[FFXIV] Scholar in Dawntrail: An Analysis and Thoughts

Thanks for Arthars and Mrhappy for letting me use some of their footage! You can check them out in the links below ๐Ÿ˜€

This video is my thoughts on the Scholar job going into Dawntrail, these changes are tentative and are subject to change, especially potencies so keep that in mind. Weโ€™ll have an updated video after the release of Dawntrail when we have more hands on with the job.

  1. Is it confirmed that recitation works on manifestation with seraphism? I presumed it did since it's the same skill, but the tooltip for recitation doesn't explicitly name it.

Either way, excited to play SCH for another expac!

  2. Baneful Impaction is nice, but being locked behind a 2 minute cooldown is a huge disappointment, especially when Scholar used to have Miasma, Bane, Miasma II, and Shadow Flare. Seraphism also seems like a huge hit to the job's visual and thematic identity and has gotten a lot of backlash for its aesthetic dissociation from the job. Really hope we can see changes to the healers without needing to wait another 2.5 years for the next expansion. #FFXIVHealerStrike

  3. Sure its still the best healer, but its fun? Chain strat follow up just feel underwhelming, and seraphism is cartoonish at the best of time, unnecessary and stupid at the worst of time

  4. Seraphism feels insanely strong. I really wonder if we're gonna see more Scholar/Sage comps just due to how much raw healing power it has.

Kinda wish the transformation itself looked a little better though. Those wings look kinda ugly and I dunno if turning into an angel really gels with its aesthetic

  5. I hate energy drain…but it needs to exist unless aetherflow gets changed on how it works. I would prefer aetherflow turning leftover stacks into extra mp, but as it stands we need a way to dump them before it comes back off cooldown.

Also, Dissipation can kindly piss off.

  6. Sorry. But dissipation stays stupid. I've said it on other videos/platforms but the whole point of sch is to use the fairy to help heal and then we get an ability that removes them… very counterintuitive

  7. I hate aetherflow. It just enhances everything that makes healer parsing dumb and creates extremely toxic gameplay patterns. Now they have even stronger non-aetherflow healing options. I foresee some very stupid Scholar logs if its possible to survive while never spending aetherflow on healing in Savage.

  8. The fact that dissipation either wasnt changed or removed just annoys me to no end. I absolutely hate that move and despite the overall strength of scholar, dissipation alone made me reroll to sage early into endwalker. It's just so damn archaic at this point and one of the worst parts of the job, especially since they just keep adding more and more abilities that have anti-synergy with it.

  9. Seraphism's forced transformation is a major turnoff for me. I have spent resources to glamour my wol only to transform into a KKK follower, instead of a military tactician. I hope this gets changed or removed. Gone are also the opportunity costs it once had. And where's my GCD Shadowflare and Rouse? Still dealing with unnecessary bloat of having a demi-summon and a gauge that 1 ability makes use. The demi-summon and gauge can be removed and be replaced with the superior Rouse.
