FFXIV Patch 7.1, Lore Reaction

As a long time Final Fantasy 11 fan this is going to be huge for me! I’m not only curious to see how the weave this game’s lore into the fabric of FFXIV’s story but how we’re going to see the progression of events beyond base Dawntrail. So lets discuss that together shall we?

  1. I’m sure they will make sure that Wuk Lamat on the side line for now. They can bring her more justice without been her on the spot light. And giving other the chance to shine. I mean look at Lyse during the post MSQ. She was on the side line and add others to get their chance to shine. Wuk Lamat can do the same.

  2. I'm gonna have to dissent and say the only thing I want more than "more Wuk Lamat" is "LOTS more Wuk Lamat." Not that the story should necessarily be about her the way it was in the top half of Dawntrail was, but in that she's a fun and engaging character and I like having her around. "What if Lyse was combined with Moenbryda, and then had cat ears?"

  3. Im conflicted cause I see what you mean with Wuk Lamat but also I dont want a repeat of what happened to Lyse happen agin; Immediatly just abandon NPCs just cause they didnt make a gigantic splash day 1. It makes the world seem even smaller when they do that.

  4. You really hit the nail on the head with everything being earned in FFXI vs pretty much handed to you in XIV. I miss that dearly. Really hoping for an XI remake now!

  5. I think the end/ultimate preview with Shiva Ryne with the glyph is Mitron taking over her body. Probably a hypothetical "what if Mitron had succeeded" scenario from our sadistic minstrel.

I wonder if the crystal cylinder under the Sphene memorial is supposed to be her sacrophagus? Her real crown has to be around there somewhere…

Regarding Wuk Lamat, I doubt 7.1 had even the slightest chance to benefit from feedback. We likely won't see any ripples until 7.3 at the earliest. Chances are she's still around and largely relevant until the official Dawntrail credits in 7.3.

  6. Wasn't Zoralja's whole deal that a civilization can not know happiness without suffering? So did we accidentally carry out his will by making the Alexandrians face death?

  7. I think Wuk's presence makes sense, she was the effective MC of dawntrail and it'd be a bit weird if she just disappeared, especially since she was one of two people who was there when Sphene died. I would expect her to have a fairly significant presence in this patch, but as we transition away from Dawntrail and into whatever the future is (whether that be Meracydia or another reflection), she'll play less and less of a vital part as she is needed in Tural whilst we move away from it.

  8. My theory is that if the Shadowlord can't die, He will be the final boss of the first two 24-man raids, a boss in the third, but will be replaced by something else as the final boss of the final raid.

  9. I will admit after several unpleasant experiences post-expac release and general burnout (partly due to frustration with how they were handling the story) I had resolved to an indefinite hiatus from FFXIV but that lovingly rendered high definition Jeuno is getting me right in the heartstrings.

  10. Guys I'm really hoping that the big bad corporation behind the Sphene tech — i forget it's name, it was the one that wanted Krile's parents dead — is basically ff14's version of Shinra.

Edit: YES we're supposed to get zoraal ja's story here, but I agree it does feel late. Even if we got just a snippet of an echo flashback to his motivations! we needed MORE ECHO!

DOES ANYONE GET KINGDOM HEARTS MUSIC FROM LESBIAN ULTIMATE?

  11. They don't just purge grief… remember that "memory" is part of the three-fold aether of a person. One way to enhance the amount of aether you could get from the cleansing process is to gather residual emotional memory from those associated with the person. You take their memories to enhance the amount of aether. It wasn't just twisted altruism. It was also greed. Which really is a theme for this expac. What does greed do to a person? How can it be masked by good intentions?

  12. I had to watch the trailer on loop like 20 times; THE SHADOW LORD, my perfect husband who did nothing wrong, we will meet again Soon™ ! It all looks so good, makes me sad 1.0 failed so hard; i love it's UI sounds, too. I'm more excited about Echoes of Vana'diel than almost anything else that's been in this game before lol. I cannot wait. Also, considering it looks like we're fighting the Ark Angels as well (which shocked me!!!); I feel like Shadow Lord is going to be a mid-boss and theyre going to the Final Boss? (Although I guess we could still Eal'dnarche or something….)

Actually, talking about this trailer in FFXI with my LS got them to help me finally clear the quest Divine Might, so….glad for that ^_^.

  13. Since they haven't known death, I wonder if there will be direct parallels made in game to the ancients. There were lots of moments in the story where I was like 'can someone please say that this is like…' (the various things that it was like)

  14. Naoshi Mizuta is my favorite composer. I'm so happy to get a bit more FF11 soundtracks here. (Maybe he even does some of his crazy EDM tracks)
So far only Lima's Aftcastle has a track that was composed by him. And you can really hear his style in that track!

  15. If You Don't Like: You Should Try:
    Wuk Lamat A G A I N
    – FFXIV Dev Team saying they're doubling down on Wuk Lamat cos she is awesome (correct judgement tbh)

Not liking Wuk Lamat is 100% a skill issue.

  16. My patience finally snapped as soon as galool ja and his robot appeared on screen in the MSQ and it became apparent we'd be embarking upon another unavailing sideplot – so I've skipped every cut scene he was in 😅 . Wake me up when we get to 7.3 I guess.

  17. All I have to say is that the new raid had better at least be fun, because while I have never played FFXI, I have watched friends play it on stream & it seems to be one of those old-school "treat it more like a second job than a game about as entertaining as watching paint dry" MMOs that don't appeal to me whatsoever, and that impression for me was only reinforced by them trying to enforce FFXI leveling & combat mechanics in Eureka (ask me why I have never set foot in Eureka after getting both the Eureka weapons for my main two classes near the end of Stormblood)…

  18. Scorpion Harness was perhaps one of the best Melee DPS gear you could get late-game due to the high Accuracy boost it gave (Yes back then it was a big thing to get an ACC boost.) The problem is that you needed a high-ranked Bonecrafter with decent leather working to craft it and a rare drop from certain high-level Notorious Monsters (Rare spawns). Nowadays getting a harness is nothing due to how easy it is to get the claws and reach the rank, but it was an ordeal to get one back then.
