  1. Dunno how to feel about this. All of a sudden like everyone and their cat is coming out with how their experience with the WoW community was so toxic. And while even I had some toxic experiences with it, I felt they were only like occassional, adorable sparks instead of this Wildfire that seems to burn for over a decade!
Was it really so bad? There were some good laughters and moments too. But ultimately my own playstyle was also very introverted & solo oriented so maybe I just did not noticed it that much.
° actually watches video ° Oh it is also about FF14! Thought it would be… the usual. ;)))

  2. I remember when i played WoW back in 2008. The struggle to get a group together and powering through all the wipes to get the clear. No one was toxic to each other, we were happy that we found a group. I got that same feeling 18 months ago when I started playing FF14. I was a MT for the first time in my life and I enjoy it. In my 600 hours of FF14 I have only run into 1 "unhappy" player. I can't say toxic because he wasn't like the typical toxic player in WoW. We were doing a trial ( i cant remember which one) and he was the second tank and the whole groups was sprouts. He rage quit on the first wipe and left because people didn't know the mechanics. I explained what needed to happen, we got a new second tank, and finished the trial on the second try.

  3. I've encountered SO many toxic mentors! 😞
I was taking my boyfriend through Susano for the first time, and he mains tank so I told him to hop on the interactive thing for the cool thing. (People who have gotten that far know what I mean ;3 ) and the other tank was a mentor… He started throwing a FIT!! 'WELL- guess I just wasted all of my cool downs for NOTHING!' and sass like that. Then, he absolutely refused to do anything for the rest of the fight and kept whining about it. We voted to kick him, got another mentor tank who was ACTUALLY helpful!

Another mentor I had was a healer in Dzemael Darkhold while I was leveling and learning a tank class. They kept pulling ahead, pulling larger pulls than I was comfortable with, and were being extremely toxic in-chat because I couldn't handle the pulls they wanted… 😞

For every 10 or so 'bad' mentors, there's only 1 or 2 good ones… Like Sarah said, most people just want it to have it, not actually help. The most helpful people I've met in-game don't even have mentor status.
It's hit or miss if you'll get a good mentor who actually helps; just my opinion from my experiences though.

  4. The crown needs to be changed to a watering can. People who get it "for the crown", for their ego, will think that it's lame and complain about it then vanish from the mentor system. I'd also like it if they moved the mount to literally any other activity. It's a long grind to get the mount as it is, requiring months of daily mentor roulettes.

  5. I got into WoW around 2009, and I was never comfortable with my skill level to try raiding at first, but I eventually tried it, and when they saw I wasn't doing enough damage, they kicked me off the group. This was a guild I was friendly with and is why I tried it to begin with. Been basically a solo player until I quit half a year ago

  6. Seeing WoW's toxicity early on, I concluded that the problem were the players–that if you get a bunch of american prepubescents together, their proclivity naturally leans toward dick comparison and venomous elitism. But I was wrong.
FFXIV demonstrates that a game's design plays an enormous role in creating its sociological environment. Where WoW creates conditions ripe for competition, FFXIV tends to create conditions where cooperation gets you a win faster than competition.

  7. Recently, like a day ago, I was looking for a certain npc in a new ew zone, and I shouted where can I find him and the answer I got was "up ur ass" and other people roasting me, joining him. ffxiv community is great but it has its fair share of toxic people.

  8. Mining in FFXIV: "Hey there! I see you are mining the same stuff too!"
Mining in WoW: Player 1 clubs Player 2 over the head and mines the node while Player 2 rezzes at the nearest graveyard.

  9. a few bad players with mentor crowns, and suddenly its believed everyone with a crown is a narcissistic asshole. so why would I want to help people who generalize and acting like they know me because theres some gold pixels in front of my name. you see people acting like mentors are toxic when the toxicity is really the stigma people place on the role. its like people and dragoons, you can go lolgoon floor tank but really, when you are the butt of the joke why would you be motivated to get better when people will just assume your trash for playing a job.

making comments like "ill just get mentorship and hide the crown" like its some sort of scarlet letter and perpetuating the stigma. rather than applaud those with the crown that help people you disparage them by lumping them in with the handful of bad apples.

  10. As mentor, the burger crown is more of a meme than reality.
Most mentors are helpful, others are there for the crown and do guide when needed, small part is toxic or don't have a clue about the game.

Just it's easy to associate cause, well there is a crown

  11. Why does that girl bother with streaming? She's so boring. I mean, they're both boring. But she's also got the most boring vocabulary/chat. Is it just because she's not ugly?

  12. PvP in FFXIV is not so bad. You could go all without gear because it does not impact stats at all. What makes it different than WoW and probably any other game is that you have a number of skills at your disposal and you can only adjust your hotbars in the Wolves Den. Other than that, it is not so bad, I don't see much toxicity over there. I honestly have seen more toxic people in Limsa than in PvP.
