FFXIV – The Gilded Araya

The latest trial boss, Asura, added in the 6.55 patch for the hildibrand questline. Yet another FF4 reference 😀

It was a fun one, nothing too complex but not braindead either.

  1. ngl utter disappointment with this one… it being tied to hildy is going to be again the "Yojimbo" problem people had in Shadowbringers when catching up with Hildy, no one will be doing it and it's not synchable. Generic FFIV theme for a trial too… guess I had my expectations tad too high.

  2. I'll unsubscribe till the Elden Ring DLC drops and I'm done with it so I don't spoil myself with the boss names and stuff, I'll save this video in watch later though to subscribe again afterwards

  3. Its disappointing this was connected to Hildibrand. It feels like a weird tonal shift compared to the Gilgamesh trials, and its as though they just needed to stick the Fan Fest trial somewhere.

The fight itself is… fine. Shame there's no Ultimate, not even sure if theres any loot like in the other Hildy fights, so theres not much in the way of replay value.

  4. I like the FF4 reference, but the trial itself is so extremely plain. I remember Greg's hilarious voice lines and his false surrender, chasing him across the bridge as he takes a moment to catch his breath, having to run away from a chicken to survive… then the Yojimbo is Greg reveal, ripping off Susano just because he stole the sword… compared to those, this trial didn't really have much in the way of memorable moments or even mechanics.

  5. The mechanics aren't as exciting as I thought, they look pretty much formulaic & don't bring anything unique or new. Too bad because the aesthetic is really beautiful.
