Chromie Time is implemented in such a way that it was poorly executed like the entirety of Battle For Azeroth and Shadowlands. >.>
I agree with you with Chromie,, why can't we do the whole game before the new expansion.
Players all over the world keep telling Blizzard how to fix their game and they keep ignoring the valuable information lol
Imagine wasting/ignoring such amazing FREE feedback you getting and keep messing up the game and playing with fire… Like why dude? The EGO is strong with them.
You know for years I criticized Bungie for removing 98% of the story of Destiny and adding it to grimoire cards, but I’m at least thankful I’ve never had to pay 100s of dollars to have these questions in the narrative answered
now for real, on behalf the other expansions, why should we even level up anymore if everything is about the endgame? why should we know the story anymore ? why why why why why ?
Addons shud not exist same as macros…….they are devs tools to improve the games, not to players to play. Addons made ppl dumb and lazy on the learn curve every player need to walk :D(just to complete, some alerts who WA provide shuld be in the game UI, alerts for buff, dbuff, etc on a visual way ;))
the wow we knew ended when the world stopped being the actual protagonist of the game.
Love the point about side quests. They need to be small, character driven little stories that have a setup and payoff. Even better if they can provide additional, if unneeded, context for the area or the main story
Oribos is SO BAD
Look at the guards LOL
Human model with leveling plate gear ROFL
WHY BLIZZARD!?
WHY?!!!!!!!!
It's just a small indie game company, I'm sure this is the best they could have done.
Who am I kidding a single indie dev could do better than this. It's never been more obvious they don't play their own game nor care about it in any shape or form. Why make anything about the game better when players will do it for free with addons? Why bother explaining the story when players will do it for free on YouTube? Why make the early game at all interesting when they could push endgame and sell boosts? Pathetic.
Also all the mobs being in the way and how difficult it is to get flying now are just more ways to waste player time. WoW is full of them.
32:15 What are you talking about, i've been playing Warcraft since Warcraft 2. And i fucking dislike Sylvanas. He used to be a good character BUT OVER ALL now, she is SHIT.
And her lore/story got shit on. She is not a likable character and she never will. Blizzard will force it for sure. They will milk that history to the end of times. but they can't fix it. They messed up BIG time.
Addon culture is great.
Weak auras are great.
The fact that you can personalize your UI and way of playing is great.
Exactly like macros work. Without macros the game wont be the same. Love all these things.
Blizzard needs to implement a "story mode" for new players that makes them play through the story in chronological order, so they learn about the characters and events.
I think for someone's very first time playing, this mode should be MENDATORY. And once someone finishes the story of 1 expansion -> this expansion unlocks for "zoom mode".
Once the new player has played through all the expansions and unlocked "zoom mode" for all expansions, he can THEN level the same way retail wow handles it's leveling (if they so chose).
"Story mode" should be a permanent optional game-mode/leveling-mode. I personally would even love a "challenge mode" with harder mobs, LFR and dungeon finder & heirlooms disabled.
Then after selecting one of these leveling modes, the player is then "phased?" so he only sees other players that chose THE SAME leveling mode as they did.
Like warmode, maybe this could be temporarily be disabled while in a city, in case someone change their mind, but wants to continue on the same character.
And after finishing 1 expansion in a certain game mode, maybe you would unlock and achievement or tile. "Glory of the Burning Crusade challenge adventurer" for example. And after finishing all expansions in that mode, maybe you could be awarded with a cool mount. "Reins of the experienced adventurer's (creature)".

Completely agree. IF THIS is the mindset some of the WoW devs take crisitism WOW IS DONE.
Open your minds, use this feedback to make a game better. The guy in the video is literally HELPING us by telling us his experience within the game.
Excellent Malfurion impression.
