  1. I think people discount graphics to a certain extent. While gameplay, does in fact matter more than graphics, the overwhelming majority of FFXIV's Gameplay.. is story, and looking at characters, at scenery. Being in awe at the surroundings. If everything only can have one actual lighting source, is all a shade of off yellow, and you can see the ridges in a model's face on a close up or the pixels in someone's crystal robe.. it detracts from the immersion and ambiance. It detracts from the atmosphere that the story tries to set up.

  2. Personally I think it's good to have options.
I like that I can easily get relics for all of the jobs now, but I can see that it feels boring for people that there is no new content attached to them in EW and that you are just basically doing dailies for them.
Bozja Relics were ok with me, but it still felt more tedious to me then the EW relics do.
If they make a new Bozja-like zone for the DT relics they really need to get a grip on the Delubrum and Castrum bottleneck problem it had.

  3. I liked the Endwalker Relics because it was an epilogue, I treated it as such and felt more like a break. Also, it's the one relic that didn't have that curse of the second and third step bullshit that was in all of the other ones and we all know which steps they were.

  4. I know I'm in the minority, but I honestly don't mind the EW relic grind. Even with non-Bozja alternative sources for most of the steps, the ShB relic grind eventually drove me away after completing my second one. This expansion I'm happily chipping away at completing them for all jobs through roulettes.

  5. It think one of my favorite things about SE is that they seem to always try to take good care of there creators. This was a fun interview.
I'm so glad we will not be getting another tome only relic… I usually only do one relic an expansion and I'm content. Now I'm doing all the relics and have nothing else to do.
Lol I just hope they don't give us books again.

  6. Honestly I do miss the Nerve -pinching, Headache-enducing Grind. Got my first Zeta exactly two weeks before HW Launch and it felt like an absolute accomplishment! In fact, I did not submit it to skip the 1st step for Anima either and still have my original to this day!

  7. I might be alone on this hill but I'll die on it anyway: EQ and EQ2 handled class-specific weapons (Epics, relics, etc) the best hands down. The quests were decently long, a little tough, required others/raids, some dabbled in tradeskills, had decent lore along the way (If that's your thing) and they looked cool. Finishing your epic felt so insanely good and it was actually a BiS weapon for literal years because it came with some kind of click ability or passive that really resonated with your class and buffed one of it's core features. It wasn't left in the dust 2 months down the road.

But alas different times, different games.

  8. I didn't mind the Zodiac relic steps much. Each step had its own benefits: The Atma step was a good way to multi-task grinding FATEs for achievements, the books forced you to unlock the huge amount of post-game ARR dungeons and experience their lore, the light farming step was multi-tasking for dungeon clear achievements, and the Zodiac normal step had you work with various people and learn their backstories. I wasn't very fond of the fact that you had to pay 100,000 gil for one item, but then again I am not really into playing the marketboard – I usually buy level skips and sell the Allagan pieces for my cash flow, so I understand if you think I'm just lazy. 🙁

The Anima relics were a bit grindy and most of the steps required tomestones of poetics. The fact that they removed the repeatable quests to farm the Crystal Tower Raids for pearls to give someone for five aether oils was annoying but I understand why they did it. Still, it's a good way to burn off tomestones after doing your daily roulettes after you've bought all of the current expansion gear. 🙂

I think the reason that the Endwalker relics are so hated is because (a) it forces you to do the Hildebrand storyline, which is optional and has no connection to the MSQ, so most players will ignore it, and it's also really wacky so people are turned off by the story. (This is odd as the only way to get 100% Blue Magic is by doing the first Hildebrand storyline as the only place to get 4-Tonze Weight if from Dragon's Neck and the only place to learn Missile is from the Battle at the Big Keep, which are trials only unlocked via Hildebrand.) (b) The tomes are the capped tomes, which means you must run max-level content which takes long queues because everyone and their mother is queuing up for these raids and dungeons. 🙁

  9. As someone who started in 2020, I have gone back and done one Zodiac weapon, did a few Resistance weapons on content, and haven't touched Atma or Eureka weapons. I would personally love having something been Zodiac and Resistance – a choice between big but GUARANTEED solo grind, or a dynamic group activity like Bozja, every step. Bozja had elements of this, but dropped the ball when it came to implementing randomness on things like timeworn artifacts from PotD or the Stormblood fates quest step (which thankfully you only do once).

Then again I love the feeling of crossing items off a list so my favorite step of Zodiak was books (except waiting for Fates to spawn) so maybe my opinion is unique.

  10. Now I'm going to be honest I prefer the relics. As they are now this way I can do them for multiple jobs and it still takes a long time but I do feel like other people do need an option if they want it to be longer but I don't think that the casual player should be taking 10 years to get a weapon is a lot of these relics when they first came out and it took me several months and not all of them I want to go through again and that's just honest I feel like the casual player should be able to get it easily but I still think that those people that want that sense of achievement to also have the option for themselves but we can agree to disagree but Imma be honest I play multiple jobs and I do not want to go through none of that shit again. In I do not have to rely on somebody else to get the relics as well I don't need help I can just solo it if I just need to do spam dungeons that's fine but anything that requires third party aka people is immediate hell no for me.

