In this FFXIV Samurai guide, I give you all of the building blocks necessary to build a foundation for playing the job by teaching you the opener and the individual parts of the rotation, then tying it all together with how me make our rotation flow. Weâll then dive into how to expand upon all of our core concepts so that we did cover so no matter your skill level â you will be able to learn something new.

What advice do you have for someone who has trouble tracking raid buffs?
sick video!
with meikyo enabling key burst abilities, it seems like ad-hoc/freestyle will be dead? since you can't adjust the rotation with meikyo anymore and have to use it during burst. God I hate the filler GCDs I never am able to keep track of how much I need especially since I'm not 100% accurate with my gameplay and make combo mistakes.
EDIT: I think I'm calling it wrong by calling it ad-hoc
I love saying "I need to higanbana to get another shoha because I might not get another midare setsugekka" because it makes no sense to anyone but it sounds samurai
I'm planning on having sam as my second main this tier, so this guide came at a perfect time! Now I just need to figure out how to play sam with my funky mnk melds đ
I have a question I was hoping you could help with. I've been practicing my rotation on a dummy and I notice after awhile, meikyo shisui will naturally overcap (my gcd recast is 2.15). I'm guessing this is because we only use one once a minute and it has a 55s cooldown, so they eventually "catch up". Obviously I wanna use it, but whenever I try to simply throw it out somewhere, it changes how the rotation loops. Is there a way to avoid this, or is it just something that has to be played around?
Thank you so much for this, genuinely, Thank you!
Thank you for the guide but this is going to take me a bit lol. My brain hurts 0-0
Whoever did the Tsubame-gaeshi change in DT should get fired, it just destroyed the flexibility of SAM, what a shame they fixed something that worked just fine in EW just to let ppl feel they actually did something
Thanks for this guide, I was savage raiding in endwalker and learning samurai and for the life of me wondered why I was doing such low damage. Imagine my surprise hearing the basic job of samurai is aligning with raid buffs đ€Šđ thank you so so muchh
Great guide Tyci. Especially the downtime explanation.
Very well put together guide thank you! You are a natural at this and I've happily subscribed.
I had one question that doesn't seem to be mentioned in the guide and maybe it's just me being a smoothbrain SAM here, on fights that go past about 6 minutes I tend to find my Meikyo Shisui cooldown will start to drift to the point of capping back at 2 charges before I can use it for a burst window. I'm experimenting with places to burn it but I wanted to know if there is a good place in a standard loop rotation to use it without accidentally drifting a Higanbana or other time sensitive moves?
Edit: Saw that someone else has asked this same question in the comments, thanks for your answer there!
14 prepull meykio is suuuuch bullshit.
so pissed off that it is even a thing. just the priciple of it.
entering every pf i should ask for a 15 sec timer
and when they pull on 10 or even 5 what am i supposed to do? wall it?
Picked up SAM for Dawntrail and this guide was excellent shortening my initial learning curve by a ton. You kick ass!
That was a great guide Thank you. Do you have a guide for Ninja by any chance Dawntrail?
One criticism – the "Mei" in "Meikyo" is kinda pronounced like "May." In Japanese, "e" is pronounced like "eh" and if it's followed by an "i" then you just hold the "eh" sound for slightly longer.
Just started playing. Awesome stuff! Youâve gained a sub! Keep it up.
The sheer amount of "Miyekyo" being said here man…
Such a great guide!
I plan on switching to sam next tier and trying to get practice in now.
On a dummy 2.08 lines up perfectly with full uptime as described.
But im finding the general downtime mechanics of savage are forcing my even burst to be around 10-20s behind (late) because i cant always keep the combo loop rolling and it compounds.
If this happens, would doing the meikyo "acceleration" be recommended to catch up?
Even if it means one is not available for odd/even bursts?
Amazing tips ! Thanks !
great video, very well laid out thank you!
You forgot the most important Information.
Fashion.
If your sword looks not cool, you do less Damage.
If you don't run with sword out, you are slower
If you don't scream your attack names, your are doing less damage.