One boss mech i can honestly say you needed DBM for was in ICC Sindragossis fight that came to my mind, when she went into the air and pick 2 targets to put ice freeze on. if the 2 targets did not moved out of the group to the specific designation it would wipe the raid everytime, do to the fact the raid would be in a ice imprisoned where you couldnt do nothing but watch your health deteriate to nothing. Was the easiest fight and mechanic but so many failed to even the easiest so it doesnt matter if the mech are hard or easy. You still need some kind of Add on to help out for in WoW. But i do agree add ons are becoming to rediculous these days ones we use should have already been implamented by now in the game by the devs but we just keep getting an add on that we add to the stack pile of list of add ons for each new expac that comes out.
I use to use heal bot and have tried a bunch of other heal add ons and got tired of, and frustrated to the point of always switching for a raid on a add on to get re aquated with that add on i said f.. it and went old school for group when i do my heals now. haven't used an heal add on since MoP in game.
I stand by the need to merge Classic into Retail, and have a toggle for storylines like the Bronze watchers in Silithus and Blasted Lands.
New players should START in Classic and have a 1-50 tour of the past in selected zones, to get the story.
Here is how i would do the guided chains – each of them with a Bronze guide. Can we give Chromie a break?
Been rewatching B5… maybe an Infinite Dragonflight guide giving the other side of their incursions… I mean… the Shadows were not wrong…
1-10 – Horde (regardless of race) – Barrens and Ashenvale – you encounter encroachments from Theramore and Kul Tiran refugees then up to conflict with the Night Elves;
Alliance (regardless of race) – Elwynn and Redridge – factions of Orcs and Trolls on the borders, telling of the invasion from the Blasted Lands
Both end with appearance of Burning Crusade and pushing them back through the Dark Portal
11-15 – Burning Crusade – Hellfire, Terrokar, and Shadowmoon – ending with 5 man version of Illidan fight and pushing back the Legion, returning and learning about Arthus
16-20 – Northrend – Just Ice Crown. All of Arthus lore quests, the two sides gathering with the Argents to hit Ice Crown. Ending with 5 man version of Lich King fight
21-30 – Cataclysm – both sides – Twilight Highlands, then Hyjal, ending in End Times
31-37 – Pandaria – Jade Forest to Vale
38-45 – Legion (Yes… I skipped Warlords, but then so did the narrative. It is a side story and SHOULD have set up BfA on alternate Azeroth. They did not, so… skip)
46-50 – Horde STAYS ON ZANDALAR – Bring Zandalari and Vulpera in and call it a day;
Alliance stays on Kil Tiras, brings the Kul Tirans into Alliance, pretty much just Tiragarde and Stormsong
51 – Shadowlands… if we must. It would be nice if they just let ALL quests scale up so you can go revisit whatever story and level that way. Like with alts. How fun would it be to 1-max by seeing ALL THE NEW CHAINS in Cata?
As for Shadowlands, I REALLY think they need to lean into the nonsense storyline as temporal corruption and do full alternate timelines expansion… as hinted in whatever book that was where Garrosh was freed by deus ex dragon Wrathion
It's funny that he rolled Alliance because I think the Horde BFA experience is way more newcomer friendly just because the story is not linked to any pre established character like Jaina, the only pre-established thing is the Zandalari empire but as a newcomer you can just take it as "big Inca empire" and it doesn't change much.
After watching this, I realize that, the way the game is designed at the moment, requires for new players to go and play all the way back from warcraft orcs and humans, or at least reing of chaos and frozen throne to ge a grasp of the lore and feel the RP aspect of the game… Wich is sad 'cause no one, or at least I believe so, no one is willing to make that journey through all the franchise just to be able to enjoy WoW
"The game encourages you to the end of the game" – i argued with my friend about this for years and he always answered that the game began at end game (grinds, mythic+, ilevels, BiS etc..). I told him that i dont get it we have an ENTIRE WORLD, 2 opposing factions with plenty of races and subfactions within those, we have 6+ expansions and you are telling i am MEANT to skip all of that asap so that i can get to the end game of the CURRENT expansion – Yes he would answer.
WHAT A WASTE.
Well if i would have designed "Chromie Time" I would had made it a seperate game system entierly.
Once you were done on that new starting Island, Chromie would meet up with you and ask if you want to "re-live history" with him or if you wanted to choose a starting expansion(current system). If you choose to start questing in a expansion, you would simply just go there and play normally(might be pref. for old players).