  11. If they did a new Eureka I would be over the moon…definitely the best balanced and (imo) fun acquisition content! Eureka still relevant to this day! Throw in a dungeon/world/tome option for those who don’t like it – done.

  12. I don't mind EW relics being purely tomes. As someone who gets to play for a couple of hours after work most of the time, it's been nice to slow chip away at the full collection while running roulettes (I genuinely enjoy doing roulettes, so I'm doing them anyways).

But I can totally understand why a lot of people find the EW mindlessly easy. I think they had the perfect chance to combine EW relics with the new variant/criterion dungeons (say one criterion clear got you 1 or 2 of the material you needed), and they just… … didn't for some reason. Missed opportunity imo. Doing that would have made getting the relics a little more interesting and would have helped keep variant/criterion dungeons from immediately loosing interest as soon as all the paths were completed

  13. He's right about a tough grind sticking with you over the years. I remember grinding atma for hours, sitting around with 20 other people waiting for a fate to spawn, and so much more. The only think I remember about EW relic is that it was done by the time I accepted the quest.

  14. Proper grind for relic again? Let's fucking goooo it being just a tombstone grind was a major disappointment even if I do like ol' Hildy. Sad though that Cosmic Exploration will be the "Restoration" type of content instead of Garlemald Restoration, which a few times in side quests its felt like they've hinted at

  15. i think that if the new exploration zone is the focus for the next relic, i hope that the exploration zone itself is more focused the way eureka is, with all its systems leading towards you getting the resources you need and the opportunity to have more directed visits to the exploration zone. something that bothers me about bozja is how aimless it feels to me a lot of the time— a challenge log for eureka was a great move, not to mention that all nms give you currency you use for your relics. a hybrid approach between something more akin to eureka and the Option to do things outside, with no method being objectively better than the other (i hate bozja relics being better to do outside of bozja) we'd have something better in our hands. Also i hope they never again do one time steps like the ones they did for the resistance weapons, those were AWFUL.

overall the best relic grind in the game at the moment (to my taste) is eureka and it is what i'd hope to see more of.

  16. I actually like the original relic grind the best. Loved doing all of the fates. The world felt alive….and it really wasn't difficult, just time-consuming.

  17. Early on in the expansion I was really against the tomes but now I actually super love it. I've only ever got like 1 or half a relic from old expansions because they are hard to go back to but I have like 7 either at the final or second to final step. And I get to earn it passively by just playing the game how I want to. I'm doing my shb grind now and it is a grind but for one weapon it's not too bad. I dunno. I hope it's a bit less grindy than this but now quite as easy as ew

  18. Bit of a wall of text, but whatever:
I'm sure I'm in the severe minority, but I never liked Eureka or Bozja. They just ended up feeling like slightly more complex 2.x ARR FATE trains (giving it a different name doesn't change anything… it's still a FATE). Yes some of the FATEs had more complex mechanics, and yes there was story content to unlock and the raids. Those were the bits I actually wanted to do, but not so much that I wanted to deal with the standing around… standing around… OMGRUNMAKEITPL-BOSSPULLED!!! Boss is dead, standing around… That's just equal parts boring and annoying. I already played the hurry up and wait game. In 2014.

And the real thing that stands out to me is that were I to venture back into either Eureka or Bozja, it wouldn't be for the weapons. I legitimately think that basically all the Eureka and Bozja weapons look better in their first couple of stages than all their later forms. No, instead of going for the weapons I'd be aiming for either the Elemental armor in Eureka or the Law's Order sets from Bozja. Yeah, the middle set of Bozja armor, NOT the final one (many of which look like high school wrestling team outfits…). For weapons I'd be much more likely to grind out another ARR or HW relic.

While I do absolutely agree that the Endwalker relic weapon process lacked… anything engaging, at least I could do it passively while also doing pretty much anything else. "Oh got enough tomestones, guess I'll go buy some space rocks." And while I don't think any of these weapons really stand out visually either, at least the grind vs. reward ratio isn't skewed so badly that I'm actively bothered by the appearance and can simply glamour and go on with my day.

Here's hoping they take little bits of all the previous relic grinds and add a little something new as well. But what I really hope for is just that the final weapons end up looking better than the past 3 iterations.

  20. Never did Stormblood's relic grind.

I don't need ARR style but closer to HW or Shadowbringers.

Maybe towards the end of an expansion cycle open relics up to just tomestone grind.

  21. 15:45 The zodiac and heavensward? not enough whiskey in Ireland or currency in the world to get me to want to make them. Suffered through the renown gating/Apexis Crystal/Artifact Power/Azurite Power/Soul Power- WoW, DF/ WoD/Legion/BfA/SdL to last a lifetime. Trolls in Eureka gave me flashbacks to dark age of camelot- where I lost 8 levels before I learned. A was feeding them B it would take 12-18 hours to get the levels back and un installed. For Bozja? if only a tank/healer/dps are in for the boss rush-if perfect 45 to an hour and 15. if average? 3 hours. and if less than 6 for first alliance raid there, or 10-12 in final alliance? can't beat the final part. I'll take Endwalker ANY day before I trug through those first 3 sorry Ozma mount. or Bozja again.

