  1. So what we learned from Shadowbringers was that there were three factions within old ascian society. First, the convocation of fourteen (then thirteen) who decided to summon Zodiark; the opposing faction, led by Venat, that summoned Hydaelyn; and finally Azem, who sought a different path. If anything, Sharlayan society seems to follow the path of Azem; the path of non-intervention and pacifism. I don't think they were founded by Ascians as we know them (neither sundered nor unsundered). It's possible that they were founded by followers of Venat, but again, that doesn't ring quite true either. That line where Fourchenault goes "if the Final Days were truly upon us, we would know" is very telling to me. That, combined with G'raha Tia digging into a tome with an illuminati-like symbol on the cover in the depths of Sharlayan in the trailer signals to me that there's a third party.

I believe there's a secret society, founded by Azem in the distant past. They serve as guardians to ensure that the stalemate between Hydaelyn and Zodiark remains, and if it were ever to be broken, they would step in to prevent the Final Days. Exactly how they would do that, however, I do not know. I believe it is this society that was the foundation for the founding of Sharlayan. It is a secret that only a select few within Sharlayan society know, for risking the followers of Zodiark or Venat to find out about them would compromise their existence altogether.

  2. I agree with your theory there must be some Ascian hand at play with Sharlayan. The aesthetic in their designs are similar, though not identical. The pursuit of knowledge and observing without interfering sounds very much like policies I would have expected from the different sub-schools of Akadaemia Anyder. There is also the matter that the devs refused to answer the question of Lahabrea's actual ancient name. They said they could not because it was a would be a spoiler. And Lahabrea being the poster face of the upcoming Pandaemonium raid; Pandaemonium having all sorts of potential easter eggs all its own to tie back to the 'lost paradise' of the ancient star.

But after having Fandaniel pop up officially in the storyline now, if we find Travanchet in Sharlayan I WILL lose my mind. 🙂

  3. Man I didn't think we'd get a more punchable face than Asahi/Fandaniel until we met the twin's father. I can be fine with the whole we won't be helping part. Then he went n disowned his kids.

Either they somehow don't know about the Ascians and the truth of Hydelean and Zodiark and thus think we're just foolishly going back to war with Garlemald as childish. Or they know, but don't know that we know and still see us as blind fools. They're definitely hiding something as they could have easily just sent a letter. They instead voted to send a physical response and then I assume either voted again to send their Father or due to his roll he got sent automatically.

Then there's the whole ignoring of Krile's questions. It all just shouts we know stuff but we see you as sprouts so we can't tell you cause it'd be spoilers even though I doubt some of the things they think we don't know are. They also as you've said might not realize we averted the 8th calamity and they are waiting for it to happen. Course all of this could be avoided if you know conversation happened.

  4. Part of me wonders if Fourchenault cut ties like that so that the twins would not be held back by their name later on. So they can do whats right without bringing shame to their family or something.
