[FFXIV] Scholar in Endwalker: An Analysis and Thoughts

Thanks for MrHappy and Spofie for letting me use some of their footage! You can check them out in the links below 😀

This video is my thoughts on the Scholar job going into Endwalker, these changes are tentative and are subject to change, especially potencies so keep that in mind. We’ll have an updated video after the release of Endwalker when we have more hands on with the job.

  1. Honestly I didn't doubt Sch would be strong but it saddens me to see that outside numbers it has a fair share of gameplay issues like the braindead dps rotation or some of the capstone skills locking each other out.

  2. I wish Tactical Emergency had received a buff
I don't mind the 15s CD for a proper medica but now that the sage is there and it actually can spam a medica and on top of that has a burst heal in the form of pepsi
Emergency Tactic just seems plain worse in every situation.
I think adding a 20-25% healing effect bonus to Emergency Tactic would help a great deal when… well you're in an emergency for more heal :p

No comment on dissipation, I really wish they would rework the ability as it currently suffers from too many issues
My wishlist would be to make it affect all healing actions (with a nerf to 10% healing bonus if needs be) as well as a reset of the EF related ogcd. (maybe SS as an exception)
The fact that you also don't get fairy gauge is really annoying, a duration reduction would help a great deal

  3. Oh scholar won't be weak thats for sure, It's just kinda boring to DPS as one. We've been using Energy Drain since 2.0 at level 15 and it would have been really nice to have some sort of upgrade to make it look and feel more impactful. If BLM can get Fire 2 and Bliz 2 upgraded we should get a fancier e-drain. 🙁

  4. Imo SCH having energy drain and SGE not kinda sucks due to AF heals being a dps loss. Wish they'd give SGE a similar tradeoff or make ED a button that procs only when you use an AF heal giving you a 100p oGCD. I think most of the SCH and SGE abilities have a 1-to-1 mapping, other than deploy, dissipation, haima and physis 2. The latter 2 on SGE feel stronger and tbh with one more 2 min cd on SCH I think it would feel absolutely fine in comparison with SGE.

  5. Very unsatisfied with the way they're handling Scholar, but not surprised. Just defeated. So many things they could have improved and it's basically the same. Even the one thing they said they were improving, pet AI, still didn't remove ghosting. It'll be powerful but it looks like a far cry from the job I loved in previous expansions. And I'm worried that all of our feedback is going to get lost in the false "Scholar weak lol" memes

  6. Wish they gave back individuality to Eos & Selene.
Then there's them as NPC commanded pets.
Be way better to treat pet skills as oGCDs directly from you the player and the fairy not be an NPC but a visual aesthetic when using it.
Like WHM new ground target aoe heal Lilybell, imagine that effect when being placing fairy away from you but as oGCD. Lilybell is basically aoe embrace when placing fairy at a certain spot so why couldn't SCH with the actual heal pet get something like that themselves? Closest thing is single target Fey Union but fairy can't use other skills.

  7. I havent been playing scholar that much but I played today 72-76 through dungeons and I was starving for mana compared to the other healers, how about aetherflow spenders each regen 500 mana so dissipation can be used as a mana tool, and what uses the most mana? the gcd shield spells

  8. You know, the numbers are still strong if not stronger now…still have complaints about dissipation though. If it is one thing im surprised is how no one brings up excog…i just want to be able to manually proc it instead of praying to the high heavens it does its job. Have to see on the pet responsiveness myself though..to many people with conflicting say on it. Heres hoping they c hange things better for sch at a later date..

  9. Great video. I think that another important SCH change going into Endwalker is the fairy healing potency scaling. After looking at the available footage and comparing the SCH healing skill amounts against the fairy healing skill amounts and checking them against their tooltip potencies, it's looking very promising so far.

  10. Thanks for the vid. SCH is still crazy strong despite its drawbacks. SCH is literally the only job that needs the flaws it has to prevent it from being busted. Despite everything it already has, it is getting the 1.5s Broil cast for better weaving, WAR's ToB every 60s, and 20 seconds of mitigation and movement speed. Good lord man.

BTW. I love that chest piece. Which one is it?

  12. A solid, but bland, healer.

SCHs wanted to have more uses for the faerie gauge, and SE actually reduced its usefulness.
SCHs wanted more attacking options, even a simple dot added back would be enough, but instead they are stuck with what they had, and is possibly the healer that has the most boring dps capabilities even though it stemed out of a dps class.
SCHs (me at least) wanted to SE finally realize that for theirs and SMNs weapons, the "contents" of the books is what should have been interesting, isntead they just focus on the covers.

I have fond memories of SCH, my old main… I remember the great use of the fairy in Iffy Ex for example… but it seems SE forgot that SCH, in theory, just like SMN, IS a pet job. Why the fuck they dont make more use of it? Would have been so cool if the aetherflow stacks did what it does already, but the faerie gauge would be used to summon more faeries to help instead of being just a life support tether…

And it still baffles me how the fuck they think Dissipation is a good skill? it should have been the oposite and giving more utility for the fairy… why does it have to sacrifice a big part of its kit for just some lame potency and stacks? when the other healers get it for basically free?