However if you pick the other option the player will instead go on a more scripted adventure with Chromie(It would also be aviable by speaking too her even at max level). During this adventure the player and Chromie would investigate some of the most significant lore-events from Vanilla -> Shadowlands. Chromie would work as your narrator and primary quest NPC trough the whole experience. You could say this would be quite similar to the "Deaths of Chromie scenario", but way more in-depth:
– There would be quests.
– There would be dungeon events.
– Raid bosses would make their apperance, even if you fight them with the help of NPC's.
– This Scenario would make you level up to the start of Shadowlands all on It's own.
The absolute main feature however would be that this Chromie adventure would establish the whole "canon story/timeline", within a reasonable time frame. This would make it interesting both as a leveling experience and work as more content for old players. The mode would be episodic, so you could replay and revisit it as much as you like… perhaps some secret stuff could be stuffed in there to make people return to look for those. Not to mention, by making it "episodes" blizzard could add more episodes as the story progress, so in 10.0 there would be episodes retelling Shadowlands in a similar fashion.
There would also be entierly new events that used to be exclusive to the books. Just imagine having a system in game where the devs could add scenarios taken out of any of the books written and add them into the game as either scenarios or re-told stories. For example; Garrosh trial from warcrimes and have it be retold as a quicker(less detailed) event, placed at the correct timestamp in the list of events. Ofcourse any significant event of choice could be added even stuff from way before WC3(Chronicle stuff), giving players a way to properly get into the story/lore without revamping anything in the established world.
Sylvanas became unlikeable in BFA, but we excused her because we believed there were ulterior motives and a hidden more important agenda that actually justified her villainy somewhat – except in Shadowlands we have been given more villainy, no unravelling of her 4d chess moves and more importantly the contradictory cringe-worthy "I will never serve" packaged with a Blizz tease that a book about Sylvanas (which has been delayed twice already) is going to sort it out. Fuck Right Off Blizz.
Make vanilla and each expansion capped at 10 levels and do not allow progression until the previous expansion's main quest line is complete. Seems simple enough.
32:20 i found her unlikable in a good way until pandaria and i founder unlikable in the worst possible way in the universe since legion! atrocius writing, way to obvious stive denuser SIMPING, with everythihng now linked to the jailer she becomes important since legion, way too important than the history cant progress without her and like in the simpsons "every time she is not in the scene every character must ask "were is sylvanas?"" FFS!
About randomly entering Dungeons because not knowing what they are.
Honestly, just add a title and/or description to the loadingscreen.
Each Dungeon already have its own loadingscreen, just overlay a bit of text saying "Heroic Dungeon: Freehold" or whatever difficulty you are have it set to. Don't put it on the Loadingscreen image, just put it as overlay like they do their random tips when loading in to the world. When going in solo, maybe add that this is intended as 5-man content. For people going back to solo for transmogs they can just ignore that but a new player will read and see that maybe going in alone when game recommends a full 5-man group might be a bad idea.
There have been times where I'm not even sure what difficulty the dungeon is when I enter! Been going for M+ and run in, prepare with food and flask, then realize there is no Font for us to put the Keystone in because the dungeon is set to Heroic..
I cannot even tell the difficulty setting from looking at the Raid Portal the same way I could a few expansions ago!
It used to be Heroic Raids had that big skull in the middle of the portal. When 10/25 man raids was a thing the 10man raid had 3 rings rotating on the portal while 25man had 5 (6?) rings. You could see before going in by looking at the Portal. Honestly they can just re-use this. 3 rings is Normal raid, 5 rings is HC and the Skull is Mythic. Purple portal for Dungeon, green portal for Raid.
accolonn please can you explain what is "9.1 Undocumented Change Gutted Shadowlands Main Storyline" about ??
about the addons. im not against them per say, but if WoW wants to let us use them, and they like them, im not sure why they just arent implementing many of these features into the game themselves.
The walking into the dungeon thing, I think thats a dumb complaint, and if you didnt realize you walked into a dungeon, after you saw walked through the portal, saw the named area, saw the elites, idk thats kind of dumb.
