FFXIV Player Housing New Player First Impressions.
I’ve played WoW for over 15 years but given the state of WoW right now and the lack of content, some of my friends have convinced me to try FFXIV. So I wanted to document my FFXIV first impressions, document my journey through Final Fantasy 14 and give my feedback along the way.
Throughout I will be comparing FFXIV to WoW and references the differences between the two. Obviously, I do have some bias, but I will try and keep an open mind all the way.
This is part 17 of the series and there are a lot of spoilers here so please be warned. Was so nice decorating the new house, insane fishing event and making some real progress on the FFXIV MSQ.
Also if you have any tips for new players in FFXIV please let me as I’m probably making a lot of mistakes. I have made some progress on the FFXIV MSQ but there are just so many distractions!

Ixal has more reputation steps than the others. May want to make it the priority.
Also once you finish all beast tribes for a given expansion, you unlock the "allied" quest line which involves all factions from that expansion.
Look for a side quest in fisher guild called feast of famine. You haven't even scratched the surface of fishing!
I totally messed up my first attempt to color my chocobo too! Those systems are sneakily difficult! The nice thing is, you should be pretty close to the right color, so it'll probably only take a couple of fruits to course-correct. I finally hit the color I wanted (Morbol Green) on my third try.
you can still get your chocobo to black, google Chocobo color calculator and it will take you to a site where you put in your current color and then put the color you want and it will tell you whats left to feed to get to that color

(edit2) be sure to look at the bottom where it says "view feeding order" so you can feed in the best order to not move to an alternate color xD (due to maxing a scale on one of the RGB scales)
The Sahagins were the first beast tribe I finished (I really wanted the mount they give) and I remember loving the story so so so much….. I still hold them dearly in my heart ;;;
Blue. Tell me about it XD I needed three or four tries till my lavender chocobo finaly got his pitchblack feathers 😀 There is a webside where the fruits for different colors are listed and they are accurate… just not 100%. Even if you follow their instructions to the letter, the result can still vary – so dont worry, you probably didnt do anything wrong 🙂 At least you didnt need to buy or grow those fruits yourself: they are super expensive (at least on my server) 😀
God I had the same colour problem with my chocobo hahaha, wanted to make it dark red or dark green and it ended up dark blue (I kept it as is for the memory hahaha)

Since you hit heavensward, did you already see the cutscene "flames of truth" in the coils (ARR coil raids)?
Best tribes are mostly for crafting materials and mounts in the earlier xpacs. Also for great questlines that give a bit of sense to the dailies

The Ixal are good for levelling crafters while building up reputation, that's all there is to it, just craft whatever they want from you 🙂 Imo they're the easiest and fastest to level
Once you max out reputation with each beast tribe you can buy a new mount from them also the Ixal(icks-all) they are the crafter tribe there is a crafter tribe in each expansion so it makes leveling crafters easier

Find out how to unlock Feast Of Famine at Limsa, it’s the Legendary Fishing Quest unlocked at 50, you’re not done yet 🙂
You didn't necessarily mess up the chocobo feeding, it's not an exact science. I took several tries to get mine to black, and am pretty sure I followed the instructions exactly!
I actually really love the dark blue chocobo! He reminds me of my pet pigeon who's black but iridescent green/blue!
If it's any consolation, changing the color of your chocobo to an extreme does seem a bit wonky – or at least, the feeding order generated by the guide might be off. I recently aimed for midnight blue and got purple.
"Can you make me a combustion engine?" – Quest NPC
"Sure!" – Pulls out frying pan.
"Do you know what you're doing?" – Quest NPC
When you do the Extreme trials, keep an eye out for whistles!! Those are mounts you can get, and if you get all of them from the EX trials, you can get a super cool mount!
