  1. man .. that song you pick to put on the back (Dreams Aloft ), just hearing that is making me tear, and i never ever cry for a game.

  2. Dialogue is definitely one of the things missing in WoW, especially ones with the player, as the game started moving towards that type of storytelling. It is currently hard to connect with any characters in WOW

  3. Hi Accalon, you should begin the Beast Tribes quests.
They are rep quest but they have story and if you complated all beast tribes stories of a expansion completed is unlocked a questline involved all tribes of that expansion.
You need craft and gatherer though.

    Sorry my english

  4. FF14 is the first time an mmo game actually made me feel like I was a part of the world and the story. No other mmo has ever done that, not WoW, not Old Republic, nothing. I'm up to Stormblood now and the FEELS just keep coming 😳

  5. Great video as always, man!

One thing to keep in mind re: background of YoshiP… he's a mystery novel fanatic (in his words, was so obsessed during school that he would read a full one every night… and likely wrecked his eyesight from sitting in a dark rook reading them for mood).

The pieces are ALWAYS there… often hidden in plain sight… but often, as well, not without benefit of hindsight.

  6. My theory is that it's not that they just use Meteor(Player Character) but rather they make characters follow around the plotline, whereas WoW uses story as a tool to develop their characters(also done very poorly), coupled with the fact that the character development is destroying already established characters, there is no new blood which destroys all possible potential. They need to stop shilling their already trash and very forced characters, Thrall, Sylvanas, Arthas, etc. They need new blood or make use of other secondary characters and focus on them instead and try not to make use of the main cast because they suck at it, and these characters had way too much screen time with so little substance, there is a reason why WoW vanilla was able to pull what it did besides gameplay, it's lore didnt force any character in specific, the Main character was the player and he was a living individual in the Warcraft universe, the world did not exist for the sake of characters

  7. WoW doesn't realize that you need to develop a character for the players to care about them.
Alisaie is a great example, when she appeared in ARR with Alphi I didnt think much of them, then she disappeared, I didnt so Coils for a long time and when I started that questlone I may have even said "hi Alphi" when I saw her, cause I didnt realize. Originally I didnt care for her much, but that Ga Bu storyline, the moment we share, its amazing, I fell for her character there and now she is one of my all time favourite characters, definitely an S+ tier character

  8. I know you're not in Stormblood yet (don't worry, no spoilers), but there's a moment in that expac that will ALWAYS give me major feels, even make me a bit misty-eyed. And the music that accompanies the moment that makes it so much worse for the feels for me. It's not even a sad moment, it's very happy, but…well, I really can't say anymore without getting into spoilers.

  9. 2:43 Oh, I know this scene very well. Pay attention to your WoL's reactions at similar scenes going forward, there is a great bit of superb storytelling going on after these events but it's very subtle and easy to miss.

They even use those writing techniques for the occasional seasonal event. There was the summer event that for two years featured a pair of Miqo'te siblings, an adult male and his little sister. You help him as he tried to be the best at climbing this climbing puzzle structure. He fails, but learns that failure isn't then end. He decided to become an adventurer like your WoL. The following year, the jumping puzzle is back (though different and more difficult) as is he and his sister. He fails again, but you learn how he's been training and starting to see some success as an adventurer.

Then there was a Little Ladies Day event that legit left me shaken at the peak it gave me into a very dark part of FFXIV's world and history. LLD is very loosely based on the Japanese Hinamatsuri holiday where at least a pair of dolls is displayed wearing traditional Heian period dress representing the Emperor and Empress. It's big long thing. However, they changed it up into a day in-game where all little girls in Uldah are treated like a princess and escorted by volunteer seneschals. The year in question, the Eorzean idol group "The Songbirds" returned for a concert and your reward was a trio a cheer emotes that use light sticks; and yes, there is literally an idol group in-universe and it's kind of awesome. There was also an optional quest after you completed the main one. It involved showing a shy and poor girl around. During this, there are mentions of a dark period about a century ago that caused Uldah to decide to only hire Guild adventurers as seneschals for the event. Shady characters once used to event to kidnap little girls to sell as slaves. Eventually, you are asked by this girl to get some family heirloom earrings that she lost. The location? A big tree near the zone line to Southern Thanalan. And you have to dig it up and they are very old and had obviously been there a long time. You return and she tells you to take it back to her family in that little fishing hamlet just past Horizon. When you turn back, she's gone. When you turn the earrings over to a very old man, he's surprised and remarks they're the earrings of his aunt who disappeared when she was little. Her disappearance haunted his grandmother and she would talk about her. He thanks the WoL and that's pretty much the end. But that quest shook me up at how very dark it was on such a happy and silly event like Little Ladies Day.

