FFXIV: Wesk Ranks Every Extreme Trial (Endwalker)

Oh boy, here we go again. Who’s gonna get angry for this one? There’s a few fights I am sure I will hated for.

Also, sorry. I’m literally one person. No chance in hell I’d be able to get the B-Roll for every fight.

  1. Can't wait to get unreasonably upset about someone having a differing opinion than me about stuff that is entirely subjective.
I'm joking, people who actually do get upset over that are a bit silly in my opinion. Hope you have a great year in 2024 Wesk.

  2. Really surprised by the Ramuh placement. Back when I was on the free trial, it was my favorite extreme. But my experience was very different. The hardest part for our group was before Ramuh's ult, after that part of the fight, it was kinda just free

  3. putting that glorious beard in F tier is a disgrace.

in all seriousness though, i actually love the Ramuh fight. its the only EX trial in ARR where there are multiple challenging things going on often enough that everyone needs to pay attention to

  4. i love all of these. EXs are my favorite content in the game. i wish we got more of them, or at least more content that was around this difficulty level. it feels like everything in this game is either super easy cinematic content like dungeons and normal trials, or super hard stuff people prog for months like savage. gimme more middle difficulty stuff please yoship.

  5. Super interesting to hear these from a contemporary perspective, especially coming to the game later than you did! A lot of the things you mention are in the context of "for Extreme difficulty". Since you did the dungeons already, will you be moving onto Savage/Ultimates next? (Also missed opportunity to tell Rubicante Ex to "Get Rotated"!)

  6. I know it wasn't the focus of the video, I have to say I loved the Storm's Crown when I got there in the msq, and I hope we get more like it eventually for normal stuff. It's honestly a testament to it how little they had to adjust for the extreme. I will probably ride that high forever, and I even got it as BLM on roul and it was still fun

  7. I have a soft spot for Ramuh EX because of a personal experience with beating it in a random-matched party where we fought it largely blind (I think 6 of 8 didn't know the mechanics going in?), communication finally won the day, and we defeated him after a huge pile of pulls with a nail-biting five minutes left on the clock. But I understand that euphoric experience isn't gonna be an indicator of how fun it is on average.

  8. i might be biased for seiryuu since it was my first ex fight, but i love it cuz it was so fun despite being easy. it didnt feel very boring to me and i feel like this difficulty would be perfect for future content in between normal and ex

  9. I only really did EX trials in endwalker, and I definitely agree on the rough placements, as well as just the general trend of them being a complete mixed bag. Fights like Barbariccia, Golbez and Hydaelyn are a lot of fun. They're got a whole lot of movement, varied mechanics, force you to pay attention and act as good teaching tools to get you prepared for the kind of skills you need for even harder content like savage. Zodiark is just kind of there, he's a bit of the "stand and let thing resolve" meme especially with how many people relied on a dorito to get through it. He's not completely awful, but I got really bored of him as you get plugged into the matrix after a while; the dodges are more or less always the same, and once you've learned them, paying attention becomes optional.

Then we get to the REAL stinkers. Endsinger, Zeromus and Rubicante are all several different shades of bad. Endsinger probably being my personal least favorite among them, feels like she has LESS mechanics than normal mode (even if she doesn't). Almost all of her EX mechanics are remixes of phase 1 mechanics shoved into the aesthetic of her phase 2, the limit break check is completely removed, some mechanics outright don't show up and the new additions all feel really… bland. When she was hyped up as despair so black the light of hope couldn't pierce it, I was really expecting a lot more from her.

Zeromus is just boring, start to finish. He's barely changed from his normal version first of all, with all but branding/sparking and meteors being super intuitive to learn and not requiring much puzzlework. The things they added to him don't make the fight harder in any kind of significant way and the movement is just REALLY easy. If there was ever a fight that felt like a striking dummy, Zeromus is my pick, 'cause he just does nothing, man!

And then there's rubicante who's just… not a fight? He does his ordeals like eight times and none of them are any fun, the adds phase sucks and every other mechanic he does exactly once and they never put a spin on them. I'm not sure why they didn't decide to combine some of his mechanics like the donut/circle with ordeals, just to spice it up, with HOW often that happens in the fight. Limit cut being a savage mechanic is hilarious, but the savage version of it felt like an EX mechanic to begin with. The wing spread/stack just sucks, the safespots are poorly telegraphed, they're way too tight, and you're better off just having both your tanks invuln and LB3 to avoid having both healers die because nobody knows how far out/in they can be on the pizza slices.

  10. Memoria was my first Extreme ever, a friend recommended it as a good learning Extreme; so I might be nostalgic, but I do think it's good as just that. A good baby's first.

  11. Haven't done a lot of EX trials when they were current, but I'm just happy to get another S-ranking for Barbie; hell, even when I get the original in a roulette I'm stoked, the fight is just intensely fun and frenetic with matching music.
