  1. This game really is a ride though, I do highly suggest it… even if MMO's aren't you're thing… it's a very good introductory to the concept really… and if you don't want to play with anyone else… the trust system is there

  2. The ugly Audrey 2 plant creature is called a Malboro and appears in many final fantasy games. It has an attack called Bad Breath where it exhales fumes that inflict a huge array of status effects like blindness, paralysis, poison, damage vulnerability, damage inflicted down, all at once. In some games it’s every debuff in the whole game. It has been speculated that they are named after Marlboro cigarettes because of the smoke and bad breath.

The squirrel in the game is called a nutkin.

In FFXIV you can have all jobs on one character. You switch jobs by changing weapons but you will also need gear. Most jobs level up separately and most start as a class. For instance you can start as a gladiator but at level 30 become a paladin. You can switch to an archer but it would then level 1. New jobs released with expansions start higher. The exception is arcanist starts at level one but at level 30 becomes a summoner (damage) and scholar (healer). They share levels so leveling one levels both.

  3. The way FF14 does the cinematic trailers is that they unveil it at the Fan Fest conventions. There are usually three of them every 2 years; one in NA, one in EU, and one in Japan….and each version of the trailer reveals more of the trailer. The third one shown in Japan is the full cinematic. And the playerbase instantly started calling this the "Beach Episode" expansion, after having had to deal with all the darkness of the previous couple of expansions. I have no doubt that there will be dark moments in this expansion as well though. But story-wise, this is the start of a new story arc for the game.

  4. The rugged, 30-something, "Assassin's Creed pirate" in this trailer IS the late-teens adventurer we see in the first trailer from 2010.

Your characther is the main-characther, so in trailers, this man is the stand-in for the players.

Also meaning that this is a realistic age transition referring to the players themselves.

  5. One of my first reactions was, that the Warrior of Light in the trailer gives me some Bradley Cooper vibes(face) and I also like how we'll see more of the Hrothgar, something other than wartorn Bosjza and ruins all over the place.

  6. Fun fact, the female singer, Amanda Achen, in the second part of the full trailer where they show off the painter job (also known as pictomancer) became interested in why so many people love the game that she started streaming her own play through of the game.

  7. Usual problem as majority of FF14 trailer:

Instead of using it to add to the story, it's just random nonsense.

Sad enough, that' still better than the other problem, when you think it's telling part of the story, but it's all a lie and got nothing to do with what is actually happening.

Never get it. Especially WoW, from which FF14 massively copy/pasted to save the game, after the desaster the first version was, showed how it is done and I'm not even talking about graphic or sound quality, but about how they quickly switched from a general trailer as the very first one and in big parts that of the first addon, to extremely impactful ones, starting with WotLK and all which followed.

But since Stormblood addon, Square is so focussed on miking the game, it's all about marketing and they seem to dislike or fear their own story and don't want to talk about it, so instead you get those random cuts of stuff, focussed on leaving you in the dark.

Can work – for a while, but after the x-th time falling for it, it mainly leaves a salty taste.

  8. If you guys are gonna play a final fantasy game I’d recommend 16. It’s got heavy game of thrones influences especially at the beginning and it’s the most visually stunning.

  9. May 16 the job trailer will be revealed which will includes all jobs displaying their new abilities (level 100). Then June 14 releases the launch trailer which is a completely different trailer that has story details and is more like a traditional trailer. June 28 Dawntrail early access comes out with the 2 new jobs shown in the trailer you watched here Viper and Pictomqncer. July 2 is the official release date.

  10. man, i would love seeing the two of you play this game together. 🙂 I won't be holding my breath on that. It's quite the time commitment. But this is the game that got me out of my depression and changed how I see life. It's amazing. <3

  11. When Final Fantasy 14 has been preparing for a new expansion, they have in the past revealed the traile rover time. They hold 3 "Fan Fest"s. Its a giant convention where they showcase the new content, hold panels, the devs, and producer, YoshiP all show up and just has a great big party. Theres concerts, costumes etc. First one is in LasVegas, they reveal a short first look of the new cinematic trailer. Basically stage 1. Stage two, Fan fest in London, we get a new longer trailer (thats the first dawntrail you watched in this video). It contains more content than the first trailer, but is still incomplete. The third is in Tokyo, where the full and final trailer is revealed.