  23. I don’t want to sound rude, but I don’t agree with the Borja option going further. Why should there be alternate routes to obtain relic weapons? There are not alternate routes to obtain savage, ultimate, and extreme drops. Each piece of content should be targeted at a specific type of gamer. They have done that with Savage, Extreme, and Ultimate content, but for some reason the relic content, which was originally geared for the players who like to grind, has lost its focus. Relics, for some reason, are supposed to be owned by everyone. We have tome weapons that fill that role. Relics should remain the focus for people who want to grind. IF you don’t want to grind, don’t make a relic. That simple. Eureka and Bozja took it a step further and make it a social experience as well. Bozja eliminated the social aspect and lessened participation in the new content because it was easier, and more efficient to gain the materials outside of the new content. While, meta crowd drifting to this, they also had a negative perception of the relic grind because they only repeated old content they had done for years. They could’ve enjoyed the new content in Bozja, but, meta people will be meta people. The current relic system is again, not rewarding. People want new content, not more rewards from their roulettes.

  24. Why are you saying SSDs are somehow a console exclusive thing? The first SSDs for PCs were introduced over 3 decades ago and they've pushed HDDs out of the market like a decade ago. What a weird take.

  25. What people don’t understand is it wasn’t just the grind in a realm reborn for the relics. It was the community around it. I miss the fun chats with people as we roamed for fates for hours. I miss the figuring out of the light step, the windows, and the community submitted light bonus window setup. The funniest thing in game was Garuda ex getting a bonus light window and that so many people que’d for it that even with a full party there was a wait cause there is a limit to the amount of instances that can be made. Ironically foreshadowing for rauhbaun ex problem in stormblood. The relic was a fun community grind and now it’s boring and not a grind or a relic.

  26. Sometimes you say some really dumb stuff… "Sometimes you want to log in to do more than just expert roulette and hunt trains"… OK WELL DON'T INSTANTLY GO FOR THE MOST EFFICENT WAY TO GET TOMES THEN… Run dungeons, run trials, run raids, run alliances, run pvp… they all give tomes… Oh right, But you don't actually want to run those because they are "too easy"… "Dungeons are casual content", then lets complain every time its mentioned about how the raid series is poorly scaled and is too short so you can skip mechanics… Meanwhile you say oh the 900 weekly tome cap is bad and would be a pain because its too much effort to log in and get 900 tomes a week… You can log in 3 days a week and in about an hour per day cap 900 tomes from running like 3-4 roulettes.

Do you want to play the game or not? Because everything you do and say points to you wanting to minimize the amount of playtime you have per week… Yet the thing that is actually facilitating that, The ease of acquiring a new relic weapon… Which there are 19 of and will be 21 in DT… You complain about… Took me weeks to get all 19 weps and that was going hard every day running every roulette that gave tomes and running 1-2 hunt trains daily, I could have done it faster if I server hopped to do more hunt trains… so skipping hunt trains entirely and only running all the roulettes daily which is still hours of play time per day… it would take people over 2 months to get them all… it being the easiest option is enough of a grind already… Saying its bad because you took the easiest option available of the multitude of options just makes you a hypocrite at worst or ignorant at best…

  27. Yes. Because it is easy, lol.but bozja's concept is fine. First one is grindy, But any weapon after that is less grind. The only problem is timeworn artifacts…. When ew comes out, The drop rate in potd should be buffed to at least 50% after floor 50

  28. I wish the relics were tied to job related quests and content. Everything feels so impersonal and sterile. I think it would be really cool if XIV has an expansion like Legion where you can better live out your job/class fantasy.

  29. I have been fine with EW’s Relics. I preferred having them tied to Bozja/Eureka, but I had no complaint with EW. What I do not want is anything resembling ARR or HW Relics. One reason I am fine with Tomestones being the method is because I have a bit of limited play time. Grinding Causality IS a grind for me. I get that for people who meet their tone caps consistently it may not feel like one. I would prefer they tie it to fun content in the future, but I do NOT want to spend my time grinding FATEs in old areas. That is the last thing that sounds fun to me.

  30. All they have to do for relics is do one complete weapon the old fashioned way, cool unique quests, zones and grinding and whatever, then it gets easier with each additional weapon after that

  32. Take the good from the Zodiac weapons, and leave out the bad. You will have a winning formula. The grind should be significantly reduced when acquiring additional weapons after completing the initial questline.

I understand that what is good and bad is subjective. What I am talking about is what is innately good and bad. Some people like the books, others don't. Book objectives that revitalize content like the NieR raids (good). Objectives that make players sit in a zone waiting for a FATE to spawn (bad).
