  1. You got to pronunciation right!
FFXIV is unusual in that they have the writers and translators work together to create the story instead of just dumping a pile of text on the translators and saying 'make sense of this'. This lets the German translators suggest fantasy German names. The game is written simultaneously in German, French, English and Japanese.

Everyone gets something familiar and something peculiar. French pronunciations await!

  2. Ummm are you getting paid for this review? I can’t get past level 20 since the story sucks so bad! I was so tired of listening to everyone just hang in there it gets better! Well I call bullshit. This is complete theme park game that stinks. The lag in the skills sucks and the tag target is so out of date anymore. Sorry it stinks!

  3. The voice actor's name is Sam Riegel. He plays Scanlan in both the Vox Machina campaign in Critical Role and in it's own show. And yes, he's VERY good at voicing people who you just want to punch in the face.

  4. Couple of things. First, yeah, Roegadyn names are just kind of like that. One subrace uses jumbled messes of letters for names, and the other uses descriptors of places and whatnot for names, like Shallow Moor, and as you experienced Curious Gorge. I like how they do that with all the races because you can typically know what race a character is solely based on their name.
The other thing is how fast you became a warrior, remember the job Crystal you got? It’s basically passively granting you knowledge on how to fight like a warrior, though your own strength still factors into your ability as a warrior hence needing levels for new skills.
If you bothered reading all that, welcome to the game, glad you’re having fun.

  5. Honestly hearing you hate on Alphinaud for being a pompous little prick is very funny because yes he is one of my favorites now but boy does he deserve to be punted in his first appearance. He becomes a LOT more likeable in Heavensward-onwards.

  6. Ah yes, the Marauder quests are pretty silly like that and the Warrior ones in Stormblood are just hilarious!

Are you planning on taking on any new jobs? With the ARR experience curve you're going to be super overlevelled by endgame. (Although I will say the level sync does stop that being too much of a problem.)

  7. First, yeah, Warrior pretty much is Conan the Barbarian. Second, which Grand Company you pick really has NO effect on the game at all (and yes, do complete your Grand Company hunting log do other stuff to boost your Grand Company rank; the higher your rank, the more stuff you can buy and the more of the Grand Company currency you can carry). Third, the twins really are annoying brats at this point in the game. First few times you chat with Alphinaud, he makes it look like he’s the big bad. He’s not. He’s just a sophomoric teenager who has a bit of growing up to do. And his sister Allisae disappears for quite a while, as she’s got a bit of growing up to do herself. But grow up they do (just never physically for some reason). And they become a pair of the most dependable friends you could ever have. But for now, yeah, they’re a couple of know-it-all kids who could use a knuckle sandwich.

  8. 17:52 Hey, I remember this. I wasn't part of the rave, though, I was sitting in front of the quartermaster crafting stuff. It was funny and a bit confusing, because I saw people showing up with glowsticks and dancing, but then I saw "[name] cheers on Caffeinated Dad" and was like '…*oh*'.

I'm so glad you're enjoying the game and looking forward to seeing more of your adventures in Eorzea 😀

  9. Alphinaud being a know-it-all is understandable considering both his upbringing and seeing as how saw the troubles of the rest of Eorzea mostly from a distance. Hell, he and Alisae start off not being able to understand why their grandfather sacrificed his life for such a harsh land

But, trust me, its part of an amazing character arc.

  10. Look, hating Alphi is part of the ARR experience, he is in the middle of his "just graduated at the top of my class, im smarter than you" phase…no spoils, but the humbling of Alphinaud will happen, and he will instantly be a much more likeable character (the VA change at Heavensward also helps him seem less insufferable too)

  11. Aww. Hearing about your daughter getting inspired by you is the most adorable thing! I love this for you. Hope my kid will be inspired by me to do something creative too one day

  12. A very good note….always take the Allag pieces as they are worth a bit of gil. You can buy better armor and you get better armor through dungeons. Especially as you level up you'll find out that High Quality armor pieces are inexpensive.

  13. If it's for the bit, all well and good, but if not… There's a quest in Vesper Bay near the Rising Stones that will let you unlock the Glamour system. You can make your combined armor look like a normal chestplate and still see your face.
