't think a mature rating is necessary to tell a mature story. For me, the minimal use of blood didn't hold back the storytelling in FF7R at all. For example, watching Barret's raw emotional reaction to the disaster in Sector 7 conveys the sense of tragedy far more effectively than a pile of bloody bodies would have. That said, I agree that blood and other "mature" content can heighten the intensity of a moment if used well. FFXVI seems to be a very violent story about war and revenge, so it might need more graphic content in order to portray those themes convincingly. In any case, I think it's great for Final Fantasy as a series to be able to explore different tones and styles of storytelling through XIV, XVI, and the VII Remake series.
Overall, I'm pleased with the direction FFXVI is taking. I enjoy some of the quirkier FF games, but it's nice to finally get one that really goes in hard on more mature themes. Type-0 was, to me, an unfortunate mess even though I enjoyed a lot of aspects in that game.
The opening cutscene came across as very mature, realistically violent, and emotionally raw. Unfortunately, after that opening moment, it seemed to devolve into anime tropes with a bit too much cheese. The overall experience didn't seem to match up with the tone it created from the outset.
good video I sub

I hope that is a beheading and be see the head lying on the ground in that scene with Joshua lol..thats truly gonna show how far they went
i know what you mean by bleeding into ff7s final part, but given that they have broken away from the fates they were tied to, that scene in the temple of ancients may not even happen now…
Who knows what final fantasy 7s final part will be. . No one knows that’s the beauty of it. They going to definitely change something up.
I just don’t trust Square’s ability to tell stories.
I really wished 7R made the game M rating. However, I understand that SE wanted to tap into younger audience. I get that as a business move but it definitely restricted what the creative team could do in storytelling. This was also the case of the then Versus XIII game that Nomura was developing. It’s great that XVI is the first mainline FF in the series that gets an M rating. I think SE realized that there’s still a huge market for mature games like the Witcher series which allegedly was a huge inspiration to the developers working on XVI. I’m still salty about what happened to Versus XIII / XV but I’m hoping SE as a company would have more mature games while also having a library of games that cater to the general audience.
After playing 14 this rating just feels right. I'm surprised FFXIV doesn't have a mature rating honestly. 🤔 I mean there is so much blood. The set up for Stormblood at the end of Heavensward alone is pretty bloody and the end of a Realm Reborn with its hour long cutscene…not to mention a beloved character getting an arm lopped off during one expansion. All this to say having the creator of 14 set loose on 16 it just feels right. He's been writing graphic scenes for so long. His stories are so in depth. The rating means nothing really. It's up to the parents to decide the maturity of their kids. Hell, if my 13 year old wanted to play it I'd hand them the game with my blessing. Yoshi P isn't about blood and guts and alcohol and sex for the fun of it. It depends on the people in charge of a game for me to judge it based on a rating. For Yoshi P there will always be a point.
This ratings dont mean anything youve got kids playin GTA V so whats the point.
The most ever sold RPG right now is The Witcher, and I believe that Square Enix seen that successful rate on a mature game that sold over 40 million copies just made SE heads turn. So I'm hoping for a mature game from SE. It's the same analogy with Nintendo, I grew up with Nintendo but they didn't grow up with me, it's the same concept with the FF series, and I'm hoping for more mature games in this franchise. Thank you for the video that was a great topic to think about.
Yeah no. You are reaching really far with a lot of your assumptions here. And the simple use of "blood" in a game doesn't have as "massive" an effect on the rating as you try to make it out to. Try again.
Honestly, I loved the use of blood in FFVIIR Intergrade, I wish they could give the future parts an M-rating, too, it would make certain story events even more heart-wrenching and/ or terrifying to experience. Funnily enough, the base Remake already had the basic equivalent of an M-rating in my country, so it's even more silly from my perspective. I love the risks that SE is taking and though I'm not completely sure about XVI's direction, I am willing to try it and make up my own mind about it.
…I had not thought about Remake getting a mature rating at all, and now I can´t unsee the whole horrible implications of the latter part of the remakes. Jesus. That would be… painful. Af.
