  1. Yes. The series has been struggling for a long time now.
All sale numbers after FFX are way down. These games didn't meet the expectations both players and dev teams had. Compare that to the 2 decades prior where FF was a leader in the RPG genre. A setter of trends. Those times are long gone now. Their golden age is over. The 7 remake is making up for it a little bit. But even that one isn't coming close to the numbers they had before.
Just because the MMO has had a redemption arc, doesn't mean the whole series is doing well.

  2. The problem with that assumption is before people can stop thinking about online vs offline, the infrastructure for the internet and the services that use it in most of the world must become reliable. Currently even in the united states, we have a crumbling, ancient network infrastructure with constant service issues, much worse in some areas than others, and even in places like South Korea with very good networks and cheap ultra fast internet, service is not always uninterrupted.

Honestly for the sake of resiliency alone, offline and online need to always be seperate, and singleplayer games need to be playable offline.

  3. I agree with you Meoni about that FF14 has more single player experience that some other games.
I'm basically playing more by myself in it and enjoying it. Thats why i really was happy when they released ng+, just replaying the story again, listen to music and meeting all of thous amazing NPC's are fun 🙂

  4. FFXIV being an mmo gives it a big advantage when it comes to making changes as its always being paid for meaning they can still actively work on it, a one and done release however is an extra expense to modify which in turn could lose money and make it not worth while.

  5. I'm just kinda expecting the Riot MMO to be the next BIG thing in MMORPGs, just based on the solid foundation they have to build on and having it not be a game going for realistic style, and then some years after hopefully we'll reach a point in VR where something like SAO becomes possible (i really hope i'll live to see the day lol).

  6. Considering the latest mainline titles other than 14 were the notoriously bad 13 (And lightning returns. 13-2 was passable), and the slightly less abysmal 15, saying FF is struggling is actually quite fair. Though with how 16 looks, probably not going to be an issue for much longer

  7. As much as FF14 has sort of become YoshiP's game, it's really important to remember that it's not really his game. He just came in to save it after the disastrous 1.0 and even now is still dealing with the fallout from the core of the game having been basically cobbled together from the ashes of 1.0 in an extremely short amount of time. I would love to see him actually get to develop an MMO from scratch with the sort of strong fundamental core I'm sure he would choose to build off of. And since YoshiP is such a big fan of bringing up and developing new talent, I could absolutely see him leaving FF14 to a new director/producer completely at some point in the future.

  8. I don’t know why exactly, but, I got a strange feeling from Yoshi P’s words, that he is, in a way, saying goodbye to FFXIV. The game itself will continue but, he has another big project to work on, and there’s only so much one man can take upon himself. If that’s the case, I quite understand. He’s left quite the legacy for us. What more could we ask for? Burnout is very bad, and I wouldn’t wish it on anyone. I hope he’ll, somehow, find the time to rest now. Thank you for this video Meoni. Stay safe. ❤️

  9. I think when Yoshi P talks about making another MMO he would be talking about a long time down the track. He has said frequently that FF14 is the game he is commited to and attempting to do both FF14 and another MMO at the same time would probably be too much for him. He has said it has been hard doing FF14 and FF16 at the same time and in a lot of ways building an MMO from scratch would be a much bigger task than a single player game, even if it is a mainline FF game.