But many of this guys complaints about the game are pretty spot on id say. Story, and questing are terrible not knowing whats happening.
I think the Shadowlands story would've been better told over the course of 2 expansions, the first one perhaps taking place either after Wrath or Pandaria. We could have the "first" Shadowlands expansion still have Zovaal as the arbiter, and over the course of the expansion, complete some questionable missions for him (maybe the answers to the forbidden questions alluded to by the Eternal Ones), only for the big reveal that we were played for fools and then "defeat" Zovaal and banish him to the Maw, only for us to be betrayed by Sylvanas after she fell under Zovaal's sway at some point.
Zovaal could reveal that he wanted to be sent to the Maw anyway so that he could build his army in secret, because let's face it, none of the Eternal Ones, save Denathrius, ever peeked in on the things happening within the Maw. Then you could enter the Shadowlands expansion proper, with all the relevent knowledge of the story behind the characters and their motivations so that people would have a reason to care about what's going on now.
Just a rough idea that could be refined a bit more, but I think something like this could have gone a long way towards making the players care about the characters and stories in this expansion, especially when Blizzard wanted Zovaal wanted to be the next Sargeras-level big bad. A villain that would cast an ever-looming shadow (pardon the pun) over the story. An ever-present threat, even when considered defeated, leaving players and characters (after the "first" Shadowlands) to question whether he had truly been defeated, or just locked away and biding his time, much like Sargeras. Just my 2 copper.
My FFXIV complaint is that we kill each Primal like 80 million times throughout the MSQ. It gets annoying afterwhile cuz the same enemies come up over and over every few levels and get a massive power upgrade. It's like the endless saga of Goku vs Vegeta
About WoW bosses that require Addons.
I'd say the "need" for addons isn't neccesarily only because of timers and RNG, but also to quickly assign people.
Say Mythic Stone Legion Generals in Castle Nathria, and the soaking of Eruptions. Having a WeakAura to list who goes to soak which pool, while at the same time keeping track of who already have the debuff, and automatically put the next person on the list. You have just a couple of seconds to sort it and if you don't start running immediately you will simply not reach the pool in time to soak, so trying to manually sort who goes where each time is almost impossible within the given time.
A similar thing for Fate Scribe, where having an addon assign a ring to the people who run runes instead of trying to do it manually.
Something as simple as Mechatorque with the big bombs you had to Line of Sight with. Having DBM put a marker over your head to show which pillar to hide behind to avoid everyone trying to hide at the same place made it a lot easier.
Without addons sorting things like that quickly, Blizzard would need to increase the timer on a lot of abilities to allow for players to sort it manually.
Heck, did loads of M+ in BfA with a person who had an addon that simply put markers on the mobs that could be interrupted. Not that they HAD to be interrupted, but that they could. Made it so much easier to say "I'm interrupting Square next" instead of "I'm interrupting the left-most Mender".
a big point that isn't addressed here (i'm not finished with the video yet) is that the game does not explain everything to new players, because WoW USED TO BE a game played TOGETHER.
When I started playing WoW, i did not know anything either. But I did know how to use the CHAT function. If Blizzard made the game more social, then new players would naturally seek and get help FROM OTHER PLAYERS. (the way the game was meant to be a looong time ago)
I do know her story, and I understand what she went through, so I was neutral towards her when I started playing. As of right now, killing her, burning her corpse, spreading the ashes on the sea and shattering her soul so she cannot reincarnate is all I want for her.
About designing the game from level 1, and not focus too much on End-game.
I do not disagree here. However, I wonder if that is what the playerbase want. We saw in Cataclysm when they revamped the whole 1-60 with a lot of posts on the forums about how pointless that was because everyone was already max level and so re-doing 1-60 would only be more annoyance for those leveling alts (since now they cannot just rush through it because they don't know the "best" route for questing and leveling) and the very few new players that would join the game.