You go from literally cheering at an idol concert, complete with glow sticks, to that and it's left me paranoid about this event ever since. Speaking of which, LLD starts next week! I hope you enjoy your first LLD, though it doesn't look like we'll get another Songbirds concert this year and that kind of sucks.

  10. You hit the nail on the head here Acco. This is why the player base is so damn fixated on ppl doing the story. Yes the game is an mmo but this story and its roller coaster of emotions. It is something that binds the player base. We have all stood united in its triumphs and tragedy.

  11. The dialog in FFXIV is beatiful. They choose their words very carefuly and create great pieces of text. They are able to say simple things in incredible beauty. I love how poetic it is.

  12. Yes I really enjoy your video a lot and ofc there are many kind of people like who love lore and who don’t (but seeing ff14’s railings, there are many) and heavensward is test I feel. If it hits you like this, it means shadowbringers and endwalker will hit you even harder. And ofc I will not even suggest what’s n store for you so please enjoy your ride. By the way as for stormblood, many people feel it is not as good but I love it and some people feel it is underrated so I’m very interested in how you will react and how you analyze it.

  13. This has always been my favorite part of XIV – the fact that YOU are not only part of the story, but literally the piece that the entire thing hinges around. You aren't some faceless observer, barely in the background. You are a friend, a confidant, a rival, a nemesis, a love interest, a role model and more to everyone else in the story, and they let you know that.

  14. It doesn't make sense now but it will make sense. There's a point to all the things that are happening. That's what I really like about the writing. It's planned out and purposeful. They don't just throw out random plot points and forget about them. As Kronk once said, "It's all coming together."

  15. I've never cried during a movie, a show, a book or a game. At most I teared up a bit at the end of MGS3. This stupid weeb game has made me cry about 19 times since Heavensward, twice then, twice in Stormblood, three times in Shadowbringers, and TWELVE TIMES in Endwalker. The emotional weight behind this narrative and game is absurd and has twisted a knife into my gut far more than I ever expected. Natsuko Ishikawa is a goddess that should go down in the history books as one of the best video game narrative writers of all time.

  16. Just. Wait. Stormblood is the deep breath before the plunge. The plunge being Shadowbringers, and then Endwalker. There's nothing anyone can say (without spolers) to prepare you.

  17. I don’t really cry, and I haven’t in 14, but I am the type to be amazed by great story. The character deaths in this game, while few, are so impactful. Y’sayle was my favorite, so 3.3 hit very hard. That was a wonderful moment.

edit: in second thought, there was a moment that had me near tears but its not for your ears yet 😂🙂🙂

  18. Ahh Alisaie, when I met her in ARR I was like "Spoiled brat… I don't like her", but then something has changed. Maybe somewhere around the Gaboo storyline, cause I skipped coils, she opened up, I say a lost girl who was looking for something, a way how she can make a change in the world. And she came to the conclusion that her status and money do not make her good, but what she does for others. She goes reckless sometimes and I was like "WTF girl, you are not indestructible, I am (theoretically)" and by the middle of the Shadowbringers (or earlier), I would have jumped into the fire for her, as well as for all others I am traveling with. They didn't just do the characters likable, but through their development, your interaction with them, they grow on you and before you notice you genuinely feel like friends.