The game started out with a handful of classes. Tanks: Paladin, Gladiator. Healers: White Mages and Scholars. Melee DPS: Dragoon and Monks. Ranged DPS: Bard. MAGIC DPS: Summoner and Black Mage.

They added new classes over time. and the information/reveals were usually done through the live panels with the devs, during these fan fests. In between the base game and the first expansion, the released Ninja, a new melee DPS. When Heavensward (The first expansion) came out, we got a new tank, Dark Knight, new healer, Astrologian and a new ranged dps, Machinist. When expansion 2 Stormblood came out, they did something new. The fanfests always begin by playing the new trailer for all to see, so they began revealing new classes in this way. This is how we first learned we were getting the melee DPS Samurai. We also got a magic dps, Red Mage, but it was not shown in the trailer, just announced during one of the panels. The 3rd expansion, Shadowbringers, we were given a new ranged DPS – Dancer, which was revealed with a new playable race as well in the trailer, the Viera (female only from ff12), when we saw the dancing Bunny woman clad in red. We were also revealed to a new tank – Gunbreaker (Squall from ff8) in this trailer. Shown in panels but not the trailer was the all Male, Hrothgar playable race. Expansion 4 – Endwalker, revealed a new healer – Sage. We also got a new melee DPS – Reaper, revealed in the same trailer. A new playable race feature not revealed in trailer, but in panels, Male Viera. And with Dawntrail as you just watched, we were given 3 new things – a new melee dps – VIPER (daul wield darthmaul realness), magic dps – PICTOMANCER, (paint picture magic fun times) and the addition of Females to Hrrohgar race as shown at the et with the large cat woman.

Basically these trailers meant even more to people actively playing in real time, because we were being told HEY THIS IS CANNON!

  12. I play a female human in this game, and I wear a princess dress glamour skin over top of my armor. So the story I tell myself for headcannon is my character is a princess of the area and she finally gets her obligatory anime beach filler episode after saving the world from nihilistic forces.

  13. Krile – the smalll one with painbrush is essentialy scientist, and part of our group, unfortunately she didnt really have any big impact, mostly helping from behind, so her having new class seems like she will have big impact on story

  14. The First trailer you showed for DawnTrail was the teaser they showed earlier. The last one was "full", also you should look up the Pictomancer job trailer for the second job shown in the last trailer. That last part where the lion girl steps out of the belows deck is a female Hrothgar, It's important because right now you can only play as male.

  15. The 2nd Trailer is the Full trailer the 1st was a teaser with some stuff edited out for when the expansion is close to release to not spoil too much for people playing the game

  16. This isnt the full trailer unfortunately. it's the 2nd out of the 3 they released, each progressing and uncovering extra bits and music having more layers etc. I'd recommend watching the full trailer. Ahhh, i didnt stick around after the trailer to notice you'd also done the full one too. Figured that was talking about it.

  17. In universe they have a species classification system similar to how we have 'mammals', 'plants', 'reptiles' and so on. They instead call them things like 'beastkin', 'seedkin', 'scalekin' with intelligent humanoids referred to as 'spoken'. All of this I only mention to point out that the little sugar glider or whatever it is, has been referred to with the non-existent classification of 'nutkin'. Or perhaps it is secretly so important that it deserves an entire tier of classification all to itself?

The multiple versions makes more sense when they are giving us a slow burn, gradually revealing new details with each promotional release, but I did feel kind of bad for anyone sitting through the multiple variations of that trailer in one go. It's easier to justify watching each one when they are weeks apart.

  18. For context, they release 3 versions of the trailer.

    – A teaser
    – A mini-trailer (where they tease 1 class or something about the expansion)
    – The full trailer that you see in game at the title screen.

  19. The 'squirrel" was a "Nutkin" and it's claim to fame in the series was appearing in a scene where one of the characters was naked and the "Nutkin" was strategically placed to block the view of their privates in that scene.

  20. For FFXIV, the teaser trailers and full trailers are just different variations of the same trailer. Launch Trailers are a totally separate thing. We'll see the Dawntrail Launch Trailer drop sometime in the next month.

  21. Would be cool if you would both give the game a try, and do not listen to the one troll in the comments.. the game is fantastic I have played for 10 years. Also think you would both enjoy going to one of the fan fests.