Players wanted to make leveling faster and faster because they did not want to quest through a new zone to learn about the stories there, they wanted to get another max-level character so that they could do dungeons, raid or PvP. The playerbase was very vocal about this! So Blizzard listened to the players and made leveling faster. They reduced the exp needed to level up, they added heirlooms that gave bonus exp and had stats scale with level. This is how we ended up with the issue of new players doing the first zone of an expansion and then be ready to jump into the next expansion.
What is the solution? To make a fresh player go through all the expansions in order using some version of Chromie Time? Shadowlands is the 9th expansion. Assuming they want 50-60 be in SL they would have to balance leveling so that a player gained 6 levels per expansion! That's roughly one level per finished zone (assuming no Exile's Reach and instead starting lvl1 in the world). That would NOT feel very rewarding.
Not to mention that leveling and questing is basically just setting up the story. There are no conclusions to any story. All these stories develop during patches and culminate during raids. Kill KJ, get to see Sargeras stab the planet. Kill N'Zoth, see Ny'alotha crumble. Defeat Archimonde, see Gul'dan get flung through the portal. DeaDefeat the Lich King, see Arthas die in the hands of his Ghost-dad. Something as simple as the conclusion of the Blue Dragonflight re-routing all the Leylines in Dragonblight during WotLK was resolved in a raid (by us killing Malygos). So even if you force a player to fully quest through all the zones in every expansion, they will still miss a lot of the story development and conclusions by not doing the raids or Patch-quests.
EDIT1: This also shines a light on how stories were started back in WC3 and WC2. Who is Kael'thas? Who is Arthas? Why is Stratholme a thing? Why is Uther pissed at Arthas? What is the Lich king? That was all in Warcraft 3. Sure, Caverns of Time has the Stratholme dungeon recapping the iconic event where Uther and Jaina turn their back on Arthas, but to get the full story you need to play WC3.
EDIT2: Taliesin had a thought ages ago where a new player would quest through each zone, but then when done with all in it the new player would get a pre-rendered cinematic of players going in to the raids and killing bosses while a voice adds an exposition dump about what happened there, explaining what happened and how the raid ended. Sure, it is not as fun or engaging as playing the raids yourself, but compared to completly missing out on the whole reason there's a sword in Silithus (a new player would not have seen the Cinematic after defeating Antorus).
I guess you could argue that Blizz have added NPCs with options to "show me what led up to this" which will play cinematics that will hopefully give players an explanation, but just seeing a big fiery dude stab the planet with a sword will not be very epic if you have no idea that the guy is Sargeras and the whole backstory of the Titans and his fall from grace.
Acco I shall never give too fucks about sylvie just get over it the man has a fuckin point about sylvie
FFXIV has an in game feature called New Game+ which allows players to replay all the quests (MSQ, sidequest, job quest, role quest) from the previous expansions. This help players who boosted/bought story skips and decide to go back and try the MSQ for a change. It also gives us a chace to relive those stories/moments again and break our hearts all over again.
Dude would have been way happier playing classic. Retail is trash.
I think he would have had a much better time playing something like classic or SOM. Classic does a much better job establishing the world while introducing new mechanics and abilities as you level.
Retail leveling needs to be slowed WAY down and they need to implement the immersion add-on into the base game. You should be MADE to level through the entire main storyline of EACH expansion as a new player. If the game lets you skip the story, even if its a bad story, the game makes no sense.
Also WOW looks amazing compared to FF14. It has a unique art style that you wont find anywhere else. FF14 has a style that is forgettable.
Yea I’ve been saying for years now new players should not be allowed to skip all the past expansions. Also they should have a lvl cap on the character boost token so once you reach max lvl then the token becomes available if you want to purchase it
When I restarted the game I started in SIlvermoon at level 1 and went through every single quest in every zone in every single expansion, even when I had capped XP, I'd stay in that expansion until I'd seen every instance, done every quest and completed every system (eg Garrisons, Suramar, Legion Halls). All the way through Vanilla, BC, WOTLK, etc etc through BFA and SL.
I read EVERY single piece of quest text in the entire game (minus class specific), never skipped anything, read all the usable books I found in every dungeon and ruin. I still have almost no idea of what's going on.
